  1. Also if i didnt stop summer - when the hell would i fish?
  2. One thing - you might want to give a wee bit of info on you and why you want/need to be taken out by someone else on their land? Not a dig. Jai.
  3. And even when its needed i still dont enjoy cutting kits out of pregnant rabbits or digging down to kill nests of kits. Sorry if that doesnt make me a 'proper ferreter'. I feel i answered the question posed by the o.p, rather than answering the question 'why do people ferret in summer' or 'why is summer rabbit control needed'. Neither of which questions were asked on this thread. And to be honest most of the farmers / estate owners whose land we work on are happy for us to stop most of the ferreting over summer and just stick to snares/guns/dogs to control the population, and we dont
  4. try telling any landowner your not going to control rabbits in summer, as it spoils nexts years sport, and you could well find someone else with permission, rabbits are pests, and the time they really need controlling, some totally stop, whether its ferreting, hawking, lamping, trapping etc, it still goes on, you still going to be culling pregnant or milky does remember, your sport is someones livleyhood Yes Stubby - cos this guy is obviously doing pest control with the hawk. Is doing rabbit pest control some kind of badge of pride? Yes i ferret it summer when needs be but it isnt
  5. Your inbox is full. Empty it. Jai.
  6. Depends on a lot. Firstly if its broken to ferrets or not! Also if it can mark? If not i suppose it would be handy for bushing rabs and pushing them to ground, and then could be put on lead when ferret is out/down. I dont like taking unsteady dogs tho, they just get in the way. Jai.
  7. The Warrener is a nasty little man who is just out to make money. END OF! I remember him selling 'special warrener made' catapults for like 100 quid and his arrogant dvds, hes just a fat shit. BUUUUUUUT - havnt heard anything from the o.p about that pup? Would like to hear more as my mate is looking at a pup that i thinks either same pup or litter mate. Jai.
  8. Brilliant - it's great when things turn out well for a dog. I know it aint flint mate, and wont ever replace him, but i'm glad he came a long for you! jai.
  9. Usually give them a break, they get worked very hard during the winter months. Summer time they rest, relax and play. Some of them raise kits. They do get a bit of summertime pest control, but i try to avoid it as its just a hassle and the dogs/guns are more suited. atb Jai.
  10. Yep - just as its retarded some of the folk they let loose with guns, who couldnt hit a barndoor. There are plenty of animals wounded and left to die slow. But thats ok cos its dogs that are cruel isnt it. . . . IDIOTS! Jai.
  11. Yer it was definatly stolen. I think the dog was borrowed by someone to bring on a pup and then disappeared and re appeared with Warrener, who promptly denied any knowledge and then got agressive. I'll ask the lad for the full story later. How old is that pup - a mate of mine got offered one of similar breeding also clamied to be from that black bitch. atb Jai.
  12. My mate deep fries the wee ones!
  13. O yer and like was said above - i'd be wary that they were mink holes by the river!!!!
  14. I wouldnt do it. How would you feel if you dropped the jill in and she came back up with only one eye? A pregnant doe or one defending a nest will rip the hell out of even the toughest ferret. They can also get Wells disease, which you will be at risk from when handling ferrets, moving about holes etc. If your wanting somewhere more open you could try hay barns? But this is the EXACT reason smokers were invented, to save ferret blood! Jai.
  15. You CAN ferret all year around, there is no official season and some people do ferret in summer for pest control (even though its not a very efficient method this time of year), however as they rabs are breeding in summer the does become terretorial and the nests full of young. This leads to rabbits that dont want to bolt and lots of digs to a ferret thats munching on kits. Also most of us find it distasteful to be killing heavily pregnant or milky does. Besides it ruins next years sport. END OF! Can we leave this now? Jai.
  16. Plenty about matey. Was out month or so ago and had a 4-6 week old bolt through the net. Terrier made short work of it sadly. Seen plenty young uns out feeding and a girl in school (where i work) found one over the weekend she now has as a pet. Jai.
  17. Cheers guys, i dont know much about air pistols, so thanks for all the info! I think i may well give it a miss tho after what you've said. I already shoot air rifles and shotguns so it's a bit unnecessary. I'll stick to the catty for the roosters, i think its more powerful anyway. However i suppose i might still get an air pistol at some point to shoot cans in the backyard. What kind of range can you get and what would be a cheapish one? Cheers, Jai.
  18. Any of Dan or Docs staghounds. A certain beddy x i saw recently. Those Malamute x's. Jai.
  19. I'd be interested, depending on the sire. Putting a Sal/whippet x over her might be interesting. Keep us posted anyway. Cheers, Jai.
