f**k me whin when i was his age i would have crawled over broken glass to get 1 or 2 rabbits!! i think we spoil our kids too much, my lad would deny that i ever spoiled him compared to his mates parents but these days kids want it all handed on a plate its always the quickest and easiest route, he even said to me tday that someone should give him a job when he finishes college not that he should go out and try to get a job!! im at my wits end with hm soe days

bushing with the lurchers and terriers,
stroller replied to FENS FEVER's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its cracking fun with yer mates its a real hooley, i love bushing with terriers. keep it up bonny lad -
I had been looking forward to doing a couple of big hedge sets today with the help of my son, but he cried off cos he is a lazy ferreting companion if the set isnt in the middle of a field he doesnt want to know, the hedge set might have a hundred rabbits in it and it stil wont matter. its led to some bonny rows between us never mind a fathers frustration with bone idle kids. This morning didnt start well the ground was as hard as bel metal but i got kitted out and maggie and me was off on our way. About halfway through the journey the snow fell with a vengance and fifteen minutes

How do you bring your dogs up to peak fitness?
stroller replied to stroller's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
For starters heres mine i keep my dogs inside and out which gets them used to living as part of a family and i beleive builds more of a bond the dogs get 30 - 45 minutes of free running every morning and two 15 minute walks during the day or evening. If they are being built up for the season i will get the bike out and they will do a couple of miles of roadwork. at weekends they get a lot more as we do organised dog walks. it depends on the pup and its breeding but from about ten months on i wil start to concentrate more on the individual dog and increase the roadwork building it -
How do you get the best from your dogs? How much and what type of exercise do you give? How old is a pup when you start this regime? what and how often do you feed? what obedience training do you consider a must before entering a pup? What care do you give your dog after a session on the lamp or out mooching or ferretting. Im sure this has been answered a mllion times in fragmented threads but its a chance to get your thoughts down and give a comprehensive guide to the younger up and coming hunters, and dispel the myth of macho lurcher owners who think nowt for their do

ive hammered a few, but in them days a lot of it was for money. being young and daft helped. but then again i hammered more geordies and they are my own, and that was just for fun. i fought a man once who picked me up by my neck like a rag doll he was a big bloke. i knew i was in trouble i know a few lads who were in the game its a laugh going over the same old shite

is the gun still for sale mate?
-
ive seen it a few times now, rabbits arent paralysed with fear but they definately dont run as fast as they do when a dog chases them. i watched one hunt a hedgerow and push a rabbit out into the field my lad ran after The rabbit and nearly caught it. i dont know exactly what happens but the rabbit almost seems resigned to its fate
-
if were you and you were confident the dogs were ok why not get on to the enviromental health people and ask them for advice invite them in, invite the rspca, the police every f****r. then get a hold of your neighbour by the jaw and give him a friendly shake. im a bit of a scary looking bloke soft as shite really but my size and my miserable looking face puts people off
-
i dont know if you have ever watched them hunt Coop but they are ruthless little b*****ds he knew i was there probably one of last years young and very hungry, he was lucky i didnt have the gun. but fair play to him he worked hard for the kill. can you imagine trying to bolt rabbits with a stoat instead of a ferret? you would spend all day digging!!
-
Mags 8 months old some whippet in there
-
This is gospel truth watched a stoat catch a rabbit today,(i was sat in a tractor next to some woodland), he was as fast as f**k and probably only 4" high. so maybe a chihuaha xs could be the next big thing??
