  1. Yer, true mate, shot them straight after. . . . useless fecking curs. Mind you, I had, just that morning read the hunting act to them, so they were keeping within the law. Wouldn't want any of my dogs touching one of those things, they might get hurt.
  2. AYe, she does look a lot like mine Dai, but looks the spitting double of my bitches dam. It's a crying shame your Caled is no longer with us. . . . he's have been the one for sure. I'll have to come see Spider run. . . . . but I have to admit. . . that wee bit of saluki scares me lol.
  3. Bout 25" tts and 26 kilo at last check, maybe taller and defiantly heavier now. Fast, but weighs like lead.
  4. The rabbit burying head case. Collie/whip/grey x Collie/Grey/Sal/Grey/Bull/Whip. On the topic of rabbit burying, I have made some ground in that department, although by no means sorted, last time out she had a good score of rabbits, the majority of which were live to hand. . . . she'll probably go back to being a knob next time. . . . but I know its fixable now. I will forever be eternally grateful to one member on here, who did me a fantastically good turn. He knows who he is.
  5. Aye mate, I remember your Caled. It's a long term plan this thing mate, the bitch is not much more than a pup, and who knows what will happen. . . . but to me, she is what I want from a dog so far. Finding her was a nightmare. . . . if I could find the right dog down the line, then I think I could produce the next dog for me, like her maybe, but with a few tweaks. . . . Just musing really. . . wouldn't mind seeing a few dogs, now, good dogs, and seeing if they are still as good in 3/4 years time. . . . when they are old dogs. . . . . Does that make any sense. Will be in Scotl
  6. Bout 3 years haha. . . . . that's sort of why I said 'line' rather than 'dog' initially. But who knows, if a dog is a good dog now. . . . and in three years, he's still just as good a dog. . ,. . . . . might be just what I want to use. Wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of dogs over next couple of seasons, to get an idea, if it is what I want. I'm a messer me lol. Some top looking dogs lads!
  7. Can I add something to this thread - I wouldn't mind seeing some photos, especially of the dogs already mentioned. The x works in my head, but I could do with seeing what the variables are, in size / stamp, if that makes sense?
  8. Thanks for the reply Trunk. That sounds like a very handy dog. KD - Sounds a very interesting mating. Snizle - The bitch that I may one day line has a drop of saluki, and its just about all of the saluki i can take. . . . never again P.S I have no interest in catching hares, but it's handy to know that a dog has pace and gears, whatever you are chasing, you need to get to it to catch it. And local to me, the rabbits are really tough to get on top of, can really make it hard work at times.
  9. Gnipper - Of course, had forgotten about dai. Do they not have some saluki in? Trunk - I've read the thread. I must say, a very accomplished fox dog. I've been impressed. How fast are they? Odd question, and i'm not knocking a fox in the lamp, but you know what I mean? What's their pace and stamina like, if you had them out all day running hard, big runs, long slips etc.
  10. I would say that's about right. In the places where there are a lot of large game species over seas, where legal to hunt them - i.e parts of Europe, Australia, NZ, USA etc, the areas hunted tend to be far larger, less densely populated by people, and are often made up of reletvily unmanaged woodland / forest / scrub / cover in large blocks. I think due to the cunning nature of the quarry, a dog that can find is very useful. In other places, i've seen folk (on you tube) running up to them in the open on a quad and dropping dogs on them . . . . in that case scenting ability isn't needed. In this
  11. It's been ages since i've really been on here. . . . so my memories are hazy. . . . . but i'm sure that there are a few folk on here, keeping the above type of dog. I am wondering if anyone out there, keeps, or knows of, a very good line of collie/bull/greys. . . . . Something fast, strong, good stamina, driven, biddable, good temp etc, good feet, good nose, good heart. . . . . no smaller than 25/26 " tts. Anyone? P.S Not looking for a pup, but may be looking for a lining one day and doing my home work.
  12. Seeing a rabbit jump straight over a dry stone wall and thinking. . . . . well . . . . you certainly deserved to live!
  13. Yes, my experience of it is that the pigs are usually easier to bring to bay once they have been tired out and have been chewed on a bit. If they think they can't run any more without getting grabbed at. . . . they bay up.
  14. Not the greatest pictures, but here's my collie, and the whip I might line her with one day. Both around 22" tts. Sorry for hijacking the thread. It was a good video, and just got me thinking!
  15. Funny you should mention. I said to Joe on another thread, if he wanted a lab lurcher he just needed to find a coursing dog to put over my bitch. Depending how she gets on with the boar in France, I've a two generation breeding plan to get some Aussie style running catch dogs. If I go down the lurcher route can I put you down for a pup? Lol. Put me down for one of those running catch dogs . . . . . France? There is a trip planned to France shortly. It is a recce to a boar park for later hunts. Yer I did get a text about that. . . . . replied. . . . and heard nowt!
  16. Got a pure collie bitch here. She is well bred, and here for the sheep work. I've done everything I can to keep her away from hunting, but she still does if there are no sheep around. . . . and is quite proficient. I'm very tempted in a few years to put my whippet over her, or possibly a larger grew.
  17. Funnily enough UG, I happen to have seen a Pat x Lab. Accidental mating I think, but hunted like feck, mainly boar, deer and fox. And was very very happy to get stuck into a boar or deer (the latter being a rarer opportunity for a small dog). Good news is it's a male. . . . . bad news is it has no nuts!

  19. UG - Or a real racy lurcher . . . . . .mainly sighthound.
  20. Willow - Yes I was and Yes, normally you are right. I modified the gear a bit, but she was just testing it out, to see what exactly she would do and if she needed it. Turns out she can probably get away without it.
  21. BH - That's pretty amazing. I've got quite a few from over the years. Always remember sitting on a stump having a smoke and seeing a mole come up and make a mole hill in front of me. First time I ever saw wild red deer in Scotland, picture postcard setting, mooching across the hillside in the highlands somewhere, camping with a girl in uni. Seeing a white fallow doe in my local woods, having that moment when the animal is totally unaware of you for a few moments, even though you are standing in plain sight. Daft one, but was out lamping a farm localish to me, slipped dog o
  22. Daughter of black and tan dog in second photo out of a hunt beagle.
