  1. Well after much debate and a lot of research i visited the Gonegos kennel in North Yorks this afternoon and spent a lovely couple of hours in the company of Roy Bebbington and his wife. Hugely knowledgable and down to earth, their dogs were a delight very laid back and responsive and a handy size. If all goes well with the breeding the pup will here in May/June. Started off looking at cockers then a quick look at GWPs then Spinone before setting my stall out for the Wirehaired vizsla. Cockers style was too busy for me and after looking after a couple of pups for different people over t
  2. yep gotta 20 + holer in the middle of a field not very deep always get a few out of it and it gives the dogs a sporting chance
  3. sit down with your back to him and ignore him. but talk to yourself in a bright happy voice. If it doesnt work you can ring me from the nut house Honestly though it works for me its all about timing
  4. yes they can but they need time to grow up and a beating line is an exciting place for a young dog, plus you will need it rock steady to rabbits and hares and perfect to the drop as you dont want it running into the guns. Most dogs get street wise after a season or two and will adapt their styles to whats needed.
  5. Socks seems to have it, ive had jills behave like this when they are in season
  6. I know mate we did a 100 mile round trip for 4 rabbits a few weeks ago, but the thing is if you dont go you will never know and maybe the next one will be the big score
  7. Thanks for the replies lads im going to put it into a gunsmith and get it sorted, i know f**k all about anything slightly mechanical and i will probably make it worse messing on with it. Its a lovely gun to handle and hopefully it will be sorted soon. Thanks again
  8. Basically it was a load of bollocks! Got 4 and a tiddler out of it but the majority of the rabbits they are seeing are coming in under a gate from an old railway line.As the garden is completely walled in bar this gate all they have to do is put some chicken wire on the gate and hey presto end of rabbit problem! Still it was a nice house and a run out, i would reckon its 3 million pound house though. How the other half live! never mind the lad who took us is going to see about getting us on another spot so it will be worth it in the long run?
  9. Any idea what causes it and is it expensive to rectify? Its just a baikal o/u but i love using it. Its been fine until lately but on wed night at the clays it started acting up and i had to stop using it for safety sake. any advice appreciated Regards Keith
  10. i have carpet in mine a leather settee and i put in a log burner but as a back up i have an oil fired rayburn, it cost quarter of a million to buy and i will be paying the mortgage when im 90 but as long as the dogs are warm enough eh!
  11. Stopped this morning for a bacon sarnie before work and a bit crack with the lads. One of the chaps is a gardener who has invited me to clear a garden of rabbits no idea of how many there are he says loads but im always wary when people say that. So fingers crossed saturday will see me and mags clearing rabbits for fun. The bloke who's house it is, is a posh london barrister who wants to pay me for the job i havent a clue how much to charge any ideas anyone? I would do it for nowt any day of the week but the bloke is insisting.
  12. i was annoyed at myself Bear i knew where i was going and didnt prepare properly the little dog saw a lot of runs but the ground was crap and i was worried her feet would take a hammering and that was all due to not having enough nets. iwas pushing my luck today and although no big catches at least maggies ok. i blame too much vodka on sat night my brain is puggled enough without clouding it with drink!!
  13. did he get a picture of the dog taking it out of the air? that would have been a good one for here. maggie hammers moorhens when they take off they are crap fliers. she has had a few ducks as well but her favourites are pheasent she will hunt them all day
  14. Champion John, struggled today to get them to bolt the ground was hard as hell maggie was all over the place trying to keep her feet. She flattened 2 running over them she had no brakes at all. only ended up with 2. 1 she caught later in the day when the frost melted and one that back netted, nice walk out though but i didnt have enough nets or ferrets to do the sets, they are twice the size of last year some of them 30 nets wasnt enough. big trev was a twat today he wouldnt stay underground at first next time your off give me a shout and we will do those roadside sets i was on about
  15. Thanks lads, well it suits me and im away out this morning to have a bash and scare some rabbits
  16. years of training mate im a professional hand model for the fashion section of Big Issue
  17. I was supposed to be out with the ferrets today but life decided otherwise! So here are some pictures of a ferret/net carrier i made a while back. I need my hands free to stop my crippled arse from falling over so the idea of my ferret back box was born. it has fully adjustable straps for the fuller figure and can be used wearing a variety of different hats takes up to 3 ferrets my tiny sandy is buried underneath her pals The lower compartment holds 30 nets or 20 and a 25m longnet The back is padded for comfort and the straps hold it stable It works as a
  18. OH THANKYOU MATE THAT HAS JUST SET ME UP FOR THE DAY Just imagining your face as all this is going on would have been priceless. Sounds like your IT is a regular on here f*****g priceless funniest thing ive heard all year thanks again
  19. ive never had that happen but i would be seriously considering the dogs future in my house. Not trying to do a dog out of a home but if it is that unstable its a liability, I had a ebt years ago that was seriously nuts and i sold it to a lad who knew it was nuts and took it anyway but it was a killer and eventually died of a brain tumour maybe it had affected the dog all its 7 years who knows
  20. mate i had a very similair day on sunday but nothing was hurt or dead just a run on technical faults and my own stupidity. Hope the dogs are all right
  21. i just feed them as normal ferrets have high metabolic rates and need a good supply of food to keep them fit. They work because they want to its their nature, sometimes im sure they back off a bottled up rabbit to chase others or even pack in and come out but i know for certain they kill in a fair amount. just like any working animal it will have its off days and good days. But why stack the odds by not feeding?
  22. dont be wary of them handle them confidently just like you would a kitten or a puppy. they are really playful in their first year and even when working they are like excited teenagers. Im amazed by some people who have had ferrets for years but are still a bit cautious/frightened of them. patience and lots of kind confident handling.
  23. mate i dropped a quarter ton of machinery on myself several years ago and im never getting better dont get me wrong im not an invalid but im in pain pretty much all day every day so do everything in your power to get yourself well and enjoy yourself as much as you can with what God left you. Well done on the foxes
