  1. f**k me. . . . if that's true it's just plain wrong on every level. It's indefensible to I don't know why folk are trying to defend it.
  2. I'm gluten intolerant, so when I get my sausages done, there is no rusk, just a very very small amount of gluten free bread crumb. Hence why I choose a more traditional breed such as Saddleback, as the higher fat content helps to bind them. They only other additions are the off bit of spice or whatever. That price sounds about right about 4.50 a kilo, something like that. But the things is, i'd end up with a hundred kilos or so of sausages, which would have to be mostly frozen and sold frozen, rather than fresh (unless I had a long waiting list for slaughter day), and I'm not s
  3. I work it out as even if the carcass comes back light for some reason, i.e a half is only 25 kilo, then it's 3.60 a kilo, which is cheaper than most places. If they come back at 30 kilo as expected, then you are looking at 3 quid a kilo, which is good in anyones book, when you look at the price of free range pork in the shops, or even online as meat boxes. Put it this way, it's cheaper than most others in the area. I tend to have largely two sorts, the traditional breeds, which give a fattier carcass and smaller chops, but I personally believe a better (richer) taste and I like the
  4. I have various pigs going off to slaughter this summer, of a few different types, all free range, out door reared pigs who have a cracking life. Most of the pork is booked, but I have a couple of half pigs still spare, so thought i'd see if anyone was interested. I kill them out at about 70kg live weight, so after slaughtering you get back about 30 kg for a half pig. The standard half pig box is fore and back leg joints, chops, belly pork, some sausages etc. The price is £90 for a half. Pigs are getting slaughtered June, July (twice) and September this year
  5. No dilemma for me. I'd introduce a strict culling policy. Job done.
  6. Although the guy IS a knob. He isn't a million miles from the truth in a round about way. Ultimately whilst its very important to try to cure folk of cancer etc etc, we are all proper f****d, if our population keeps expanding at the rate it is, and folks life spans keep extending, and we cure more diseases etc. We really do need to look at the bigger picture, and do a few things for the good of every person, by taking care of our eco system. We live in a bubble, in a vacuum. . . . if we f**k it up, we're kind of limited on options.
  7. Well, FOD, I think you can say that they range as far as they need to. If you let them, they go on just like beagles. But with my bitch, I can work her close enough to be of use bushing out to the runners, and she will also go of doing some proper hounding if I let her, and covers some ground. JB and Rake - I'll pass on your request
  8. Stan - I'd not part with her for love nor money matey. Stig - Aye they are cute things, and real characters to be fair. Swede - I think the original (and existing) plan was to create a rough coated beagle, with a bit more prey drive (not hunting drive), a bit more of a desire to hunt to kill, rather than hunt for huntings sake, if that makes sense? And hence the Teckel, and terrier blood, and hey, a bit of spaniel can't hurt the tractability.
  9. Well, yes. . . .I know it's just numbers on paper, but as with this lot, I've been able to get an exact picture of what has been put into them dog by dog, since the start, it's interesting to see it on paper. I'd have though a dog that was even closer to a pure beagle on paper than my bitch, would be smoother coated, and well . . . . look more like a regular beagle. But instead, the pup Magic is closer again to what the man is aiming for. Rough coated beagles, with a bit of bite. My friend hunts within the limits of the law, obviously, but is no gun man. And yes, he is trying to breed a ty
  10. The sire is the black and tan dog in the above photo and the other hound bitch is his litter sister (same litter as my bitch in the above photos). You can see the 'type' they are breeding to.
  11. Well, yesterday I had another visit from the man with the hounds. I was knocking together a chicken run on my yard, grinding off some metal, when a soft voice came from behind me, extolling the wisdom of wearing safety goggles, and scaring the shit out of me in the process After a discussion on the finer points of health and safety, in came the pick up, and I was excited to see what was in the back. Down came the door, and along with nettle, the scruffy terrier, came and absolutely stunning little hound bitch. She couldn't be anything else, other than related to my bitch, and the
  12. Best show i've been to. Proper hunt show. Will be there again, hope the bbq will be on again?
  13. At the moment the eggs just go to me, family and friends, although if I could find a way of selling some, I would. The pork is mostly getting sold, i'm slaughtering about ten pigs this summer, and I'm keeping probably one or one and a half for me and my family, the rest is getting sold, a lot of it's already been booked. But yer, longer term, I'd like the livestock to look after themselves, maybe even turn a profit.
  14. I'd hate to think how many hours matey! And they are some real nice pigs, you must know a man who knows a man. . . . . or should I say woman.
  15. I think you mean legbar hybrid, I've got two and they lay blue eggs!
  16. The mrs is keen. . . . i'm not. Told her when we get a bigger place i'll let her get a pair for milking.
  17. Anyone ever kept them? I ended up with a pair of yellow goldens and a pair of lady amhersts today. Never kept them before, but figured that they can't be much different from regular pheasants.
  18. Yer, just hope no one gets mixed up when cooking
  19. To be fair when I get pigs done for myself, I just have some joints (fore legs and back legs) and just sausage everything else. But this winter i'm going to do a couple of bacon pigs and have a mess around with some bacon, gammon, hams etc. Maybe try a bit of smoking or something.
  20. High metabolism and hard work. Never been to a gym in my life.
