  1. Anyone who isnt a dog dealer willing to give a dog a home then there are 4 x working spaniels in the rspca kennels in Chester le street in Co Durham. The owner is in the middle of a divorce and had to give them up. Dogs are between 2 to 4 years old. I dont know any other details just been contacted by a friend who works at the kennels. Sorry mod if this is in the wrong bit
  2. Great control mate well handled, my vizsla would have told you to go and get it yourself by the 2nd stop whistle :0)
  3. Although i would never own a spaniel just because they are too much dog for me, i do love their looks and they are the bonniest puppies and this one is no exception, lovely mate good luck with her
  4. Who will exercising the dog when your away? They could do with a bit of training on how to train as well it doesnt have to be much just keep the dog fresh
  5. lovely little pup a proper chunky monkey
  6. no wonder he got sick, poor little fella trying to shoot a 16 pound gun 6 pound 7 oz?
  7. Cheers Dave we will have to do that walk soon
  8. Well i kennel mine out the way really i dont want the b*****ds barking at everything passing the house, i dont want people seeing they are there as they will go missing(Somebody tried 5 years ago), and they are out of the sun for the hot part of the day (Sometimes it is sunny in Britain honest!). We are lucky in that we have a fair bit of space so i also built an indoor kennel in my big garage which is attached to the house. it houses 4 dogs all together has a sink food prep area heating and a fridge for their meat. The missus works from home so they dont mess in there but if we are out a
  9. Cheers Greenshank he is coming on leaps and bounds which is exactly what he does well
  10. Janos passed his gundog grade 2 with merit on last Saturday. The big arse fluffed his split retrieves or he would have got a distinction. He has never got his retrieving wrong before but it was a lovely morning in Wakefield and i can only guess the sun on his back turned him into a big puppy and he started playing the fool :0) Anyway he did well enough and at 1 year old what can i expect from a pointer! On Sunday we had a training day up on Wensleydale with the Yorkshire GSP club, rabbit penwork and hunting practice on the moor. Rory Major was available for advice and we had a walk over th
  11. Good advice from Paulus, Must be difficult clearing out the old fellas gear. Good luck
  12. Yes unfortunately with my little lurcher i didnt do enough about it and now she is a nightmare barking at strange dogs and people, i cant let her off where other people are as she goes into fear/aggression mode. In fact she got me into a scuffle with a local gobshite when she ran at his dogs. I tried to do something about it when she was 2 years old and now she can walk on the lead ok in crowded places but around our village she is a b*****d. i think as she is half kelpie she gets a kick out of it she is a very intelligent little dog. Tempted to use an electric collar on her but i have
  13. Thats a canny view one i would never get tired of seeing, your a lucky man
  14. The lads have been out cutting rides since beginning of march but my first day working will be thurs burning some of the branches off and stacking others, I was supposed to be up wemmergill last sat for a grouse pointing trial but the bugger was cancelled due to 5 foot drifts! we have had a bit but the tops were hammered. I just hope it warms up shortly so we can get the pedigree lambs out of the shed they will be inventing ways to die otherwise
  15. i have seen setters work with peregrines and they covered huge distances looking for birds much more than a hpr breed would normally do. But on a keepered moor with a high density of birds they wouldnt have to go so far and if brought up to work closer then im sure they would.
  16. Tell all the doubters to f**k off mate i have an 8 year old labradoodle (The dog in my avatar) who is a pleasure to work and he has pissed off a few gundog men as he is a very good dog. starts in august on the moor and finishes 1st of feb on our rough shoot, he isnt perfect as im not a brilliant trainer but he works hard and is an honest dog. his mother was a working lab his dad was a white standard poodle. Bob is a very powerful dog he can jump the moon and work all day in any weather and he enjoys a cuddle and has the beaters shed in kinks of laughter as our lass has taught him all s
  17. Sorry mate i would need more background on the dog before i could offer help
  18. is she a working cocker? has she been a pet and you have just got her? or have you had her from a pup?
  19. There is obviously no right answer to this argument as we all have our favourites ive seen a lot of good springers and labs and very few really good pointers but before im shot down about that statement its purely because there arent too many about and we are really only begginning to understand hprs and how to get the best out of them. I watch teams of pickers working with their dogs and the banter exists between the teams is part of the day. You know what you fancy and what your comfortable with so just go with your head give the dog as much experience as you can and you will get a good thin
  20. Bonny pups mate are they pure bred labs?
  21. I wonder why they have got so big my young dog is already 2" bigger than the standard and he is only 11 months?
  22. Can you not just shoot the baboons? From a safe distance with a 50 cal machine gun ;0). They were becoming a problem in some parts of Saudi when i was there in the 90s, where they were kept as pets when small then released when there teeth became as long as carving knives. Powerful pack animals i wouldnt like to meet a pissed off adult face to face
  23. f**k that i wouldnt go out if my dogs were getting killed left right and centre!!! I will stick to rabbits and even then i feel sorry for the ferrets if they get a kicking :0)
