    Thanks for all the advice. I have tried to add a bit of a counterweight so that the seesaw is more sensitive, but as of yet, no dice. We have caught a few more rats in the trap though. It is summer and most of the weasels have moved out for now. My son enjoys trapping the rats though and he is having a grand time. Thanks again for all your help.

    My wife raises JRT's and a few months back one of the pups went to a fella that is recovering from a liver disease. The pup is turning out real nice and he plans on learning to hunt with her when she matures. He has a few pictures of the pup posted on his blog if anyone is interested in taking a look. He is also doing some kind of bicycle ride to raise awareness of Liver Disease, and I'm sure he would appreciate any visitors.

    Just an update: I built one of these traps and it seems to work well enough to catch a rat, but it has not caught the weasels. I will have to try baiting it next and let you know how it goes. But with the rats moving back in, it is usually a good sign that the weasels have moved out. We only seem to have trouble with weasels in the winter. Thanks anyway!

    Hello all, I have a weasel that is doing a number on my birds. I need advice on a weasel trap, or some way of catching weasels with terriers. If this topic has already been covered, will someone direct me to it. Thanks.

    The wife raises Jacks and some of them are notorious to housetrain, though they seem to outgrow it. She puts the pups in a kennel at night and is home most of the day to get it out on a schedule. She posted her method on her site She also paper trains which seems to help a lot, especially in the winter. But I still think it takes some Jacks quite a bit longer to catch on than some other breeds. Just don't tell her I said that

    Our Jacks will excitedly run after and dig after rabbits and often do, but they act completely different when they smell a fox. They go insane when they smell a fox, and will do everything they can to get to it. They are insatiable for the fight. But I do agree that it is annoying to be hoping for a fox and dig down to a rabbit.

    Good rescue Over the years I have collected a few decent dogs that people were just going to shoot or leave for dead. With a bit of training, and proper handling, some of them became top dogs. Of course the previous owners are still useless.

    My daughter trains bird dogs and she uses a very simple method that even works with stubborn Chessapeaks. She gets a couple of ducks and geese and clips off the wings to use for retrieving. The dogs seem to get quite excited about retrieving the wings and love the game. Then she throws the wing and has someone stand a ways off and fire the gun before sending the dog, so the sound of the gun is distant. Then she changes to the gun firing first then throw the wing and send the dog. They get gradually closer to the gun, but really by then whenever the dog hears a shot, it goes

    The neighbour had a problem losing chickens so put up a 6' chain link fence around his coop, then lost a few cats. We found one of their cats in a fox's den just across the road(and dug the fox). We caught these two young ones under the shed near the livestock.

    One of my Patts was like that. She just sat right beside me all the time. Outside she was always right on my heels or walking between my feet tripping me up, but now I have to keep a close eye on her at all times. If she gets a scent, she is underground in a wink. She is hard, rarely makes noise, and always ready.

    Hey SGS, Nice site, it is great to meet others who use their dogs. You have a nice looking Jack there too. Here is a picture of one of the foxes I dug to this summer.

    Sounds like a sad state of affairs. On here you will find many folk who keep proper Russel type terriers. Bred for work, as they always were, no bullshite registered crap or kennel club papers, they dont mean shit im afraid. That sounds great. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

Mostly we just seem to find people that put dogs down because they are not registered, so we are hoping to find others who are just interested in terriers for the love of the dogs.     Hey, I live in the farmland of Saskatchewan, Canada. My son has three Staghounds that he loves to run. My wife has a few Jack Russells. And I have a lot of work.
