  1. every year we breed from one jill and over the past 2 years the jills have become very aggressive after having a litter? The kits have been sold and the normally tame and well handled ferret has become nasty. i have re homed both jills and they have still continued to be little b*****ds with their new owners. This year i have just mated a little corker of a silver ferret, and i intend to handle her every day up until her last week of pregnancy. then just leave her alone its her first litter so i dont want to stress her out. i dont want to have her turn into a biter as she is a superb w

  6. Welcome to the site mate, you will be fine as long as you dont mention.... Whippets....Salukis....malamute crosses...minshaw dogs and other related hunting matters. No seriously its a good site with an even measure of people who know what they are talking about and looneys.
  7. Your dog will be fine, dont worry about it. and dont take all advice to heart, some of its bollocks
  8. get the recall and stay commands in as fast as you can,an out of control springer can have all the game spooked right into the next county. get him to heel off lead and start on hand signals at an early age. the above book explains it if you can get him not to chase rabbits then all well and good but it probably wont matter if he is just for lurcher work same with the retrieve. springers are a lot of fun enjoy your dog
  9. Yes katytess, i bought her at 8 weeks put her down on the living room carpet and the first thing she did was go for a man passing the window (Terrace street)She turned into a horror with people.Dogs.cats. anything really she was probably un balanced. When i sold her i kept track of her until she died at the age of 7,The lad who bought her was a lorry driver and in her career she ate the insides of two cabs, destroyed his mothers kitchen chewed various kennels to bits added to the reasons of his first divorce killed a couple of cats etc etc. but he loved the dog. im not sure why she died so
  10. i had a pure english and she was a twat just a looney of a dag. even the saluki is easier trained. dont know of any lurcher xs though maybe they are different. had to sell the bitch in the end the wife got pregnant and i wouldnt have trusted that particular dog dhe nearly killed her kennel mate when she was 6 months old

  12. some do and some dont he is your dog you know him what do you think? but he will be a much more physically mature fitter dog at the start of the season so he will catch and there no doubt be myxi and youbg rabbits about in the next month or so. i wouldnt worry too much
  13. lurcher girl that would turn yer stomach looking at that wound, poor dog i know its expensive, maggie bust her stitches because in theory it sounds ok to lead walk them but just letting her out in the garden was a nightmare she hammers round it like an assault course. (Its a big back garden on different levels) She is fine now and has been flying around hammering the big saluki x this morning she really has found her gears. As an aside one of the farmers i know is working to remove all barbed wire from his land and he is a hill sheep farmer which is great for me as i tend to get the c
  14. Good write up mate and nice to see a young dog coming on, ive given up for the season but will still lamp and shoot on one or two places. i dont think the antis know what a f*****g pest rabbits are they will devastate a bit of ground if they arent controlled. still twenty rabbits will keep the landowner happy
  15. thank f**k for this thread it takes the heat off salukis and the poor old whippet
  16. run an electric stock wire along the top of the fenceabout 15" out and pointing in towards the garden. it works and doesnt harm the dog and is cheaper than putting up a six foot fence which two of my dogs can jump anyway. and once the dog has been zapped a couple of times he wont try anymore.
  17. thanks chaps forgot to say my budget would be about £500
  18. I dont want to jump through the hoops for a FAC so i want a good reliable accurate spring air rifle, not against the gas guns just prefer the spring type. What telescopic sight is good in combination? Any advice is gratefully received,I have never shot an airgun as a serious pest control weapon but they seem equal to the task in mind Regards Stroller
