  1. this has gotta be a joke...... why a joke??????????????????? because a mastiff has to be an overdone, fat dog with a lot of useless skin hanging down each and everywhere? i am glad that i don't own such a modern show crap mastiff!
  2. you are right, that's also a good idea, as todays mastiffs are the most ruined breeds! p.s. two nice dogs in your avator.
  3. yes, mate i have also thought about getting another EM, to rpoduce some more proper EMs as they are rare nowadays. i wanted to try something out, with said that i wanted to try to get a big dog with the same attitude my dog has, but to add prey drive. p.s. with alaunt, do you mean the "plummer alaunt" (the one that is a greyhound x bullmastiff x ebt cross) so do they have good guarding instinct? i am asking, because the web is full of dogs getting called alaunt. american alaunt, plummer alaunt etc.
  4. yes, you are right with the pain tollerance. it had to come from the mastiff, but u cannot be sure which traits the offspring will have, so maybe to be sure it will be a tought dog, a sighthound x ebt x mastiff, would be better. 25% sighthound 25 ebt and 50% mastiff so it could be barzoi, deerhound or greyhound x ebt and the result (best dogs of that cross) x mastiff p.s. thank you a lot for your suggestions.
  5. mate, a good guard dog is not aggressive without a reason. when i say he is not people friendly, it doesn't mean he attacks people! it just means he is very distrustful towards strangers and he doesnt accept to be petted by strangers. by the way he would not bite a kid or bark at a kid coming. so he really makes a difference there which also shows taht he is intelligent. so would you say that in general or in almost all cases a dog with the typical guardian traits cannot be used for hunting. (i know most guardians dogs are to heavy for that, but that's not the point, i am just speaking about
  6. thank you for your advice mate. yes, my boy is pain resistant. it was bitten once by two other dogs and one bit his nose, but he had no problem with that, made no noise and fought on agaisnt both. what is the advantage between Barzoi, Deerhound, Greyhound, American Staghound, or Australian Staghound in such a mix. which dog has the most to offer? i guess the American Staghound is still used more for hunting large game than the barzoi, but maybe i am totally wrong.
  7. so which pain resistant & tough sighthound would you suggest for a cross ?
  8. let's hope you will not be too sarcastic like i have mentioned before he is a very good dog. he doesn't like to get touched by each and everyone, especially he will not allow strangers do that, so he is not the dog-show-guy lol for the offspring i would like to maintain his attitude, so that they also will make great guard dogs, but i would like to add prey drive and athleticsm. so which pain resistant & tough sighthound would you suggest for a cross ?
  9. p.s. i have heard of boerboel sighthound crosses, so maybe it could work with an EM too.
  10. i have an english mastiff and he is pretty much old school in temperament. he is not people friendly when it comes to strangers, he has a very distrustful and reserved attitude. so he is a real deal guard dog! i like the way he is, but i intend to breed him to another breed next time. my goal is to keep his distrustful attitude for the offspring, but to get some prey drive, so that the offspring could catch a boar, or lets say if it is fast enough, to have the right attitude also for boar hunting. we all know that the great dane aka german mastiff was a dog like i have described it right no
  11. i have an old fashioned cam instead of a digi cam, but i can try and scan one pic later. ;-)
