  1. Yep that sounds like my little dog and my first wife......OH MY GOD have i subliminally substituted a qaurrelsome ex for a quarrelsome dog???????????
  2. I had a jack russel that would do that Neal. One memorable day she was half way down a hole and i tried to tail her out but she wouldnt budge, so i got down put my arm through her legs and my hand was on her chest and tried to pull her out that way. just as i heaved i heard and felt a snap so thinking the worst and not knowing what i had broken i continued to pull. out comes snoopy with a tree root in her mouth the little b*****d was hanging on!! No idea how to get your bitch to stop doing that i used to let a shot off if snoopy dissapeared she would soon come back to find out what was goi
  3. i wouldnt take on a full grown dog all of mine have always been from puppies and i dont particularly like puppy hood its a nightmare. but its the only way to get a dog trained and bonded properly so you just get on with it
  4. keep up the good work bonny lad and im sure she will come right, who knows you might be starting with the best dog you will ever own. its up to you to find her potential. and dont apologise about your spelling there are some literary geniuses on here that wouldnt even attempt what your doing. its all about heart in the man and in the dog.
  5. i can only agree with what that pest controller said shepp and here are three pictures to prove it. the top one is most recent she flew into cover after a rabbit only to fing a roll of barbed wire in whinny bushes with this one you can just see the shave mark where the vets knocked her out the actual cut is on her chest and its healed very well We were out ferreting at the back end and she hit a hedge pinning a bolter just a little cut on the top of the left leg as you look at it not a bad collection of rips for a 15 month old pup she wont make it through this sea
  6. our saluki x loves being handled he is fine on re call and walks to heel no bother but you cant call him off a chase unless your really quick and block him, very clever dog and is good at hunting up, i wouldnt say he likes dogs overly he tolerates the two bitches is friends with the big dog but definately has his own space and is a bit bad tempered about sharing anything.
  7. not really mate he is a collie x and he is brighter than both of us take him out on a leash with another dog let the other dog catch but keep him in. then try him. the presence of another dog usually sparks the do or die attitude your looking for, but once he has learned this trick it might be hard to keep him from doing it in the future. it might be something you have to live with, he isnt lazy but knows his own limitations or maybe he just wants to drive you nuts
  8. well you know what to do mate get her lined with a grew that will sort that little problem for you Maggie is out of favour with the missus at the moment the other older dogs are so laid back to be horizontal so this little black whirlwind is a pain to her. i was hoping her first season would mature her a bit but i know what will happen she will come in season the day before our first ferreting trip its bound to happen sods law!!
  9. totally agree with you Neal my little bitch has not come into season yet at 15 months which is a bit odd but i have had trouble keeping weight on her so maybe thats linked? and she does still show a lot of immature behaviour where as the collie xs i had where quicker to mature
  10. my lads 19 now and mad for it its all he goes on about. it has been our saving grace over the teenage years as we have had some rows but when all comes to all we still go out with the dogs and ferrets and we are back to normal again. however there was one memorable massive argument when out ferreting when i left him to walk the 20 miles home. it was either that or kill him i havent got the best of tempers. after an hour or so i went back and picked him up. kids grow too quickly make the most of the easy years lads and lasses. i can remember the last time my lad held my hand he was 11
  11. a good walk to the kebab shop keeps my lot fit and having a 19 year old son who is bionic and thinks nothing of walking for 3 hours at a time!!
  12. Now then cooper good to see you back on again its been a while. When you say started running clever on the rabbits what was the problem?
  13. Funny you should say that the organisation i work for seem to think its the norm the bunch of b*****ds.
  14. I have owned and worked two collie xs in the past and have a kelpie x now which at 15month is still a long way from the finished article. The collies were bright and biddable if a bit sensitive. the kelpie is a twat Full on little dog wants to be on the go all day and doesnt settle on a night and if there is nothing to do she stands and barks at the horse in the paddock even though she is fine with horses. she also plays with bits of stone twigs throwing them around and catching them just always on the go. out bushing she works flat out pays attention gets the idea and is a joy to own.
  15. i use a whistle with the lurchers, but i have a gundog background and find its best to have them all on the same commands. i dont know how true its is about lurchers only needing a few commands though i suppose it depends on the work they do a lamping dog needs to run catch and return, day time dogs need to hunt up, respond to hand signals, they need to stay or wait at a hedge or fence before entering another field without you, sit and down are always handy, heel is great when walking between sets, getting a positive mark at a set is brilliant, jumping is a must when you have a box a
  16. I know how you feel mate i like the bike for bringing on the dogs fuitness but i never know whats enough, i have a big gundog that i worry im pushing too hard but the bugger just comes back for more. lurchers just eat the road work, they can go on all day. 10 months is young but i suppose it depends on her breeding and physical maturity, i had my little bitch out on the bike at that age she coped fine
  17. good knuckle and full of potential they look fit and fed well done mate
  18. look on here how many lurchers are swapped sold or moved on even at young ages. i dont agree with it, a dog is with me for life. no matter what it or my own short comings are its a working relationship. the very best analogy i have come across is that of tool box dogs taken out and used to hunt then disposed of whenever the owner suits. im not soft i am not very liberal monded but i do have a love and compassion for my dogs. every dog with the right up bringing gives 100% of its potential. dogs are a much maligned species and being partnered with the human race does them no favours
  19. Bawless i can take your shite because you have a sense of humour and you carry the topics well but nasty fuckers just get on my nerves, i find ignorance and arrogance poor bedfellows. im not angry at the topic subject but at the constant manipulation by this eejit of the site and its members. i hate bullys. roll on the season so i can come on here and talk dogs!
  20. This c**t hound dog is just lighting the blue touch paper and standing back to watch other people fight and argue on...what sort of f*****g misfit is this guy???? tried to pm this nutter and he has taken that option away. he is out to cause disruption wether he is a nasty anti or a policeman i dont know but he is very good at mind games. Dont talk to the f****r he enjoys winding you up.
  21. This little bitch just under 23" @ 15 months old, she was out a few times at the latter end of the season, but will be mainly used for ferreting and bushing this year.
  22. im always interested in the more unusual mixes it will be good to see how they come out
  23. WR there are nearly more breeds in that mix than the kennel club have registered
  24. not many bloody labs and especially springers will stop either, and ive seen loads especially when beating and that includes keepers dogs and some very expensively trained dogs
