  1. Good post SS. Its all a learning curve, not always txt book, dogs did you proud, this happened to me once but it would be interesting to see how many would own up to this type of error. Still its there for next weeks hunt I say. ATB Dillan
  2. Thanks for replies guys. I have considered lamping at night with terriers, but feel there are too many hazards about this place, sharp machinery etc. The 2 bitches in question are half sisters, father being Wyremead Kraken, mothers are from Coalville Billy lines and Eire lines. Night vision, I use a compact Sony handy cam which is fitted to the scope, I observe with the view finder. The digi cam has facilities for night vision but with limited distance so I use an infra red filter on the lamp to extend viewing up to 50yrds away easily in pitch black. Had to resort to this as the rats were ver
  3. Nice dog BBB, what lines is he, that place looks familiar, did you come across owt. Didnt manage to get out today, too knackered after Friday night outing and ferreting yesterday. ATB Dillan
  4. Sorry to hear that DD, know how you feel, lost a father and daughter plummers myself 2 yrs ago, was well gutted after digging 12 ft to 2 dead dogs. weeks of grieving and kicking myself, but time heals, best dogs I`ve ever owned, good alrounders, but I bounced back.
  5. Managed to get an hours ratting after work before it got dark. I use this pig farm weekly with air rifle to keep the rats down. Have tried a couple of times with terriers with little success as the rats tend to live in the cavities and run the beams and rafters. However after a few weeks lay off due to my guns in for MOT, a few rat holes were starting to appear around the sheds. So out with 2 young bitches to keep their hand in produced a bag of 9, however they did miss more than they caught as it was tough going with all the junk etc, it wasn`t their day, rats seem to be bolting whilst they

  9. why not. Brian created the plummer terrier using a number of breeds which included the beagle. It not only put a better nose in them, it gave them packing instinct. This is invaluable when hunting farms like this. For example when we rolled over the bales there was anything from a dozen to two dozen rats under each one, believe me theres not many that get away if at all. It is also pleasing to the eye when they`re packed together working, however you will always get one that dont. Dillan
  10. is that the coalville ratpack Yes DP is a big fella, hands like shovels, strong as an OX, A character he is, this guy has lived, remember him coming to apleby fair other year with me 2hrs there 2hrs back, told some great tales he`d been involved in in his lifetime, had me in stitches never told same story twice, he could write a book. A gentle giant. Not coalville ratpack, them dogs long time gone or aged. It was a team combining Severn Valley and Donny Rat pack. A day to remember. Platty asked me other day to do an article for countrymans weekly, am on
  11. Dont mean to put a damper on it Titchy, may stand correcting, but its my understanding although its legal to buy these, it is actually illegal to use them. It has to be done by a vet. I know this as I know a friend of a friend who was reported to RSPCA, took all dogs off him and doing him for it last I heard. Super glue just as good, it was initially invented for the use on soldiers wounds in the war. If its good enough for them its good enough for my terriers. ATB
  12. how do you convert the leaf blower? Thin metal pipe welded to exhaust outlet and returned to fan. Fan drags in air, fumes/smoke. In addition to this a small tank is fixed to top of motor with a tap. If the rats dont bolt by air alone crack open tap, drip feeding diesel into a well in the hot engine, the diesel will vapourise into smoke. You may have to just leave engine ticking over though as if you put it on full throtle it just blows the smoke straight in and out of warrens and you cant see a thing. Hope this helps ATB
  13. As title suggests, were looking to add a third DVD to complete a 3 dvd box set on ratting with terriers. This is profesionally carried out by a team of dedicated terrier men willing to travel and do whatever is possible to eradicate these pest, goes without saying all stock, buildings etc respected. Im sure you have a chicken, maggot, pig or cattle farm near you that you cant keep on top of. Come and join the experience, it will be fun. Cheers Trev Donny Ratpack

  17. If my memory serves me right, it does not pick up the old grey knocker box transmiters, it does pick up mark 2, but mark 2 doesn`t pick up mark 3 transmitters. If you look at the Deban catalogue it tells you in there. ATB
  18. The plan was to get to Browners for Saturday morning, check a few earths on the estate, get back to his, get pissed and go ratting following day with the cavalry. Well rest asure we wasn`t disapointed, what a weekend. Me, Phil, Browner,Stuart and Adge with 8 Plummers. We drew up a wood with a gun at the end proved fruitless, so off to the next wood which had an earth which regularly holds. A good opportunity to try young dogs with little or no experience. Dogs collared up and on leads we aproached the earth in a stealthy fashion. Two guns in position we slipped Lucy, a 2 year old bitch belongi
