  1. I think you would struggle to get a good breeder of small munsters there are plenty of large about
  2. ive seen quite a few spinone work they are big old powerful dogs obviously they are an HPR and not a springer or the other ones begins with L you know the ones I mean popular with the Scottish people. Easy enough to train spinones but you need good blood lines with these dogs. Never seen a Toller
  3. That's a big journey for a little pup, good luck to both of you
  4. Well I have a young dog I am working with at the minute and I have decided to get him up and working on the gun first before I introduce him to ferreting. I could have done it the other way about but I want his main job to be hunting birds so I decided to train him this way round. After a couple of seasons and he settles down he will have worked out what its all about and switch his style accordingly. The best dogs are the ones worked regularly and at various jobs it just makes sense that you will build a much better stronger bond when you are both out hunting a lot of the time
  5. We have a herd of cattle at work I give the buggers a wide birth all year round. The young bull seems placid enough but you can never tell
  6. Although I have a labradoodle and wire haired vizsla as my gun dogs, we look after a lot of labs and spaniels in our day to day dog boarding/day care business, some of which are working dogs. My personal favourites are the labs just because they are a bit more easy going (Not all) than spaniels. We find a lot of working type spaniels in pet homes and without proper training/exercise they go nuts. To be honest I would say about 50% of dog problems are down to not enough exercise. The other 50% is down to poor socialisation of the puppy and lack of the owners consistencyin care and training
  7. Its nice to see not everyone is out of touch with the countryside. I don't think we will see an end to fieldsports in this century but who knows what the far future will bring
  8. Ive never seen a sticky spaniel, if the breeding is there it will hunt
  9. I asked the secretary of the GSP club I go to if she knew anyone but its all about the large munsterlander at the moment, No one knows of anyone in the Yorkshire/north east area working one. Good luck with your search
  10. I have a labradoodle that will pluck and oven ready a shot bird but a pricked bird will be given a sling and painkillers until it is better. Helluva dog!!
  11. I know a bloke who brought a vizsla over from Hungary, it cost him 360 euro for transportation etc. but the bitch itself cost 2,500 euro. Im not sure about paperwork
  12. Ive seen a lot of these on the moor used by the local keeper, seem like reasonable dogs
  13. First up I have never shot a .22 or 17hmr so I need to know where I can go in County Durham or Northumberland or even North York's (Will I need a passport for Yorkshire?) to get a days tuition. That aside I have the permission and facility to use either rifle on rabbits on a couple of farms where I work. I have looked at a few comments on various sites regarding the differences and capability's but I would like your comments please on what you find useful and what advice you could give to a complete novice like myself. I've had shotguns most of my life and I've owned and hunted with va

  18. She is coming on mate, hope you didn't disturb any nesting ducks! Janos is definitely not a lab but he is working water well, but then again my old dog doesn't work a field like Janos! Bonny pup she has stunning eyes
  19. Ive been a gardener all my life and there is nothing to calm the soul better than standing in a greenhouse, polytunnel or garden you have worked on and grown the plants from seed. Enjoy it Jim
  20. Lets call and end to the argument lads, i was walking the dogs same as i do every morning, This ground is not shot over there is a covey of greys that have been here for years.
  21. How should i exercise my dogs Hilly in the nesting season? I live in a tiny place on top of a hill surrounded by arable fields criss crossed by footpaths. Now i could take my dogs down on a 15 minute trip 3 times a day to the nearest town park. where i could let them run is that what you do? I would just like to add that no nests or birds were harmed during my walk this morning? My dog pointed a partridge in the middle of a field.
  22. Up and out the door a 5.30 this morning with Bob the labradoodle and Janos the Vizsla, filthy sleety weather blowing a gale up here. Pissed off and cold i noticed the vizsla who is really getting out in these big arable fields come on point. I Walked up a little bit with Bob on the lead and bumped the partridge up. Its Janos first point on partridge a bird i consider to be one of the hardest game birds to scent. A nice stop followed (Though not a sit) and a distracted recall brought him in for some well earned praise.14 months old and in many ways still a puppy but i felt a bit warmer after th
  23. well done for asking the question
  24. He knows alright, i have a lot of respect for spaniels and the work they do but i couldnt own one as i would probably end up killing it or having a heartattack. Start off with him on a long lead and get him steady. It all depends on what you can put up with but if he was on a syndicate shoot he would end up ruining other guns sport. Good luck
