  1. Been on here plenty but here's a few photos of my little 'rabbiting dog'. He's caught plenty of other things besides, but has done well on the rabbits up and down the country on all kinds of land. Mostly daytime, but taken some good hauls on the lamp to. He was the dog I owned when I was unemployed and spent most days travelling about the country with him and a few ferrets looking for bunnys to fill the freezer, couldn't have asked for a better companion. Doubt i'll ever have a dog quite like him, a pleasure to watch hunt and run, prey drive through the roof and turned on a six pence. Before h
  2. Woop woooooop! Chuffed to bits for you mate. Can't wait to see them! We will have to get out for a shine soon!
  3. I was proper confused by all the acronyms.. Not just the different groups but start throwing initials in and it started to become the krypton factor for me.. Lol Hopefully there will be one clear group who you can choose to get behind or not, depending on wether you want to be represented by them or not.... One potential issue is that this whole saga doesn't exactly show us as a united and organised force. . . . . . . If we are not careful it will look like we are a bunch of disorganised muppets who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery or agree on owt. . . . It also h
  4. Doesn't happen too often. . . . . and when it does, its got a habit of getting 'emotional' fast. OP - Nice springer. Nice walk. Nice hares. I'm jealous
  5. I am PROPER confused. It all seems a little ironic?
  6. does a specialist need to do BIG numbers when rabbits are aplenty, or do a handful where most would blank? Thats a good question. We are possibly confusing 'specialist' with 'outstanding'. Ive argued on here before that at times, numbers aren't everything, i.e a dog that catches 10/10 on very hard ground, catching every rabbit seen and run. . . . has probably done better than a dog that has caught twice as many in the same night, but missed lots i.e 20/60 on easy ground. I think we have also strayed into 'specialist rabbit lamping dog'.. . . . . . because I've met some very
  7. I'm probably going to upset someone or other. But I think if the dog can work the lamp, runs well enough and has a strike. It's all down to two things - stamina and number of rabbits on the ground. Pretty much any good lurcher with enough stamina and enough rabbits to go at, should be able to take mega bags. But its a rare thing when a man with the dedication to do it, a dog with the stamina and enough rabbits are all in the same place at the same time! I would put my money on it, that there are quite a few dogs that have never caught more than 20 in a night, who if their o
  8. Sure its been said but i think its a lot more to do with the individual dog than the x or breed. Also a lot of variables will effect what suits best, from land type, hunting style etc to the owners personality.
  9. Just got in the house. Having that moment you have after it all. Cup of tea in one hand, smoke in the other. Dirty, tired, dog at your feet, Reliving what went before. It's why we do it right? For those quiet little moments just you and the mutt, that no one else understands. That's the bit that I can't explain to anyone else. It can't be put into words, its the oldest of partnerships, man and dog. If they haven't experienced it, they will never understand. Old dog done good. He might be broken, but he still has it in him.
  10. My friend has two very big scary dogs. . . . . can't remember if they are presas or cano corso's. . . . . but they are both pretty ferocious. The dog has intact ears and the bitch cropped. . . . . . they both look scary, but the bitch looks the devil herself. Needless to say NO ONE gets out of the truck without them on a chain!
  11. More permission woop woop.

Not many :-D But enough other things of interest to make it worth a look ;-)

  12. There are a hell of a lot of worse ways to go through life mate.
  13. Well done, good to get a bit of fur in the pups mouth, never anything nicer than watching a pup 'come good'. Hows the other dog bred? Bull x? Or anything else?
  14. That's a fair summery Bosun. I'll give you that, and it sounds great in theory. I wish it all the best of luck. Lets just hope it doesn't go all Animal Farm on us
  15. A very good post. And I quite agree. If you wanted to achieve similar now, I would say that as great as an article in a fieldsports publication is for targeting a certain section of society, in order to target the young folk we are talking about, a social media savvy approach would be best. You will get far more success via you tube, Facebook and twitter than any other way. It is a means to get to any kid anywhere, and promote your message 24/7. . . . wherever they are. But it needs doing well.
  16. ......kind of missed the point, didn't they? ? Al Capone died in prison & no doubt his cronies died by the gun or the same..........so who were the fcuking idiots? .......more glorification of 'gangsters' for more hoodies..... A very fair point.
  17. I saw a great picture the other day. . . . . at the top was a picture of al capone and his gang, and below a picture of a load of 'youth' hoodies up, bandanas across faces etc. . . . . . the caption read. . . . . . . . These are gangsters. . . . . . . . . . . These are just f***ing idiots . . . . . .
  18. Yes 100%. Slightly off topic but I feel that it DOES relate to what we are discussing. . . . . . I know lots and lots of kids that sell heroin. Loads of them . . . . . and pretty much all of them don't take the stuff. Some don't even smoke weed. They do it because it gives them some status and protection on the estate and it gives them a pocket full of cash. How am I meant to tell them to stop doing that, go back to school, graft hard . . . . and then maybe, just maybe, they will get a job in tescos stacking shelves for minimal wage. While their mates, who carried on selling smack
  19. I very much see what you are saying, and I do agree with the sentiment. But there is this thing called 'the other 23 hours'. . . . . used when talking about . . . . . well the kind of kids I work with. An example . . . . I may work with a young man, maybe 15 years old. He lives on the estate, always has done, so do his brothers, cousins, dad. He sells drugs for a bit of cash, so do his brothers, cousins and his old man. . . . . they always have. They do well out of it, in his and their eyes, its fun, it works and its normal. He gets sent to me one day, and sits in a wee room
