    For me a dog that holds in the net is essential with an arthritic spine and after knee surgery this year im not up to diving on netted rabbits. the little bitch i use has quickly learned to hold and let go as soon as ive got the rabbit she doesnt mouth the rabbit never tore a net and so far this season we have been out 3 times and accounted for over 100 rabbits. she covers bolters really well and at 17 months is like an old hand, she caught 3 out of the same bolt hole one after another as we were lifting netted rabbits so she has worked the process out.She does tip toe around the set which dri

    some days its just being out and about in beautiful countryside with my lad and the dogs sitting at lunch time having a bit crack but its more than anything watching a dog ive known from being a tiny pup mature into a first class working dog every muscle taught in anticipation, head cocked, paw up waiting for the bolt and seeing that dog fly off at the break and snatch that rabbit before he even makes the first bend. i dont care if we catch two or twenty two

    ours can be and are kennelled outside if need be. but i built a dog room in my workshop which has a food prep area a sink and hot and cold water as well as a raised bench bed with heating underneath it. i was thinking of putting curtains up but cant decide on the material yet!!!! i did all of this as we have had a dog theft attempt in the past. my macho son has at this minute got his saluki x lying flat out on his bed as its got a sore paw!!

    We were out as well not as hot up here today and we had to work hard for the 15 we got bloody knackered today. being on good ground really brings the young dogs on, plenty of oppurtunity to learn. Good pics nice looking dogs

    Good write up mate its great to get the young dogs out and working, she will do you proud. She looks remarkably like my little bitch maggie a kelpie x. stick at it bud maggie has been out maybe 6 times now 3 times in march and the last 3 over the past few weekends have been clearing out a new forestry plantation site heaving with rabbits where she has picked up a lot of experience. last week she caught three bolters on the trot today she hammered the rabbits and even managed a full retrieve all the best mate Keith

    i dont want to pay the money for a set chid and i wanted to see if he could make one that works as well as the debens and for how much because i think the profit margin must be huge, it was just a point of interest and a bit of a f**k about but thanks for your input.

    One of my customers works in electronics and i asked him if he could make a locator and set of collars for me. He said he would look into it this week and get back to me. just wondering if anyone has had a home made set before and if so any tips?

    terriers can be good one day and little b*****ds the next they are all mad i prefer a lurcher collie blooded if possible they seem to take to the sport better than most although whippets are excellent as well

    why doesnt this get in the papers?? when will people wake up hunting is natural we keep numbers controlled we dont exterminate we rely on game to be around so that we conserve our sport for the future

    thanks John and lofti. Trevs ferrets were spot on he doesnt keep rubbish that lad. I havent known him long John but he is a kind and genuine bloke and his missus is a star. your a lucky bloke getting out with him. hopefully fingers crossed we can all get out this season.

    Its shooting season the landowners want poachers off the land so why not get an article in the papers condemning them. farmers around wher i have been today are crying out for rabbit control but the landowner and his keeper wont allow it because they want to keep poachers as they see it out. its all a matter of control yes and that article is 99% bollocks, jesus it makes all look like blood lust crazed lunatics

    Today was a bit special me and my son and maggie went back to the landed gentrys land, we were there two weeks ago and took 36 rabbits off then and had a good day. Jet my lads saluki x is laid up after a session on the lamp on Friday the ground is very hard up here and rough going as the fields have just been harrowed but the big lad retrieved two shot foxes and picked up a couple of rabbits he is flying, at 3 years old he has just come into his own.Just a couple of scuffed paws he will be fine in a couple of days.     it all depends on what you want to do mate and what your ambitions are but if i was a young lad starting out i would give it a go, why not put it on the forum and see what others say?

    i prefer the purse nets with a pup but the cover is still high so maybe the long net is the way just you will lose a few with the pup bouncing around, it is funny to watch though
