  1. It was Maesteg, and they were in there to get themselves some pork lol. Killed a half dozen, and loaded them in the van and the rest broke out through a badly shut gate. The lads responsible were busted with the dead pigs in the back of a van. Hopefullly they will get up into the forestry and prosper lol. On the subject of wild boar, a friend of dads was round earlier, he had a 556 lb boar local to us. That's a big animal, think when hung off the telehandler, from the floor up in measured 14 foot. It would have upset a few bull x's I think.
  2. Been doing a few other bits and bobs! Burnt some stuff Got some posts for the barn Cheers mate, you know who your are Cleared a space for a goose run, started digging the trench to sink the wire, and made a house out of some reclaimed wood and tin sheeting. And found this . . . . And got the mrs a wee present for grafting so hard recently Oh yes and some b*****d reported me and my water got cut off . . . . .
  3. I worked in a school, in a tough areas, as a youth worker / councillor / advocate etc. Worked, past tense. I quit a couple of months back because I just got fed up of the gangster culture, the final straw being three kids telling me they were going to stab, and rape me etc. I wanted to cave their skulls in, and thought that perhaps a change of career might be on the cards before I got in big trouble. I don't know what or why, but something has changed, or is changing. I only started the job 5 years ago, and the levels of this kind of gangster, rude boy shit, where they think t

Sick, just pure sick. They are absolute scum in every conceivable way. And they know nothing about animals. Something HAS to be done about them.
  5. I don't mind a bit of company from a decent mate. But the dog hates lamping with other people and dogs. So i usually go a lone.
  6. Wait is 18 gauge about 1mm thick? lol.
  7. Cool, it's on a hard standing, so digging under not so much of a problem. Was just hoping I could get away with the stuff on the rolls, but the best I'm looking at there is 1.6 mm. Any one know where to get cheap weld mesh panels from? Anything from 13-25 mm lol ?
  8. Ok, so I was wondering what gauge wire mesh is fox proof? Looking to build some poultry pens, and won't have leccy round these. Some will be using heras panels. But for some smaller bantam runs I was wanting to use some kind of weld mesh. Now i've seen various gauges and the cheaper stuff is on rolls, the more expensive comes in panels. So how thick is too thick for charly?
  9. Wherever you can mate, although i'm not sure some dogs are as easy as others. All of mine will give stuff up happily, apart from when lamping with the whippet, he now has to kill at least the first half dozen rabbits, and tends to be clamped to them pretty hard, although with a stern word he'll drop it. He's just made it his mission to crush the life out of what he catches. After a few catches though, he calms down a bit and i can have them back live. But I don't care, as they all go for bop food. Oh sorry, he brings them back. . . . unless there is another dog or person there, then h
  10. Yer, after I wrote it. . . . .I realised it was a bit sparse on info! It's just repetition. I did it with the mrs old terrier. . . . dog has something in mouth, you take it off the dog, use slightly dominating voice, if it wont give it up, and when you get it off the dog, place it next to you on the ground, give the dog a treat or something, if it goes back to touch the rabbit - you give it a growl, and a command again etc. Just repetition and patience, and the dog knowing that ultimately that rabbit belongs to YOU.
  11. Teach it the dead / leave command.
  12. Depends on a few things - The Woods. The Deer. The Dogs. It sounds dumb, but all woods are different, depends on the type, how they are planted etc and the general landscape, just how dangerous they are to run. Also some dogs have the knack of catching in woodland. And some deer have the knack of not being caught. Having said all of that, its probably one (well was anyway) of my favourite sports, you might not catch so many but you get some great hunts and runs! And as dan said, a dog growing up doing it will suss it out. Just when it goes wrong. . . . it go
  13. Yer I need to sell more, I'm just crap at that side of things, so I've put the mrs in charge of it. Not 100% sure on weights, it varies with breeds, but around 65 kilos, or around there.
  14. Aye our first lot were old spots, bit fatty like you say but nice dark meat. Best I've had were saddleback x white, good carcass size, nice taste not too much fat and still docile. I'm hoping to put the saddle back in sow to a pie train which is a double muscled Belgium breed. Hopefully produce some good pigs for meat. That's the plan anyway! Usually I put metal slaughter tags in their ears. They go at about six months. I've got some going June, July and August this year. Mostly as half pigs and sausages for sale privately and to the local pub.
  15. No, because the Koreans eating dogs does nothing whatsoever to the rest of the worlds bio systems. It doesn't make any difference to anyone, so its up to them if they want to eat them
  16. Aye, some traditions are grand, and some are highly questionable, and that goes for most countries.
  17. Come on guys . . . . Now I fully understand the mantra . . . if we kept our noses out of everyones business then the world would be a better place. But that just doesn't wash. Unfortunatly we have a habit of picking the wrong things to interfere with, but some stuff is just shit. I don't have an issue with most odd traditions, but the simple fact is, some folk need to wise up to the fact that we now know more about the world we live in, and how things affect each other. So when the maltese blat any birds coming over in their droves, among them are lots of pretty ecologically im
  18. Aye, it's going ok Had a fair fire yesterday and burnt a lot of the scrap wood we pulled out of the rubbish before we buried it, a few doors etc lol. JB is a grand help, you can't beat the experience of age Hopefully when this rain stops again, we can crack on with the barn. Also waiting on two more pigs going off to new homes on the weekend, and then there will be a couple more coming in. Plans for this week also include building a run for some geese, grassing a banking and more fencing (surprise surprise). The mrs has also spotted a good 'treehouse tree' so wants me to c
  19. Yer, it was in my mind matey Luckily i've had a chance to get well versed in local planning shit, as a mate recently built a huge timber framed barn in his 43 acre woodland. . . . after a marathon planning battle. . . . .
  20. Yes, I have enquired (through a third party) and apparently as it's a pole barn and has no permanent foundations, it is classed as a temporary structure. Also, as JB said, because it's being put on the same footprint as an old barn that we just demolished, and being built more sympathetically . . . . . in the worlds of the planners - we're all good!
  21. Zerky - Very, but it was warm, it was a tree and the mrs was there 1960's bin man . . . .
  22. Aye, its amazing what can be achieved with the right kit! Keepdiggin - To be honest mate, I don't really have the inclination to bother the rabbits there, it's only a small place, and i've got the ferreting all around it for a few miles, so I think they can have my bit to breed on, and hopefully spread out into the surrounding warrens To be fair, I like watching them messing about in the sun.
  23. Yer we're motoring a long now. . . . . R.A.W - Some of it's rubbish, some is treasure lol. Claude - Yes I am mate, not a bad idea I've just been lucky, falling on a small piece of ground no one really knew was there, for a real good price.
