  1. A couple of weeks ago i lost a little silver jill then a couple of days later i got her back unharmed and she is in the court now chewing a dead pheasant. before i lost her i noticed she was killing in more and more not staying with the kill but coming out bloodied under chin. She seems to be developing a method of killing quickly. she isnt a fast worker just takes her time but she must flash into life down there. She is 3 /4 year old now and always been a pleasure to work. Im reluctant to take her out now without a collar and ive accepted its time to move with the times, just wondered if a
  2. Something that she can make mistakes with and it will forgive her, so not a collie x or a bull x as they are too big. A terrier x or a grew would do well
  3. why not touch the bulb with hands? i touched it and it works perfectly when i put a new bulb in my striker
  4. thank you for all the comments just shows there is some decent people on here

  6. i was out walkin the dog mate and ginger fella got in his way just out the back of my house i was lucky it was there cos if i were any further away he would of bled to death he lost alot of blood anyway the vets carnt realy say what will happen with his leg there could be nerve damage but even if there isnt it could take 6month to a year to heal properly but it might not heal properly fingers crossed mate it would be a shame as to watch this dog run is very good to watch ive had many good days with this dog on the feild.
  7. he sittin in his cage with a big duve wimpering he soon stops when i get in with him the big soft arse but all is good hes putting weight on it fingers crossed he will be ok. little pic of him doin what he loves
  8. this is strollers son Jet is back home with us today hes all stiched up and he drugged up to the eyeballs the leg is realy swollen but i think he is goin to be ok but he may have to be retiered but we will have to wait and see its goin to be a long and slow rocevey for him. i realy appreciate all the comments made me feel loads better. this dog is my pride and joy im just glad that its not worse than it is hes a very lucky dog.
  9. just off the phone from the vet he is out of the op ok. he has some muscle tissue and skin missing they have pulled it all together and put a drain in. They are concerned he has damaged the nerve and might have difficulty using the leg properly but we wont know until he starts using it how badly he is affected. its a releif he has made it so far and Josh has come around ok. The hardest part of being a parent is that you cannot put a plaster on the hurt unseen Thanks for your thoughts and prayers
  10. Im writing this through tears. Earlier today my sons dog jet hit what we think was a broken down barbed wire fence between large hawthorn. The dog has been terribly injured and my lad is traumatised and i feel a bit wobbly myself. Jet is in the vets now we dont know the extent of the damage to his front leg yet it doesnt appear broken just heavy tissue damage it all depends on tendons and ligaments but the wound is enormous and my son did very well to get him home and applied pressure to stop the bleeding as best he could, The decision if there is one to be made will be my lads to mak
  11. It probably is a wart but it couldnt be a tick could it? i know its winter and ive never seen one on a mouth before but its worth checking
  12. Watchman: i would mate but its f****d around here too many kids slaughtering everything that moves summer spring, autumn and winter. The deep snow we had saw a lot of stuff getting hammered by very mediocre dogs.
  13. ive been looking forward to a day out all week, so when i saw the forecast last night i was determined to get out even though rain was due. When i got up it was light rain, boxed up the ferrets and got them and mags in the van and headed off 10 mins into the journey it lashed down still undeterred i arrived half an hour later in gale force winds and torrential rain. I thought bugger it in for a penny in for a pound. but honestly by the time i got loaded with the gear i was drenched. got on the ground mags put a few sitters up but the where just yards from safety. I tried to put nets d

  15. you know your stuff you lot, very informative. I dont use traps as im a ferret and dog man (just visiting) but i know they have their place. great read while i have had my bacon sandwhich and cup of tea. im off to box up the ferrets and go and do a bit
  16. Its the idea of a ferret in a minging cage that turns my stomach they are such clean little things. and i know after ive cleaned out the court especially if i renew the bedding in the kennel they go mental running about and investigating it all. To be covered in shit is pure neglect
  17. Do many people have ferrets running around the house? I wouldnt fancy a ferret smelling house. im sure they are entertaining but it takes all sorts i suppose. The ferret eating the fingers seems a bit suspect surely a ferret would kill the child first before eating it? It sounds to me there is a child cruelty case being covered up
  18. probably best to let a lad with at least one dog on to mark it saves a lot of time
  19. this is strollers son and i use bob on the moors when i go beating ive done a couple years with bob, hes an excellent dog very intellegent and he picks grouse very eaisily, great with hand signals he will carry rabbits for me for miles. every one loves bob on the shoots i go on. i have had gamekeepers come up to me and offer to buy him and a gamekeeper considered weather he should use bob to line his lab bitch. i have also used bob along side my saluki cross jet and they are brillient team he even had a go with a ginger fella and bundles through them woods shifting game left right and centre i
  20. Neil im not here to fight any corner, i can see why you got upset about the foxhound being brain dead comment i suppose i am putting them up against my dogs when i said that but hey maybe if i brought up a hound in the home it would be a biddable dog? So put me right by all means tell me about your experiences of the foxhound tell me why they arent brain dead. i have very little experience of them that was the purpose of the post was not at all to attack the breed. i can go on and on about how clever my dog is and how he constantly suprises me with how game he is and how he can work
  21. your probably right Dan ive never bred a litter so im only going off guess work They make stunning dogs get them out
  22. i have a contact who hunts im gonna see if i can get an invite down to the zetland kennels to learn a bit more about the foxhound and how they train them. Cooney your an arse Dan using big bob would mean i wouldnt get a fast enough cross until the 2nd breeding the first cross would be a powerful coated dog with certain uses im sure but not what i would want. The 2nd x would be a finer specimen. Bob is really just a lab with hair Hannah thanks for putting some people right my dogs stand up for themselves ask anyone who knows them
  23. I have a friend with a Saloos (I think thats how its spelt) which is a wolf hybrid over many generations and his has very little prey drive. i suppose its how the dog is brought up but he hasnt actively discouraged its instincts he just says its crap
