  1. Nice one T, coming on well Bilbo isn`t he
  2. I just give the bites a good clean with salt and water. If theres a fair few and looks to be swelling up bad then I follow with a jab of penny. Putting heat lamp over dog also helps with healing process, if you feed dried food soften it up with gravy it will make eating a little more comfortable.
  3. As I`ve come down with flu and off work I siezed the opportunity to sort my laptop out as there`s pictures all over the place. All collected up now and filed in different named folders. I thought I would share a few with you from a session way back in april I think, when I got an invite from browner. It was all over in an hour and that includes waiting for farmer to move bails away with machine. It was fast and furious to say the least, worth traveling down. A total of 65 in an hour, not bad to say we had 3 adults and 5 young dogs PS Thanks to the guys who responded to last post regarding
  4. When we were kids we used to get hold of a few steralised milk bottles, you remember the ones with a long thin neck, we put bread in them and leant them up against shoes etc at an angle, mouse goes in, slides down, cant grip the glass to get back out. This is the most effective method I`ve used, we used to catch them by the dozens. ATB
  5. Off with flu today, thought i`d give my laptop a clean up, have photos all over the place. All filed now. Wanted to start a new post with pics but cant get them on due to the sizes. Can anybody explain to me in english how to down size photos, got some good pics. Cheers
  6. Couldn`t agree more, binned my rat attack, put my motors on the shelf for a rainy day, bought myself a new leaf blower, tried it all this season to good effect, kinder to the dogs nose too.
  7. Recently put one up, type in Ratting with Plummer terriers
  8. When I made my quick set nets I purchaced some fibre glass poles from a suppliers of tents and camping gear on the high street. You can buy them in a variety of lengths, diameters and colours in packs or singularly. Pretty cheap too. I eased off the ferrals and ground a 45 degree angle at one end to a point. No problems so far. ATB Trev
  9. I bought the deben 3 ferret set and an additional ferret collar, enabling me to enter 2 ferrets when I went ferreting. Once I mastered the new box I went on to purchace 2 terrier collars that had a smaller strap and buckle riveted to the main collar for a fiver a piece. This enabled me to use the same transmitters for ferret and dogs to good effect, after all Ive yet to have a 16 foot dig to render it useless in my area.
  10. As I was snowed in and couldnt make work today I took advantage and went out with my 2 young plummers, as I said in another post I have covered a lot of miles in the car and on foot last week checking earths and pipes to no avail, although they did push a few out of cover. Today my terriers chanced on a fox in a thick bramble patch roughly 20 x 100 yards long. Having heard the comotion I threw myself in the patch to assist, up to my neck in thorns, falling into a hidden stinking ditch water up to my knees, falling head over heals ankles round my shoulders and cut to ribbons I finally got to th
  11. I know Sumo got an invite a few months ago and had a count up of 702 with a small bobbery pack, he rackons there was at least another 300 which the dogs buried whilst digging on still in the litter trays under the chicken sheds. The tractor couldnt pull out trays for the mud. It was quit inacessible as there was only enough room for dogs from top of litter to under floor. Perhaps any of the lads who were there can give us a post. As for myself I only manage up to 2 dozen with 3 or 4 terriers on my pitches.
  12. I use heavy duty 8 inch metal eyes, used for fencing, ones with the threads on and used grinder to hone a bit of a point on. Hope this helps
  13. I`d let her be a puppy to start with with plenty of love and attention, socialising especially with other dogs, concentrate on breaking to stock etc, learn her basic commands, give her something to play and rag on till her second teath come on and start her on greys, let her watch other dogs do it and it will come naturally with a bit of encouragement, all above will pay off in the long run. Good luck
  14. Me too, stopped in all Christmas to keep her indoors happy, covered a lot of miles in car and leg work all this week and nothing to ground but the terriers put a few up out of thick cover.
  15. Nice one, good to see young uns involved and enjoying it
  16. Knew someone would ask that question Hywel. In all honestly I only saw 2 minor incidents and that involved one of my terriers, a dog of 14 months old, he has worked with my own pack with no problems to date so I could only assume he was overwhelmed with that many terriers around him 26 in total, however he was put in his place very quickly by myself, we wont tollerate it as it can upset the whole pack. When one is digging onto a rat and another terrier sticks his nose in you will hear the odd grumble and you just difuse the situation. Its a question of keeping the whole pack busy and watching
  17. Thanks for the positive comments guys. I will take you up on that offer Hannah as long as its a freebie for us poor terrier men LoL, will let you know. Nice one Tom, dropped on there, nice to see other breeds having a go, you must have been chuffed. I didnt go into the days events as there was too much to mention, needless to say it was explosive with non stop action, however watch this space as a DVD will be coming out in the near future by Rally Scene. 18. Hi all, am a keen hunter as far back as I can remember in most aspects of the field including fishing, ferreting, air rifle, shot gun, snaring, long netting and terrier work above and below ground with Plummers. Looking forward to exchanging experiences and knowledge.
  19. Every now and then somebody drops on a farm crawling with rats. A few phone calls around the country gets a few of the lads together to have a good days ratting. As you can see in the photos there was 16 of us and 26 terriers with a tally of 300 plus rats. A most enjoyable day had by all with a good team of lads and terriers and one very happy farmer.
