Thank you! She does look quite pretty i'll give her that. She hates the neighbours dog, cats, people or dogs approaching the car, any dog when she's on a lead, any dog that barks at her or me, any animal i show affection to, people who behave oddly, move fast, approach from the side or behind, anyone who goes near the mrs, cows, horses. . . . . . the list goes on. And she pretty much refuses to retrieve if there is another person or dog in the same field. She is also extremely protective over a kill. But she has plenty of bottle, and plenty of brains and catches stuff, so I can't compl

Had a walk out the other day, had the little rough coated hound Gwen, and the big guns out. We'd had a fairly eventful morning, seen a few bits of game here and there, had a wander and a natter. On the way back to the car we rounded the corner of the track and in the distance spotted something dart away into a big rough patch, a mass of fallen trees, brambles and some fern. We continued a long chatting, and as we drew level with the spot, Gwen perked up, nose down, tail wagging, meandering back and forth. We stopped and watched, as she slunk off slowly into the cover. As she disappeared from s

Aye, she's been worth persevering with. Can't fault the working ability at all, and she is an incredibly loyal and protective dog. The down side, is she is anti social, grumpy, over protective and can get quite angry lol. She's most certainly a one man dog.

Looking good! The dog you kept back is a stunner. Glad to see the old girl is still going strong to! I've seen some photos of the dog pup that went up to North Wales, and heard he is doing well. Will be heading up to go and have a run out with him sometime! Any idea how the rest of the litter are doing? Seems like you bred a good one matey

Cheers Wilf. Thanks for the kind comments. You can pick my brains anytime. . . . . anyone who knows me. . . . . . . knows that dogs and sheep are a pretty safe bet, if you want your ear talked off!

Cheers lads. It's a Garmin Astro, and she is lurcher x lurcher, with collie, bull and saluki in her.

I own just over 3 acres lol. After getting a few sheep realising it was what I fancied doing, and that I reckon I can make a go of it, I started asking about for land. Currently rent about 50 acres, with another 20 over winter, and getting offered bits of free land all of the time. I don't feed anything other than grass, lamb outside, try to interfere as little as possible etc. Run at varying stocking rates depending on grass. I.E I have one 5 acre field with 15 ewes with twin lambs on them, being moved this week though into another 5 acre field. Over winter they would be running at around 2 e

Sheep are addictive lol. Started not too long ago and at last count have about 120 running around, and another 60 of someone else's. Looking to increase the size a bit more dramatically this year One word of advice r.e sheep, you can make them really hard work, or you can make them work hard for you.

I've had a fair few issues with this bitch over her first year, all temperament related rather than working ability. Some i've managed to correct either fully or to some extent (with the help of some fantastic folk on here), and others I've just learnt to accept. She has had a fantastic first year, put some game away and really pleased me so far. And i'm even getting to quite like her miserable f***ing personality lol.

I keep sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens etc. They are very very cute when young, and in general a pleasure to be around. But I still eat them. It's just the cycle of life. It just is. It gets less and less of an issue as the numbers stack up. I.e, you rear 4 lambs, eating them is more of an issue than if you have 400. Mind you there are always a few I can't eat. Ive a pig here that I reared as a piglet on the bottle. Proper little character, the rest of the litter went for meat, but she'll stay. Same as the bottle lambs etc. And I can't eat the old ewes, unless the are a pain in the ar

My wee (part of the) bushing team, and a bit of the ground we work. They've made me very happy this year. Not the best photos, but gives you an idea. Never a dull walk. The hound is now limited edition. The last surviver from her litter. Need to find the right stud dog for her.

Recent Bow Hunt At Bos En Dal Safaris
Ideation replied to Bos en Dal Safaris's topic in Big Game Hunting
How much fieldcraft was really involved? I'm not saying it wasn't, but seen quite a few 'hunts', where basically the guy is just sat in a hide by a watering hole, waiting and then shooting from fairly short range. The quarry didn't seem that spooky either, and I guessed it was a hunting preserve with large numbers of reared animals that aren't hunted much? -
You seen a lot of them? Amazing how much folk talk about them on here, and a lot of the time I do wonder if they have ever actually seen / hunted them. . . . . Edited to add - If I didn't have a full kennels, and the litter turned out to be what was said, i'd seriously consider giving one a try. Do they have a decent voice? a lad I know hunts a lot more then you have ever done and he has used various breeds to hunt boar so I will pass what he says. Then baying dogs are not really what i'm in to tbh. Not a lad you know on the internet by any chance lol. I'm only messin

Any tips on the size of loop, will be setting them on runs under the fence. Have some on order, but need to do something tonight. It can't be shot or dogged very easily or it would have been.

Been trying desperately to get hold of some fox snares all day, but no luck, called every farm shop, country store, gun shop and hunting shop I can think of. . . . . . seems that snares are a dirty word! Now i've resorted to trying to make some, to be honest I have not got the right materials, just some galvanised, thin (probably about 1mm) garden wire, but it will have to do, as i'm unlikely to find owt else at 5pm on a Saturday. Now I need some help making them, no idea how big the loop should be? Only ever made rabbit snares. Need them out tonight, got to kill the b*****ds someh

Views On Shooting Foxes When Cubs Are About?
Ideation replied to slipper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
One thing, is that foxes often get blamed for badger kills. Both are as bad as each other. You are right though, they do pick up the sick and the weak. But they also DO take healthy lambs. It's obviously far worse if you lamb outside like me. A newborn lamb an hour old can't even run, so it stands no chance. Whereas one lambed in and turned out after a few days, stands a good chance! I never had much issue with foxes, I only killed them because I enjoyed the hunt. Now? If I had a chance to flatten one with the car, in my area. . . . I'd have a good go! Soon as something starts ta -
You just wait. . . . . .once the Mixy, VHD, Flooding, Airrifle lads, Rifle lads, summer hunters etc etc etc have their turn. . . . . . it'll be a shite as usual lol.
