  1. I can appreciate horses for courses and I wouldn't part with a whippet that was a good rabbiting dog that refused teeth. BUT.... I would rather a dog that would give a good account of its self on Fox, and if I had the choice between two stud dogs, all things being equal in regards to rabbiting I would choose the dog that wasn't shy of teeth over one that was . But that's just me, each to their own .I'm talking breeding pure whippet x whippet of coarse. I can understand that. lol. That's not how t.h.l works. We're meant to disagree on literally everything and then carry on like a pair of kids

  3. Don't need fire in its belly to catch food. My bitch,,,,,stands back from teeth........and the only teeth she comes across are squirrels....., although she's a lurcher.
  4. Id breed if it didn't take teeth......would not want it to..using wrong dog for job. Whippets struggle with an average size fox...get the job done right....that's my opinion. Cracking exciting little hunting dogs, but not quick dispatching dogs.
  5. 1,.....I'm making a right balls up of cutting tbg, I'm using 45mm roller in new bladegreen mat and what seems a half decent metal ruler. The band sometimes seems to snag/ gather up or I tend to roll off on a tangent. Any tips? ( I did see a fella...not sure if it was Suffolkslingshots or similar on YouTube use a roller that fits in the grooves / track of a ruler....that seemed spot on, but as usually comes at a cost). 2,...... If I was to buy a lead ball mould which size would you recommend for pheasant and odd rabbit......., something that would suit not too heavy band set up......a
  6. Cheers......definitely be simpleshot
  7. Had some regatta waterproof breathable trousers.......about £10-£15, had some right hammer.....really good.
  8. Might go for it...not sure what I'm going to order yet.... Cheers all
  9. Anybody know much about import charges? So I was wondering if I ever fancied buying something from simpleshot in America what charges should I expect . Do you get charged per item or for the full cost etc. If anybody is clued up on it can you shine some light on it because I don't have a clue. Cheers
  10. Cheers paul catapult.....some useful information there, I think I will definitely move over to lead for hunting. Might save and buy some moulds.....should be able to get hold of some old lead pipe to melt down. For taking general one for the pot stuff what size lead would you go for and bands to match?
  11. I've never used tapers, but I will definitely give it a go. Cheers
  12. Nah....those American whippets look different.....surely it's not just me that can see this......not that it's a bad thing....not knocking them. I am pretty familiar with whippets.......mine was a proper hard little whippet from show lines...( I'd def have a show line whippet for working)...I don't fall under the spell of all the sooty Sam Sales talk......I've seen plenty with signs of bull in them. I'm a bit out of touch with them now, but I bet some of the best workers still come from show lines......wasn't Laguna and banatay or something good in their day.
  13. No.....it was a honest question......was the length of the more straight back that got me thinking
  14. Cheers, what setup do you use game Rooster?
  15. Different in shape to British coursing whippets?
  16. I've been on and off with the catapult and need to get into the habit of carrying it with me when mooching with the dogs. I have what I think is called the scout catapult which came with flat latex bands, I moved to theraband when the latex wore. I would like advice on what band set up you would recommend for hunting pheasants pidgeons squirrels etc.....I would probably be using 9.5 steel balls...tubed or flat bands etc. Thanks
  17. Nice pups.....fancy the grey one with grey n white eye patches.
  18. Wirralman....@ "Wuyang, I take it the veiled comment was aimed at me about my lad and its a fair comment but like all young lads, even at 23yrs old he has read all the bullish*t in the books and seen my pics of collie/greys from the past and thought that was what he was buying into, nobody listens to their dad when they are young but now at last after seeing me proved right he has seen sense and bought something decent to run in any company, they have to see for themselves, and that is why so many still go back to him,Nostalgia of the dogs we had and worked but these are a far cry from the st
  19. I once said I would never go back to hancocks....... then I went down the shooting news route.....gumtree route etc......soon changed my mind. I miss going on the colliecurs forum,,,, there were a few of hancocks bitches on there that I had a soft spot for. I forgot the sire, but he was knocking out a few good rabbiting bitches,,,,,beardie and border in there.
  20. How come only Hancock gets pulled up for breeding shite. 95% of the sire and dams that people use to breed lurchers are generally shite. People who go to hancocks these days ( when there's plenty of research you can do before hand on line about his dogs and people who have used them) only have themselves to blame if there unhappy.......that's the way the world works. And as far as people who have been hunting most of there life and them are there children buy them why bloody complain.......when obviously there are better things out there. Bloody hell Hancock deserves a bloody
  21. . The dog I had with border and beardie in its breeding was a different dog completely to the straight border collie cross. I often use to refer to him as nose down eyes up because that's what he did best....out and out hunting dog. Rarely injured and saying this I had to close my eyes when he was chasing towards a hedge.......god knows how he never knocked himself out or worse. He's been caught up in barbed wire, also had himself more or less hanging from it on a fence,,,very little injury......proper robust dog......, I never bothered with fox, but he was fox mad...yet he was the mos
  22. Can't remember what mine was ( maybe deben ) Christ the beam was tight.
  23. He does 5/8 grey 3/8 collie but not 5/8 collie 3/8 grey My fault that's what I meant......he did used to do the odd reverse cross though......I think?
