  3. i cant beleive some plum would knock this post!! The dog is as good as it gets, he has looks, speed and he does the job for F . . .s Sake some of the people on this site are just nasty. Mate that dog would make anybody proud, well done backing him up and getting the most from him
  4. bold pup jumping wire and retreiving. good to seee a pup being brought up well. strong looking dog plenty of growth there. good luck
  5. good day for dogs and men by the looks of things, good clean sets, quick runs and some excellent photography. Do your whippets open up (Yap) when coursing. The reason i ask is that i am thinking of putting my bitch back to a whippet. i know some do and some dont and to some people it doesnt matter but it can be a bugger if your ferreting woodland every noise sounds twice as loud and then the rabbits spend all morning galloping around the warren. This is a genuine enquiry im not knocking whippets
  6. The practice of using "Droppers" is illegal and cruel and this is a forum where we dont know who we are talking too on many occasions, so talking about teasing a dog with live rabbits will sound barbaric to an anti or member of the RSPCA. My advice to any genuine enquiry like this is to just get the dog out and about after legal quarry as much as possible. young dogs will eventually catch on wether its ferrting, shooting or using the lamp. a rabbit skin dummy is an excellent start followed by a cold retrieve of a dead rabbit. catching rabbits isnt easy stuff and needs natural aptitude foll
  7. i live out in the sticks and the farmers around here are sick of lampers cutting fences, stealing equipment threatning farmers, there has even been a garage done by two lads with a greyhound like dog. i dont condone violence to man or beast but farmer are men just like us with property just like us and we wouldnt want people in your back garden robbing your shed!! get permission go all out for it and you will get it, i have worked for mine in the past you dont get owt for nowt if you poach then the conequences have to be faced. wether thats being given a kicking or going to court or go
  8. i wouldnt mess about bud just get her to the vet and get it sorted. i know the b*****ds have our eyes out (i paid £200 for a set of stiches recently)but she deserves it and it will sort your head out one way or the other on decidng her future
  9. Beautiful dogs lads, cant beat a bit of bull to make a bonny dog
  10. Chris it just take time eevry dog is different. just keep him close and dont push him i had a brick shit house of a collie x gry 23 years ago and he was bloody useless until he was two, brillant at obedience but lacked drive, yellow eyed dog called jazz. then one day out with mates shooting we shot duck over a frozen pond he retrieved like a b*****d straight through the ice when the spaniel just stood on the bank. after that it was like it all fell into place for him he worked like a demon for the rest of his short life. (tree stump) i do spend a lot of time getting the basics right but i
  11. Thanks WR its heartbreaking walking around a dogs trust or council dog home, every other dog is a lurcher or long dog, every dog i have works but even if it doesnt and ive had the odd one, it has a home here for life, we even foster dogs until we get them re homed. i am lucky i have housing and room for dogs and we can generally look after five without too much trouble. as i get older my biggest fear is being wthout a dog, my health isnt brilliant but i dread the day i cant get my boots on and head off across the fields. Too many tool box dogs out there and its sad i dont understan
  12. she is kelpie x whippet/grey mate. you just have to take your time with the pups some like her are very serious focused little dogs i would say in general yours might be a bit younger in the head the bigger the dog they seem to take longer to grow up. but all dogs are differnt enjoy him lad but dont push him hard he is stil a bairn we have a saluki x grey as well he is a beautiful dog but numb
  13. No lofti no saluki there i made sure of that we have a big saluki x grey numb as a post but a beautiful dog.

  15. kelpie x whippet/grey she is just 21" but she is only 8 months old so she will probably make 22". I only do rabbit so she is ideal for me. very focused little dog

Resized to 88% (was 1023 x 685) - Click image to enlarge Resized to 88% (was 1023 x 685) - Click image to enlarge Took out the pup today to enter her to the game, just a couple of easy sets certain to hold rabbits. She did really well the basic obedience training held up well and her recall was excellent, My main concern was her attention span and riskng her whining when she was waiting. I neednt have worried she was as good as gold ran one bolter but lost it in a hedge set. she covered the second bolt well and left the netted rabbit when told to. She ignored the dead bunnys

  20. now then big lad hows your mousehound going i hope it dosnt grow up ugly cos im hoping to us it on maggie if it isnt as gay as its owner
  21. i wouldnt use any saluki blood and would prefer a 3/4 grey/collie, just not enough brains in the saluki for me.But if you go ahead it should be a nice looking litter though and they will sell well
  22. Not wishing to be contentious but if line breeding was the way forward and all the best dogs are always line bred for genrations. Why then do we cross breed to produce long dogs or lurchers? why not just stick to coursing greys, salukis, pharoh sloughis or whippet all of which can and are more than capabe of doing a good job? After all they have been line bred 100s of generations i have to say greatness isnt just about line breding it has a lot to do with nurture and that bit indfineable something else. i dont agree with deer coursing and i was never that fussed about hares eith
  23. iv had both in the past and now have a saluki x grey. and a pup kelpie x. when hare coursing was legal i think the long dog was the usual choice but now i have gone for the lurcher as i ferret rabbits and i find the big saluki x a bit slow off the mark on big fields and he isnt bright bless him, he catches ok but just ok. saying all of that the best rabbit dog i ever saw was an almost pure greyhound with a tiny bit of collie in it, he was 28" a superb dog long dead now, i worked with his owner many a night in ireland we took ten plus rabbitts most nights and he was dynamite off the bock wh
