Had a look through a friends Nikko Sterling 6 - 40 fixed mag scope the other day and have to say, for £30.00 it was brilliant! I have a Richter Optik 3-9X40 on my HW77 and previously on my BSA R10 and again, for under £50.00 it is a real winner and handles low light very well. Just found this as well: http://www.scopesdirect.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=Nikko_Stirling_Mountmaster_AO_Illuminated_3-9x50_Rifle_Scope# about £50.00

Man buggy (Well, airsoft buggy and the Jury's still out on that lot!)

As far as I can interpret, most of us, plus farmers, are doing this as a matter of course, so there seems little need for 'Countryfile Nazis' to come along and enforce it. Prime example: Farmer puts out gas guns and pigeon scarers on a Monday, pigeons take flight then acclimatise and return in a couple of days, Farmer drives tractor, quad etc in to field to scare them, again pigeons fly off and return. Finally and after a weeks damage, the shooter turns up on Saturday/ Sunday, drives and walks to desired shooting spot, giving pigeons one last chance to to leave. Pigeons clatter off, then

That's exactly my own experiences and have not had an issue yet, but not being technical I couldn't confirm it. The Venom spring in the '77 is 25 years old + now and still does the job.

If I'm honest, out pigeon shooting I'll leave the '97 or '77 cocked for up to an hour, then shoot at a bit of chalk just to let the spring release. That said, I've left the '77 cocked for over that on quite a few 'quiet' rabbiting trips where you don't see anything for an hour, but you don't want to cause a commotion by shooting and it's still throwing pellets out at 11.3 ftlbs average with little deviation. Be interesting to see more technical minds thoughts.

Use my soft top for lamping with the Air gun and can't fault it.

Excellent effort! I keep meaning to have a go at mine, but am just hopeless with technical stuff! -
Really nice footage, thanks!

Air Arms Hunter Pellets
silentshot1 replied to jocky's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
They used to be ok in my S410 but in honesty no where near as good as regular AA field in 5.52. -
Loved that, thanks for the great read!

Great decision, you won't regret it! Had my Mk 1 X tuned about 3 years ago and it's still awesome. Darren was as honest and helpful as they come, could have easily upsold me a new regulator but instead listened to what I used the rifle for and recommended an X tune. Excellent service, reasonable time frame and his work has lasted 3 years so far. Best £100 I've spent!

Aim Lower, but it all depends on your set up, distance to target, angle etc as to how low. Chairgun pro has an app for your phone that will give you a starting point and then it's practice from there in.

Guess Who Wants Your Guns?
silentshot1 replied to Pink or stink's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I totally get what you're saying, mate. I'm just a normal working bloke who's mostly worked for myself. I'm after a days wage for a days work. I can, however, see the other side of the fence. There's been more than one business opertunity that I've invested heavily in that hasn't worked out so I do respect those who give it a go so long as it's it's legit and no one's getting ripped off. Take this gig for example. I've had more than my share of being pissed around by folks, either buying or selling on the private market for this kind of thing to appeal to me (not this one but maybe som -
Mine's from 1988 (ish) and is still as accurate as they come and doing 11.3 ft/lbs. As said, the worst you'll need to do is pay for a tune/ tuning kit. I'd also check it over a chrono if I were you, just to be sure. I wouldn't worry to much about a mod, a '77 is long enough as is and the chances are that if you shoot a rabbit in the head then the noise of the impact will cause just as much alarm to those around it than the crack of the rifle. I was out with a friend with my R10 and me with my HW77 the other day after pigeons, I found that although the '77 has a much louder muzzle ra

I guess it depends on what you are looking for them to achieve. You don't need a scope to learn safety, basic marksmanship etc, and a bit of garden plinking. No end of Lego fell foul to my BSA Meteor and Crossman, both open sighted, when I was that age. That said, if they want to go further with hunting or targets, then learning range estimation at set magnifications etc is boon from the beginning. Good luck with it all anyway!

Pressing The Idiot Button Again

How many shots had you taken? Could it have been you took enough shots that you moved out of the pressure sweet spot? -
Stripping & Tuning Hw97Kt Blackline
silentshot1 replied to Marksman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Those videos were brilliant! Gave me confidence to have a go on stripping and relubing my Venom tuned '77. Would there be any marked differences in doing that with an already tuned gun? -
Hi mate Don't know about JB, but Darrin at XTX air charged me about £100 for an X tune on my Mk 1 R 10, came back a new gun without breaking the bank! He's an honest guy who talked me out of extra work, can't recommend him highly enough.

A Great Night On A New Permission (First Video)
silentshot1 replied to Stuart1985's topic in Airgun Hunting
Great footage! If I even saw 15 rabbits in a fortnight over the 1000 acres I shoot over, I'd be delighted! -
What size heads are you using mate? I used to use AA Field Diablo in 5.51 and they were OK. I switched and found 5.52 suited both my S10 and R10 better with noticeably tighter groups and less fliers.
-
As already stated, it doesn't matter what caliber you have, it's how accurate and practiced you are! I have both .177 and .22 and my preference is .22 because I'm as pants at aiming off for windage as .177 is in the wind. Other than that they both do the same job, if you are able and a fettled R10 is an awesome thing!

Brilliantly put!

"HW97K . Best gun ever imho :victory:"... Utterly agree with you! Can't get how good mine is with just 300ish pellets through it! Will always take the R-10 if I think I'll get a speedy second chance but I am just loving the .22 97k at the moment.

Had an HW100 S, S410 TDR and R10. After 6 months the HW100 went, after 5 years the S410 went. Left with the R10 and a S 10. I have to say that I love them both. Nothing wrong with the others at all, but I just prefer the R10. Mine is a later Mk 1 that had an X tune by Darrin at XTX, Brilliant gun and so accurate!

I love the fact that you went somewhere different to conventional thought and got this rifle! I know you have many of the tried and tested Gaystates, HWs, BSAs, etc. but this is utterly different, certainly could be perceived as a risky investment and working for you, I love it! Never would own one myself, having never been a bullpup fan, but it's great to see something different.
