Put it this way, when my dog and bitch both put themselves out of action for a good while. . . . . within the day i had three friends offer to loan me one of their dogs for a while. Why? Because it would mean that I could get out and keep hunting, and more importantly because their dog would get a pile of one on one time, and lots of work thrown at it, in a way they may struggle to do. I didn't take any in the end due to other commitments and kennel space!

Missed a trick there matey, should have got onto the new owners as they bought it Shame though. . . One of my favourite childhood mooching spots is now a housing estate. Heart breaking stuff.

I value my dogs more then friendships I suppose its about the kind of friends you have. The very small number of people who I would lend my dogs to. . . . i'd trust them not to put them in a situation I wouldn't. Putting it in context, no family member of other half has ever even walked my dogs. But there are a couple of mates who I just know have a good enough head on them, and have done enough, and care enough about their dogs, that they wouldn't do anything daft. In fact I reckon we'd all be more careful with someone else dog than our own

Out of interest. . . . . why would some of you NEVER EVER forgive your friend, if the dog managed to kill itself. . . . ? Would you deem it their fault? Why?
-
If they are true mates and you hunt together, then you will know that they won't do anything you wouldn't. If the dogs going to get hurt, it isn't going to make any difference, who it is that carries it home. . . . . . .it's just a roll of the dice every time the dog runs, and we don't have much to do with the outcome.

Only among close friends. I.E If your dogs in sick bay, and they have two, one getting less work etc, or there dog isn't getting out as much as they would like due to family stuff or whatever.

As the above post highlights. . . . . . its not really the dogs chasing the quarry thats the problem. Its the idiot who holds the other end of the lead

Yes regular..... It's why we have had some bad injuries and a death in the pack this season. Not great, but you've got to go where the game is!
-
Hows your bitch retrieving now ? Did you sort all the issues out At the moment she is injured, and will be out of the game for a while. . . . .so we shall see. She has not had much chance to go at many rabbit since last season, only been used for tracking / flushing etc. . . . . so a little difficult to tell. She has turned out an excellent bitch on that front, so either way she has a place here. Had one night out this season before she got injured, and just local, but she did retrieve everything she caught. . . . it was just me and her. Fingers crossed she keeps that up when

Is that not the sire of KPS pups?
-
I think the best piece of advice I've had with regard to pups etc, is spend as much time as you can with the dog, concentrating on getting a really strong bond, making him your best mate. Take your time training him and exposing him to all manner of different situations, have him out and about with you, getting used to everything. And when you feel he's mentally and physically ready, take him out on your own, just you and him and take the time to find the right quarry in the right situation, stack the odds in his favour, and keep him winning at the start. The rest is pretty much just luck.

Hopefully your Mam don't make your place into a zumba room when you go. LOL Can see my nan has her eye on it matey You'll be in the pool house then ) Probably! The hardest thing to move will be this skinny black b*****d. He's spent his whole life here, and is a bit of a creature of habit. No doubt he will settle eventually but will probably upset the neighbours a few times before that! I do wonder what they will think when next doors garden suddenly fills up with kennels, ferret courts and chicken pens

Haha cheers lads! Tomo - not quite, I'm not actually working for the estate but employed by a consultancy company who the estate have brought in to manage the livestock operation. Also it's a self employed basis on an hourly rate with a minimum weekly payout. It IS good here but it's hard to expand my own stock as I'm fitting it around my other job and land is expensive. I also spent hours and money driving round to check stock in lots of places. Down there I get ground at a lower price and in one block where I work. It should cut my overheads dramatically! I'm also lucky enough to ha

thats it jai, Buck could have killed in secs, he killed feral cats before the last bloody thing was stuck on his head with 4 feet and he choped it in secs, this old cat was just pet to her and it had no fear of dogs, it would be cruel really the thing wouldnd know what hit it , if hadnt held him back You'd be a heartless bloke if you didn't hold them back mate. Bit like if someone wasn't much of a fan of dogs, and mine was in the road by my house. . . . . i'd still hope they stopped rather than just ran it over! Live and let live Besides, its never worth upsetting the p

I don't really get the whole cat as a pet thing, but there you go. . . its someones pet. No different to how we feel about our dogs.

Getting The Kennel Ready For Willows Pups
Ideation replied to Snifferboy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs

You can if you want giro The one problem with retrieving lurchers, is that sometimes they bring you shit you don't want. . . . or bring you things you do, in front of people who get a bit upset
