  1. Thats a proper litter, with handy looking parents. A well thought out breeding which will im sure make excellent dogs in the right hands. good luck with the bullshitters
  2. he is a bonny baby congratulations to you and your missus
  3. put some work into her mate get her socialised take her into town, give her a wide range of experiences, take her to a game fair.she is probably a very intelligent dog by the sounds of it. You need to be responsible for her future so do your best take her to a training class. You need to be consistent with this little dog mate to get the best out of her. some dogs are easy to rear up others like this one and the two ive got need work be inventive, be patient, cos your being f****d off will make her worse. be gentle and forget about macho lurcher man training methods. its up to you in t
  4. I took 3 of my dogs at the local dog agility training on sunday and a woman there who is a farmers wife went a bit funny when i told her that maggie was used for ferreting rabbits and that bob was used for beating and picking up,She obviously didnt agree with hunting by the sounds of her sighs and "oh dears" but i never took her on as there were other people in the group who were interested in what i had to say in a positive sense. why do people do this for fucks sake its none of their business!! funnily enough her lab pup which is a real beauty is from working lines and is a real little g
  5. i know what you mean willum everybody reckons its great for me working outdoors but its too hot in the summer too wet in the autumn too cold in the winterand in the spring its all three of the above :)

  6. Good way to advertise a litter and not be a donator, me thinks your a cheeky monkey
  7. Thanks lads, your comments are always appreciated. im learning a lot about this sport, i never took air guns seriously before as im a dyed in the wool dog and ferret man, but they are bloody effective. This forum has some top people
  8. Went down to my mates fields tonight but called round to another paddock that has a few on first and took two from it in a matter of minutes, 1 of which was from about 5 yards it just popped out then fell over with a lead inbalance. My mate colin was working spreading nitrogen on the fields with rabbits bouncing all around him, so he came over and had a bit chat we stopped now and again for me to take aim and i shot 4 using his landrover as a rifle rest. all comes to all a local farmer is swamped with rabbits and wants me to come and sort them out but he has to get the ok from the keep
  9. i dont think a dog stopping at a ditch is reason enough to sell it on. i think its a fairly sensless thing to do. There could be many reasons why the dog jibbed. f*****g lurchers are treat like shit by some people tool box dogs thats all they are. if your swapping and selling dogs your no dog man in my eyes
  10. maybe you should send the before and after photos into the local news paper with a bit of a write up they will probably use it
  11. if you stumble over a rabbit on your walk and the dog catches it no bother, then well done a good start for a working dog.the dog will be that bit keaner for the start of the season when you enter him properly. good luck with it
  12. Thanks boys, im not sure if the hobs are proven sires i chose them for working ability and size they are medium size and consistent workers. if she doesnt take with this hob i will get her jabbed or speyed. it will be a shame as she is a good worker
  13. i remember the post when you first got him, well done
  14. mated my year old jill with a borrowed hob, left them in together for a week and watched them mate succesfully on a couple of occasions, and the jill had the tell tale signs of being roughed up by the hob so i waited expectantly but unfortunately she wasnt pregnant. never mind the lad who loaned me the hob has given me a couple of kits which is really good of the lad. problem is the jill is back in season so for her health i have mated her with another hob. if she is for whatever reason infertile will she keep going in to season? she is a really good little jill a real grafter. so i want w
  15. Maggie kelpie x grew 22" ats, these pics where of her at 8/9 months (12/13 months now) she has had four ferreting trips at the back end of the season nothing too exhausting just a sunday morning wander really. just waiting for the hay fields to be gathered in then we will take her out for a bit of lamping training. by october she should be spot on god willing. Nervous little dog very hyper but easily trained,Can run all dayand is working well at agility training and can clear a field gate easily, she looks like a black dingo not what i would call pretty but has feet like iron and superb collie
  16. what does he do put it in his pocket? how old is he? if he is a young un what are his parents thinking of? Chances are he will end up ruining a well bred pup i have a kelpie x rolling around at my feet trying to chew the ears off my big dog, she is a year old and not an easy first lurcher. its a shame the kid isnt getting guidance on how to look after his dog properly
  17. Life is better when the sun shines

  18. Them were the good old days pre ban foxing powerful looking dog
  19. must be a hard little dog,and nothing wrong with that but its best to stop it as quick as you can, farmers dont look to kindly on a dog killing the farm cat! i had a jack russel chase a cat into a farm house and onto the kitchen table when the farmers family were having breakfast, the dog didnt get the cat but it was close. everybody thought it was funny fortunately. it will take a lot of practice and patience but you need to re introduce the whippet to cats in a friendly way good luck
  20. Helen you are absolutely correct about there coats its a myth, the last pup we rescued had been sold on that basis to a woman who suffered badly with eczema when i went to pick the pup up she was absolutely distraught that it had to go but her face hands and arms were weeping with open cracks the eczema had flaired up in response to the pup. They are no more hyper than border collies or some of the pointer breeds and certainly no more active than my kelpie x grew. i know a lot of people with poodle crosses now through the society. and really no 2 dogs look alike but they all need socialis
  21. Nice one mate it definately helps if they have an interest and there is nothing better for a kid than a useful dog and a bonny one at that. good luck with it
  22. tell me about it i have a labradoodle and a golden doodle, £500 and £600 each respectively . But by buying them i was allowed two lurchers without any fuss as the missus wanted them and at the end of the day they are worth what people will pay for them. Labradoodles goldendoodles cockapoos etc do shed there coats and arent allergen free, the former two are fairly large to medium dogs with loads of energy and working potential, and as a result they are also joining lurchers in rescue centres as people dont realise that these big mongrels take a lot of looking after. There is now a r
  23. i totally agree with what your saying the fault was mine for not having maggie under control, but i think the ladies point was that i should have all four of the dogs on the lead at all times as more than two dogs constitute a pack and the dire consequences that follow with pack behaviour, i would probably add that in my opinion more than one dog can lead to pack behaviour. The lady was threatened by the dogs running loose, as soon as i spotted her i brought the dogs in and as said earlier maggie slipped off without my seeing her go. I do take steps to avoid dogs on a lead as i know how pe
  24. no it was a normal coloured dog and it was down by the river at willington near crook,Ive seen a big white dog around Coundon which is another big horrible b*****d. a lad at the agility training where i take maggie and bob has a big black german shepherd dog which gets that frustrated it bites him!! i feel a bit sorry for her really when you think about it she obviously cant walk around where she lives as the dog is a nuisance, whereas i go down there as its on the flat and im recovering from a knee op so its easier to walk, where i live is one of the highest points in durham so all my lo
  25. i would have pissed my self laughing if it had been someone else, she was 4 foot nowt and she was giving it the finger pointing and everything i must have looked like a naughty school boy, i wouldnt have gone anywhere near her dog it was in the back of a 4 x 4 and was the size of a small horse i couldnt really see it for teeth and slaver.
