  1. on good days my dog is indespensible, catching ,covering and most importantly marking. on the occasional day she is a complete twat , Still thats because dogs are living thinking beings not just tools. just enjoy the days you have together you will develop a bond that no pet owner can with his lap dog.On the bad days put it down to experience on the good days come on here and brag about it
  2. if you have permission then this is just bullying and harrassment. the police would like us all in our beds of a night. this land is a thinly veiled police state. You need to get advice from a solicitor you are not just doing it for yourself but every other hunter in the uk. We let this govt trample all over us every day
  3. Mate ive had a lot of rabbits with fat like that i think its because they are feeding on haylage put down for the horses.
  4. Pink Elephants and albino ferrets both are easy to see in brambles and hedgerows. but i love them all no matter the colour however pink elephants take a bit of getting back in the box
  5. My dog jacked on a hare so im not one to ask
  6. its not the size of the permission mate i ferreted 1 field which took me all morning and got 12 bunnies out before i decided that that was enough. Thats why i like ferreting these days it means i dont have to drag my crippled old arse around a thousand acres in the dark looking for bunnys on a lamp
  7. its an absolute must all of ours are done
  8. good write up mate i was out today as well and gutted my first rabbit with young in it just embryos but its still distasteful. however needs must and i had been asked to go up (even though there are very few on this bit) sme farmers see two rabbits and think its a plague. funny old day see my dog the anti on lurcher forum
  9. during the summer when pheasants seem to be even more stupid than usual i will stop and pick them up as often as is safe and can i just take this oppurtunity to thank Lord Barnard for this ferret feeding fare, especially as i usually have a nest full of young ferrets to feed
  10. one is enough even if they know each other you will still get jealousy. which usually ends up in a crunched rabbit
  11. WR The saluki is doing well, its still got a long way to go but he is getting about fine. i dont know if he will work again but the signs are good. the leg is a mess though there is a lot of tissue missing which makes his leg look deformed
  12. I just think she has never seen a hare before and the only thing she has been allowed to hunt has been rabbits. we live in the sticks and are surrounded by sheep cows horses ducks and chickens so i have to be strict on the dogs steadyness to stock. So being a fairly clever dog she has obviously thought twice about chasing it just in case it bit her or i shouted at her funny enough i have never been interested in hunting hares but i did wonder if she could catch one as i knew there are plenty of hares on that particular bit of permission. I guess now i know
  13. Just come in from a morning ferreting with my little kelpie x maggie. Its been the first time up on this particular bit of permission this season. there isnt a load of rabbits on it but its worth a walk round as it has some lovely reed beds and the rabbits sit out in them so the dog has a great time hunting up. So the first half of the morning was just spent walking around hunting the reed beds up she had a few good runs but didnt connect she lacks a bit height and bounces about like an antelope great to see and all good fun.We met some free range pigs about half grown and very frien
  14. if my missus allows bacon into the house its me thats getting it not the bloody ferrets!!!!! and yes i am under the thumb
  15. I hunt similair areas to you Ian and i would say the numbers are unaffected and in some areas even denser than previous years i havent seen many myxied rabbits this year at all and the ones i have seen have been recovering!!
  16. Thats just bad luck mate i run up to 7 dogs at a time at exercise on the big fields where i live and ive never had any collide like that they must have been going a helluva speed. Hope they get well and back to fitness, bugger the bunnies they will still be there next season
  17. Steve its sounds like you have a grand life mate fair play to you for having it sorted. All the best Keith
  18. I used to have an AB bitch sadly passed now. she was a lovely dog but they wouldnt add anything to a lurcher there are plenty gamer, fitter bull terriers out there. Too big and heavy and what would you hunt with it? I suppose wild boar but its probably illeagal in this country as will be breathing shortly
  19. im sure most lurchers are sighthounds and when in persuite i dont think they use the nose as much
  20. mate we were nearly at the very same situation last weekend. It breaks your heart what can i say?
  21. She has been out a few times but was a bit slower than her brother sounds like she has matured and decided to be a grown up proper ferret
  22. i thought seriously about taking up falconry a few years ago but after looking into it i realised you needed to sell your soul to the art and forsake life as you know it. plus my wife wouldnt let me
  23. Do they f**k if you have a game dog and its full on it will go through a wall to get what its after. i have a half crippled dog here 4 years old had a few run ins with wire but last sunday topped it. We are looking at a full year of recuperation and even then he may never run hard again. i have a young bitch who has hit the wire 3 times in the last year she isnt slowing down any!! They dont see the f*****g stuff when they are running at speed concentrating on lifting a rabbit, fox or coyote. Its all too fast
  24. Nice one Craig im pleased the little albino is working well for you
  25. ferret lover: I never hunt my lot hungry mate i know some people do but it has always defied logic to me, just noticed this little jill doing a lot more killing lately
