  1. Oh, best of luck. I'm not in your area but sippise thieves could go anywhere so will keep my eyes open for you and ask around. Really hope you find him soon. Ruth
  2. how did you get on you not said mate did you have it done can you tell us anything Hey mate we haven't done the test yet - he's taking his time over it lol!!! Will post again and let you know when it's done, and what the result was
  3. He's gorgeous! It's nice to see his retrieving too. Best of luck with the little one, Nik.
  4. Thanks both of you! Funnily enough, she'll go on any surface once she's out of the run but will try putting in some different surfaces just to see if it makes a difference. She tends to get let out at the same time each day during the week, then differing times at weekends - any advice on this?
  5. Hi. My 9 month lab gives a repeated, very high pitched yap whenever she needs to toilet in her run.we can let her out but have recently been trying the 'ignore her and she'll get the idea' method. If we're out during the day though, this disturbs neighbours. Any advice?
  6. We're going to get a DNA parentage test done as we've now seen other dogs from the litter, and they look full labrador! Possible second lining...? The breeder said she was 90% sure this couldn't have occurred but worth checking just in case. Thanks for all your help on this! how you getting on with the dog mate any news
  7. KC papers aren't the be all and end all, i have a border terrier which lives near me, ugly lil thing doesn't look anything like a BT and the fella paid a big fee for the little bugger with KC papers, you must of heard of some very well bred KC cockers being "Sprockers" there are many unscrupulous breeders out there. On this particular case it is very hard to say, maybe you should do alot of research into it, ask a well known lab breeder for there opinion, as you say it could be the winter coat, looks like there is a dash of spaniel in there to me though?? Hi yes she is KC registered,
  8. I reckon that if birds aren't flushed first, they can't be retrieved On a serious note though, doesn't it depend on the breed and its function? Spaniels I would say their primary function is to find and hunt and flush game...retrievers retrieve it. Interesting thread
  9. Thanks, all of you. We thought possible spaniel too, because of her back end and face. Langouroux: She's got a very gruff bark - deep and 'manly'! I've never heard any high-pitched noises from her except a whine or two. What are your thoughts?
  10. Where did you get Fern from? She looks just like my Mirrin who's from Morpeth area - same age too. Bonny dog, looks like a great worker too.
  11. Mine were either £26 for one or £41 for them both, 2weeks apart. That was up in Durham bu my partner was quoted nearly £60 when he lived in Warwickshire and only £35 near Inverness when he worked up there! Happy new year!!
  12. My partner is a bit puzzled about his 9 month labrador, supposedly purebred. However, she bellies like a spaniel when asked to sit and stay, has a very long body with shorter legs, and VERY long fur, especially around her neck and back end, though all along her body it's dense, thick and longer than a lab's usual coat. We first noticed this in July as she began to get older,so don't think it's just a winter coat. The breeder we got her from has cockers, and had a litter of working golden retriever pups at the same time...although doesn't own a male golden. Just like your opinions on th
  13. Here's a picture or two of the little man...he's proving extremely biddable and friendly, with a fantastic nose on him. (if the pictures don't work, apologies...just follow the links instead and you should hopefully find them...) 14. I do understand as I've just got a lovely pet cocker for free who hasn't been trained as a gundog, so I'm putting in the work and time to do this. But this was all because the owner believed he had too much energy, didn't know what to do with him and his destructive tendencies, so donated him to a home where she knew his energy would go where it should. They do come along sometimes, but you have to be prepared to wait, and be VERY careful what you're getting. There is a gundog rescue in Northallerton who rehome working dogs too - not sure what they charge but they are very upfront and hone
  15. Turns out that the previous owners, not being shooting people, didn't realise the tail was docked, as only about 1/3 has been taken off. So from your replies, maybe this is a good thing on both counts! Just started training him up today and he's got a brilliant nose...pictures to follow!
  16. Thanks! you've given me loads of reasons to go ahead and get him, and I'm less worried about tail damage now. He's such a gorgeous dog...will get some pictures on here asap!
  17. I've been offered a great, but undocked 15 month cocker spaniel who is highly trained but never been worked. I'd like to work him in the future once he's been trained up but him being undocked is obviously a problem. Any advice on whether it might be ok to work him undocked but run risks, and whether it's much, much too late to dock him (suspect this is the case.) Are there any alternatives to docking that you know such as binding up the tail?
