  1. He is Wolfie, do you have one as well?
  2. Not really specific gundog training related but Janos (Yanosh) got both his bronze and silver kennel club good citizen awards tonight. At 8 months old the big pup did well. As for his gundog training the dark nights have slowed things but its probably not a bad thing as he is at a very bouncy stage. Retrieving well just started splits, and is hunting well cover doesnt faze him. introduced him too shot last weekend no problems.
  3. i have a few black rabbits in the freezer they werent very lucky!! A farmer where i shoot reckons that the black colour comes out due to inbreeding? i have no idea if thats true but its a discussion point.
  4. yep done all of the above and more!! At least the dogs had a good morning
  5. We are puppy walking one on the farm at the minute a little bvitch that is kenneled with a collie pup of the same age and i can honestly say they are the numbest beasts ever, lovely nature but driven by instinct and hundreds of years of selective breeding to hunt and run not think. Fearless and game and i personally think they are beautiful animals but they belong in a pack
  6. lad on the moor picks up with one he says they are all in one day and not interested the next, my missus has a golden retriever x poodle and it is a hard hunting dog goes through cover like a demon after pheasant, but its never been trained and its a bit of a liability when out walking. I cant get on with it.
  7. Same as us the guns were manky from the soil on our hands due to the bloody spade being used every five minutes
  8. Today was the first day out with my 3 home bred youngsters and their Dad. We have been clearing out a farm lately and we decided to have a go on the open sets with the youngsters. We have taken upwards of 100 rabbits from this particular farm in the last month or two. We have just lately been lamping it with jet and maggie and taking good hauls. So we werent expecting much action. Bob my labradoodle gun dog was designated hole marker/retriever as the sets are on a steep gill side and running up and down it all day is bloody hard work.I had the 410 and my lad the franchi 12g. I had been up
  9. Not really Wilf an old wives tale, you have to pick your early retrieves with care. pigeons are best wrapped in a couple of elastic bands, until the young dogs used to them. I always think retrieving is a bit of a black art and until my young dog is picking everything up willingly im holding my breath in case something goes wrong. Each know their own dog, my viszla is retrieving dummys easily and really keenly at 7 months old but he is just a massive puppy months away from mental maturity so his introduction to cold game is a few months away yet just in case i cause a problem by overfacing hi
  10. alarmed locks and security lighting on my back garden and a 410 with no 6 shot out the bedroom window and when your lying on the floor covered in shot i will sell you to my 6 foot ten homosexual neighbour who will stretch youre arse hole so you can shit apples
  11. if its in between 8 and 15 foot the bugger will be stopping there until it moves a bit closer the spade
  12. i have a friend with one its been easily trained so far, its a big powerful pup it must be 25" at the shoulder at 7 months. loves the water and is a mad keen retriever. sadly it will never be a gundog she just wants to show it and its a good housepet. im not sure how much she paid for it
  13. saw one 15 years ago good hunter but seemed a bit headstrong
  14. i use one regularly and have shot clays with it as well as flighting pigeon and ferreted rabbit, it does improve your shooting skills the thought of wasting cartridges keeps your mind focused :0)
  15. its like shooting a drainpipe i know, but it would probably be cheaper to get and old single barrel 410 rather than buy a new barrel they are as cheap as chips
  16. put your complaint in writing to the head vet, and then threaten to take it to the Royal college of veterinary Surgeons. They have dealt with this situation stupidly. Their mistake from the word go and are taking you for a muppet
  17. £45 on the grouse moor but as said i would do it for nothing
  18. i have a little ferret somebody can have if they want it its rubbish. it wont mix it with a rabbit ive seen it run over by a bolting rabbit. Its 2 years old and the only reason i havent shot it is im too soft. So if anybody wants a pet or breeding stock please by all means come and get it.
  19. i have a stealth i use it as often as i can its lethal on ferreted rabbits and its more than capable of 30/40 yards kill shots 30 at rabbits 40 on pigeon. lovely little gun
  20. I have a hwv at the same age, obviously a very different kind of dog but he is doing very well (Just a bit loopy)and having a lot of fun into the bargain
  21. Out clearing a farm using the ferrets and shotguns. Flash my best ferret (Its always the best one) was shot whilst underground at a depth of 8 inches from the surface, a rabbit bolted and was shot the shot carried on through the turf into a tunnel below which sods law flash was in. She had a pellet in her head bless her so i beleive it was quick, we found her using the locator. Very upsetting for myself and my lad, it was a huge old warren with a fair few rabbits in it so the sport was fast and furious but even so we were careless and so paid the price. If your ferrets are used to bolt
  22. Go to trading standards and citizens advice, you are being pissed about come down heavy or these twats will try and slip out of paying you anything
  23. She is bonny Dave, all ears and attitude! Hunting is the easy bit getting them to stop is more difficult She should be fine just dont be too hard on her they are very people orientated and a bit more prone to anxiety than the tougher minded germans The breeder of janos left his tail on for those that wanted to show the dogs as the kennel club dont accept docked dogs now. I cant see it being a problem though as he isnt a waggy tailed dog like the gsp i used to have.
