  1. That little black one is a cracker, i bet its a little live wire?
  2. i have a garage/workshop built onto the house so i made a dog room in it stud walled and insulated, got a raised 7'x 3'bed with heating underneath. Stainless steel food prep bench, pot sink with hot and cold water. all four dogs live in there and occasionally if our lass isnt speaking i get in with them
  3. tophunter mate these look lovely pups, funny have they all got the bitches ear carriage? my kelpie x is with a grew bitch so your pups will be taller than mine who stands at 22". But if my experience is anything to go by you will have a very dynamic x on your hands. they are bred for work and by god they live for it. good luck with your pups.
  4. Should make good dogs in the right hands. All dogs are different obviously but mine hasnt been easy she is fine to train dead easy a bit head strong but she has all of the attributes of a good working dog. but she is shite with other dogs and strange people she took a snap at one of our neighbours the other day a woman she has known all her life i cant work it out? But for a first cross she is very quick and she can run allllllllll day
  5. buzzards wont take a live hare they are scavengers and if they try to they not guuna keep hold of it because the talons arnt strong enough
  6. Steady WR i see a new future puppy perhaps??????
  7. Its great fun, try it eating hares??
  8. Did they eat the hares i would guess the ferrets or the dogs got them
  9. That will be a switched on cross it will need some good handling to get the best out of them. good luck with the sale mate
  10. Winter's only just started mate... i know mate but we are forecast a thaw as the week progresses and maybe i can get the van down the lanes that lead to my permission at the minute unless your in a 4x4 its the main routes only
  11. your lucky to have a couple of inches even with a couple of days thaw we still have 12" all over.Off work today as i tried to do a full back flip on the ice yesterday at work landed on my head slight concussion whiplash and a battared back. I saw stars, birds, fireworks and my life flashing before my eyes roll on the thaw
  12. Heard recently of some intrepid hunters taking hare in this deep snow, apart from being illegal surely its un ethical there would be an argument to say that the hares caught would not have survived the winter anyway but surely on this 12" thick powdery snow even a strong hare is limited severly!! i dont understand the way some people think and to me it seems the lurcher world is full of this mentality.
  13. The pup is establishing its place in the pack this needs sorting now before it does bite. as above be firm but fair but take his food off him as he eats and floor him (Dog whisperer style)if he so much as growls. no need to beat him just let him know he is the lowest of the pack. but never trust a dog with kids anyway i have four dogs and a two year old grandson all the dogs are kennelled when he comes around
  14. i have permission where the rabbits just wont bolt the buggers creep out and one ferret means they just run around playing hide and seek. this land sees an awful lot of human activity so this must affect the rabbits decision to bolt, (Well its all i can think of) but without at least two ferrets in even 5 holers i wouldnt see much sport
  15. i worked with a lad in ireland during the 80s he had an enormous almost pure greyhound and it caught regularly 30 + rabbits on the lamp and my lads saluki cross at 27" takes them easily enough
  16. i have no experience with saluki before ive got the one ive got yah just need to do some research and have patience
  17. my first dog is a 3/4 saluki grey as many of you have seen in my dads pics it was training the bloody thing but hes a beutiful dog and has took some time training him but i stuck to me guns and kept goin with him and he does everthing from ferreting, lamping to a good old course and i would have no other breed of lurcher or long dog as these dogs look awsome when they run good luck and all the best chose your pup carefuly
  18. tend to agree with long dog mine all look like mini polar bears they have that much coat i doubt it was the cold just mother nature
  19. Nowt!! ive enough to bloody carry without a hip flask and packets of biscuits
  20. Ive had enough of snow its no fun trying to walk the dogs in 18" it goes over the top of me wellies!!!

    1. byron

      byron

      thighboots my friend....lol....

  21. dont see the point in running yah dog in the deep snow as the quarry carnt even run properly so there for it isnt even sport im waiting for the snow to melt which could be a long time but im not gunna go round killing all the local quarry when they dont run decent so therfore i will keep to me ferreting in the snow for now. there will be nowt left if people hammer everything in the snow because its that easy ! this is not stroller its his son
  22. dont see the point in doin them in snow its not sport at all as i found out for my self the other day fair enough if the snow it just about layering the feilds but doing them in deep snow yah just killing good sporting stock off for when the dog can run them properly. and this is not stroller its his son
  23. My little dog is a bit too keen at times making puts at rabbits sitting in the hole which can be annoying but she has also started pulling rabbits out of sets before they hit the nets which is a first for me. she generally tip toes about the big sets but i try to make her stand off the hole a bit to allow a bolt. she is still learning and i do sometimes lose my temper with her wandering to close to hole mouths but generally we are both forming a good partnership. the last twice out i have had her on the otherside of the hedge covering nets and i think she has got the idea ok. but at 19 mon
  24. Most europeans cant stand the rag heads after working with them but if you were there for a short time it was maybe different. i lived and worked in Riyadh and found it one of the most exasperating experiences of my life. lovede the weather though and made some lovely friends (ex pat)
