  2. stoats will have a defined hunting territory a feral ferret tends to move on. tunnel traps are the way a head (pardon the pun)
  3. Two of the young lads i shoot clays with had their sgc deferred for the same period of time. It seems to be a policy that Durham have took on themselves. But there again ive just got mine back after a break of 10 years and it only took six weeks
  4. if i could read properly i would be able to answer my own question DOH!!
  5. she is just a pup plenty of work will go a long way to helping. rabbits hit 25mph from pretty much the word go and can turn back on themselves at full pelt.not easy
  6. Bonny pups mate do the parents work? 10 pups is a helluva lot of work
  7. i think keepers often dont have the best dogs or the best advice.if you can ask them for work as a beater you will see all sorts of dog in the line and picking up ask their handlers about their dogs and watch them work, see what style will suit you.
  8. just putting out tentative feelers about the breed, i would appreciate experiences and useful info on the breed. My big dog needs an apprentice and ive always fancied a spaniel but this big breed caught my eye and im wondering now?
  9. just come back from a bit of permission ive been ferreting for several years. Ive just got my shotgun cert back after turning it in when my shooting pal died 10 years ago bless him. ive bought a little moderated baikal 410 as i do a lot of ferreting around stables and i thought a moderated gun would work well where i cannot get in to net. so with a couple of different sizes of cartridges to try it out i ventured forth as there are plenty of rabbits about in rushes and nettles and i had cleared all this with the landowner. Now in all the years ive wandered this bit with the ferrets and the
  10. oh for fucks sake i just bought a baikal 410 hushpower yesterday just my b*****d luck i would have bitten your arm off for this!!!!!!!!
  11. ive just bought a baikal 410 hushpower. with normal loads its not remarkably quiet ive yet to try the sub sonic loads
  12. a barretta in disguise well i can always use that when shooting clays with the money men ;0)
  13. This looks like a cheap and cheerful type of gun anyone had any problems with them?
  14. I like my dog with the sense to know not to hit cover, i spent too much money last season getting both of them stitched up. she has learned this summer to lay off what she wont catch. if you want your dog to do or die its up to you but i would like a few seasons out of my dog before its knackered
  15. ive worked lurcher and gun side by side on many occasion, and i will never forget my cur crashing through ice on a partially frozen pond to retrieve a duck whilst two well bred spaniels tippy toed around the edges. as for organised shoots ive seen many a gundog turn into a lurcher when a rabbit bolts
  16. Maggie kelpie x grew 2 year old Not a cross for the faint hearted she is hard work, and she never relaxes. she is a great gaurd dog and has taken in the last couple of weeks pheasant, duck, and a waterhen out of the air. spot on little rabbit dog (Although she missed one she should have had easily this morning by trying to out guess it). she takes day time rabbit easily enough. ive never bothered with foxes she is only about 22" to the shoulder but if there was one at my chucks i would think she would have it and probably the chickens as well!! She isnt the
  17. it was just apart of the pit village life, young lads hunted, fished, bred poultry and kept pigeons. Dogs and ferrets where always around. We had a black and white telly with nowt on it worth watching. life was bit simpler 40 odd years ago
  18. i live in Durham and i so wish you lived a bit closer!! either one of those little chaps would be an ideal gift to me. and it would definately be a working home my big dog is 6 and needs an apprentice.
  19. elephant testicles fed in small portions but regularly
  20. she is a bit young for all of that mileage mate in my opinion, at 10 months she is still growing and she hasnt matured physically. just be careful too much now can lead to problems
  21. all of the choclate labs ive seen have been wired to the moon, i havent seen any on the shoots i work on but that doesnt mean they dont work as others have said do your homework. also ask the breeder about hip scores of the parents and i think they are testing for elbows and eyes these days as well. it could save you a lot of heart ache in the future
  22. thats shocking for her to go so young, i hope you arent hurting too much
  23. Great post thankyou for bringing back a whole host of memories, That name would make a young lad at the time dream of working in such a place amongst the stock he loved. My dad wouldnt have took me that far for a ferret he didnt approve of my "Wild ways" and used to call me a throw back (Irish travellers). but i used to read the exchange & Mart until it wore out. I had forgotten all about Abbott Bros. Thanks again
