    I run wirehaired vizlas and ive seen one or two half decent weims but the Swedish stock is excellent

    clicker train the dog. its a completely different approach. find a dog trainer who does it and learn,

    I have two that have had young at the same time and ive splt them up from the youngsters as the kits are weaned and need handling. one jill is fine the other bites the handle of the muck shovel I have to use to stop her attacking my hand. She will be fine in a few weeks. They are amazing little b*****ds

    Brittany is an hpr breed fast and furious and they don't miss much but you need to be training them before they are born as they are dynamite. Clumbers are slow and steady spaniels. Totally different jobs in the purest sense but with good handling the bittany can do the lot

    I have two one is just 6 months the other 4 year old. Cant fault them they just need loads of work

    I use my wirehaired Vizsla when we are shooting ferreted rabbits, he marks holes and works the rushes before we start ferreting. He sits and doesn't chase when rabbits bolt and he does get to retrieve most of them. He has been known to chase rabbits in the beating line but I don't make a huge thing over it and 9 times out of 10 I can stop him no bother. He is rock solid on hares and deer and we often stand on shoot days with roe deer running past us and on the moor during the grouse season he just watches hares away

    stop letting him hunt and chase he is only 6 months old you have no real control of him yet or are you ever likely too if you keep training him this way. Brittanys are the worst offenders at hunting up and going deaf. At his age he needs loads of fun retrieving practice and fun obedience. you are rushing and will end up with a pest of a dog flushing everything in the next county. Work towards entering to hunting seriously at 18 months

    I have never seen one work and even show/pet dogs are pretty uncommon in the North east at least

    if you change all of your commands/training ground etc and really think about it you should get a workable dog. Take her to a trainer and learn how to get what you want

    I know people who shoot and use the hawk with their dogs and they have no bother

    Thunderbelly the hunt point retrieve breeds are collectively known as HPR so the likes of vizsla the germans , brittanys and the whole host of French type pointers

    I know everybody has their bias but a good HPR will work a lab or springer into the ground and do it every day! day after day after day.

    Yes mate he does not as close as a spaniel but he is within 30 yards and I can stop and turn him on the whistle if I want him to work closer. He is never out of control. I think he just likes to be in contact but I play to this by calling him in now and then to work a bit of cover for me and I think that exercise means he is expecting my commands

    mate I have a wire haired vizsla who will be 4 in march and he still plays with some of his retrieves (Dummys and cold game) but he is mint on shot stuff. He flushes like a spaniel in the wood but as the cover opens up he points I have never taught him to do this but it makes him a very versatile dog. He gets a lot of work and im a firm believer that the more controlled work they do the better they get. I haven't trialled him yet as he is sensitive around crowds of people

    I always think Casso responses are a bit long winded and very wordy but his post is spot on as how to get a good down. She will get it mate just plug on

    They are a full on breed mate and will not be as calm as your whippet but if you have the time and patience they make good house dogs.If I were you I would find someone who works and trains the breed near you before you get one Working trials during the summer field trials are during the shooting season

    mix it up with the tennis ball and make it a great game, I ask mine to pick up everything from plastic bottles hats gloves their lead etc and I play take and give. my young dog will sit all night while I watch telly giving a toy and taking it back

    Thanks for your kind words lads. She basically gutted herself and damaged her back leg it was horrendous and I hope to God I never see that again

    This a sad little obituary for my little lurcher Maggie, She was injured badly this morning during exercise after a lazy jump over barbed wire. The decision wasn't an easy one but it had to be made. Everyone who knew Maggie knows she wasn't a pleasant dog she was an adrenalin junky and ran at million miles an hour even when she was sleeping due to her Kelpie ancestors. She was a bully in kennels and a horror towards strangers (She actually instigated a fight between me and a local dick head). She had a good life for all of that she worked and hunted with the best of them and earned her place

    Whatever you want the dog wont mind! I use multi pips for recall, 2 pips for change of direction and 1 pip for stop open arms for recall, arm pointing whichever way for change and raised hand for stop Pretty standard stuff

    I still wouldn't have it, not writing it off but if I had a chance of buying a well brought up pup or one that had just sat in a kennel without a name I know which one I would pick. I deal with rescue dogs all the time and have fostered many. as for not doing anything with a pup until its 10 months that's a load of shite
