  1. It raises the question who owns a lurcher? 1. The chop and changer, The young lad starting out who listens to bad advice and many a poor pup ends up ruined 2. The gambler its not the sport but the winning will have some good dogs but will sell on as the dog slows 3. The macho man he has the biggest nastiest dog or the fastest as soon as it jacks its gone 4. The plodder someone like me who just does a bit on the weekend but loves to see his dog work whatever its quirks 5. The pet owner someone who usually rescues abandoned lurchers 6. The breeder someone who makes money out of everyone
  2. Labradoodle mate, cracking dog :0) a gsp is bred for the moor and covers a lot of ground you would be better with a retriever they are bred fro retrieving and make good peg dogs which is more what you seem to need, if you want a bushing dog then a spaniel is best. but my old dog is a labradoodle and he does it all but im torn about having a pup from him in jan or getting a cocker
  3. buy what you want your pocket is your limit but i shoot with a baikal over and under game gun, and i shoot with lads who have spent a lot of money on the more quality makes. I cant see a difference its the bloke that points the gun that makes the difference. Remember as well on a rough shoot or bolting rabbits with ferrets if you have to keep putting the gun down would you really want to treat an expensive gun that way? Next up would be a bettinsoli then up to a browning and on upwards to a purdey when you win the lottery :0) enjoy the buying and ask as many questions as you can
  4. not having much luck mate? The albino jill you gave me has settled in fine i think i will be taking her up to Scotland for her first outing at the end of the month
  5. just as the title says really. i just want to know if anyone finds it a better cross for working and why against the pure springer or cocker?
  6. good to know she is ok, my lads dog had a bad accident last year but is up and running better than ever this year. Im sure she will be fine
  7. if you get a chance to see the young ferrets in a big pen and try and pick out the fastest most inquisitive and boldest youngster. I find this is usually a good indicator that the ferret has potential and is inquisitive. and when first entering try and pick a bury with only a few holes and doesnt look too deep, in too big a bury the youngster will tend to stay on the surface if he doesnt find straight away. but as others have said the more work they get the better they will be
  8. i know its almost impossible to tire out a spaniel but a good walk before he goes out might calm him down a bit. you have a good attitude its all about the dog and handler working together i couldnt care less if i get 1 or 500 as long as the dog has worked well
  9. didnt think that a solid colour was part of the breed spec? i would imagine a sprocker might breed solid colours. The purests might be up in arms about breeding a springer with this trait but hey whatever floats your boat
  10. labradoodles mate, The black one is bob he is my gundog and we use him beating and picking up on the local grouse moors, as well as my rough shooting., Betty the blonde one is a great bushing dog but she is the wifes dog so i couldnt train her for the gun as she didnt want a dog thats just interested in working. but sods law the little bitch just wants to work. so the wife never got her lap dog. I couldnt take her on a shoot though as she is a chaser handy dog with the lurchers though. i know they get a bad press but ive found them dead easy to train bob takes after the lab in his work.
  11. Wether the clocks go back forwards or upside down the dogs still need walked and we have 3 boarding with us at the minute 2 big labs and a young weimeraner as well as my 3. i decided to take them down the back of my house which is open countryside leading onto old pit site overgrown with scrub and gorse and hides a fair few rabbits. which is great exercise for the dogs bushing and dashing about, i can spend an hour in there just moving slowly watching the dogs work, occasionally catching site of a rabbit or the flush of an old crafty pheasent. Maggie is only about 22" and does work cover b
  12. ive been out twice and got a 15 and a 22 respectively, ive seen a bit of myxi early in july but then it dissapeared and we shot a myxi last weekend but just the one out of 22. I suppose around the outskirts of towns rabbits are going to get hammered by local lads, maybe its a combination of disease and over hunting?
  13. Just wondered who was behind the scenes? Its a well set up /run site with a lot of advertising on it, someone must be making decisions and making money presumably? I dont know how these things operate and it isnt meant as a dig at anyone just thought someone must be the head honcho ?
  14. good healthy foxes, you should get up our way and get the buggers sorted. The farmers might complain about lads lamping but if they didnt we would have twice the fox problem we have!
  15. Anybody want my arthritis for a day? just so i can get the garden tidied

  16. we get the odd one, ive had one handed into me which was obviously a lost ferret and last year there was a truly wild one an albino i couldnt get anywhere near it
  17. shot a dock leaf once could have sworn it was a rabbit bolting
  18. i havent got a photo of my first it was before cameras were invented but he was a black and white 3/4 cur with yellow eyes called jazz. Couldnt catch a hare unless it was in a wheelchair but a great lamp dog who could work all night then go out ferreting all day. good dog with the gun as well. What made him so good was that i was young hunting and shagging was all i was interested in and having red hair meant that there wasnt a lot of shagging going on So i spent a lot of time working the dog and the collie in him made him a quick learner
  19. Stunning video, and beautiful scenery. Is the dog false pointing or are the partridges running ahead of him? those grey partridge just dissapear into the terrain. We in Britain have very little experience of travelling quite so far for our sport. Do you have to pay to shoot or can you just turn up in those wild areas and have a days sport for free? What are your gun laws like in Turkey? We have to have a licence and it can be difficult to obtain from the police especially for the young men Have you had the dog from a pup? and is the enlish pointer a popular hunting dog in Turkey
  20. Thanks lads, i will have a trial and error session with some different types. but the main problem is with the bloke behind the gun!!
  21. yep its chambered for 3" and ive shot eley 3" 6s at 18gms with mixed results in fact one i shot had no shot in it!!
  22. I have a little baikal moderated 410 for shooting ferreted rabbits, Accuracy i have quickly found out is a lot more important than when using a 12g. The question is, is there a cartridge that i could use that would have a bit more stopping power. I suppose its all down to pellet content and spread but i would appreciate anyones experience and advice. Regards Keith
  23. stoat,i dont think it would survive a mink attack. im only guessing though ive never had this particular experience just know that mink are voracious little twats
