very true mate ive had many enjoyable mornings out rough shooting my fathers boss organises about 3 or 4 half days during the season for the beaters Yer its a pleasure - i try and get out for at least a couple of hours a day 7 days a week, there's always something that needs shooting and it's good exercise for the dogs. This week it's been squirrel duty and i've knocked down 28 greys with the .410 along with assorted other game and vermin.

What Chalky said. But i'll add rough shooting over a spaniel . . . . just for fun.

thats a fair point mate but if 1 in 10 turns out good then perhaps that person may also once he has gained experience also see a 1 in 10 who may also keep up our traditions every little helps as they say the insurance issue is just because we live in a funny old world now with claims been put in for every thing, Fair enough but if you follow that logic there are also going to be 9 more c*nts ferreting. It's a difficult one - we all want to preserve our ways and sport for the future and so wish to ensure new folk try it out etc etc but also there is the blatant fact that popularity cr

You want hanging pal, or atleast move out of england. just because i dont like football? sorry but i prefer to take part an watch a proper sport, not a bucnh of over paid ffanny boys mincing about, pissing and moaning everytime they get a knock frome one of the other fanny boys runing around. get them in a boxing ring, now that would be worth watching Brilliant idea 15 aside cage fight. I can hear the crys now 'Not the face . . . . not the face!, i'm too pretty to fight'. Footballs dull.

haha, typical to someone who flys a "union jack" on his profile, the shitest flag in the world... Aye, but he wins the prize for getting it right! Jai.

You right mate. Was just out walking the 3 1/2 month old pup and met a guy who thought he was full grown, many people do- and to be fair he's not far off one of these show pony whippets already. The laguna whippets, if well bred and conditioned are more akin to a grew - 20+ tts, will go through a brick wall for their quarry and will take all quarry (pre ban).

Whats 20 quid in the grand scheme of things to get one of the little stinkers outta their wee hutch and onto some bunny bashing.

Thing is the question was not - which cross is better or worse but just which is preferred. I voted bull x - not because i dont like them, but because i like them less for myself and what i do than the other x's. However i would always go for the quality of dog not the cross. People get so caught up with which x is best, which x is best all rounder, which x should i put over my bitch - and the answer should always be the best animal you can get your hands on for doing the job you want. - regardless of x

Touchy! It's called an opinion.

It's probably because your mums dog hasn't got the same bulk of conditioned muscle as a working whippet does. I'd have thought a conditioned working whippet would be more efficient at keeping itself warm due to having more mass and a stronger cardiovascular system. i would agree with that i have got 2 whippets one is 4 years old and has never worked more of a house pet the other is 17 months and starting to work when i take them both out the older one shivers like mad and the other one is so keen to work the weather dont seem to bother her hope this helps. The whippet in ques

Aye fire on. Have you though of snares tho - cheap, easy to use and effective.
-
You can do it man but it's going to be 300 acres of hell and pretty much not worth the hassle. If you have to do it you have to do it, but you have to expect to be fighting yourself through heavy undergrowth and digging lots of holes. Have fun!

Odd report. Liked the blokes two dogs mind, nice looking and well trained. Its difficult as well because although the majority carry out their sport discretley and as humanly as possible, there are always (and especially these days) going to be a few chumps that mess it up for the rest of us through being scum.

Yep thats what the current gun is - and it appears to be in mint condition. It only jams sometimes and takes a couple of tries to break, but the gun i just replaced was an older model which had started to do this a lot and then one day after firing both barrels it became completely impossible to open. I have been using 3 inch shells and the guns get a lot of use most days. I'll check out the other suggestions and see if they sort it, cheers guys. yis Jai.

I was just wondering if anyone else on here owns/uses a Spanish made, s/s .410 hammer gun, long shot i know but i had one for a long time and recently it began to jam when the shots had been fired - i.e - i could not fully break the barrel to remove the (fired) shells. I have replaced this gun with a similar but newer model and have found it to be going a similar way? Is this just me? A common problem? Any ideas? atb Jai.

Private land needed for rabbit shooting/control
Ideation replied to ljkenny's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Your not going to find any on here, it is a site full of people who hunt and do pest control for money/enjoyment. If they know a landowner with lots of land and rabbits to get rid of then THEY probably do the rabbit control. Best bet is thinking of any links you might already have and working on those and if not then getting out there and knocking on doors, sending letters etc Also you could try getting involved in something countrysidey - i.e - beating, farm work etc etc etc Goodluck! Jai. -
That mate, is a good dog. I take my hat off to you Whin.

Ask Whin - he's a big fan.
