An X tune is pretty comprehensive, you can find out about it here: www.xtxair.co.uk Great guy to boot! -
R10/hw100/daystate/aas410 - Which Gun?
silentshot1 replied to Lee85's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Might be closing the gate after the horse has bolted but I bought my BSA R10 mk1 for £400 including scope 3 years ago, had it for 6 months very happily, then sent it to Darrin at XTX for an X tune (£100). If you include a pump or bottle for £100 - £150, that's a better than new gun and a whole lot of awesome for bang on your £650.. -
Bsa R10 Mk2 Owners......

Don't get too hung up on Chrono numbers, 10.8ft lbs is easily good enough and probably set at that to avoid creeping over 12 ft lbs. I once bought an S10 from an RFD who claimed it was doing just under 12 ft lbs. Having used it for two years, I bought a chrono.. Turned out the gun was firing at 9.5 ft lbs, but honestly I wouldn't have known had I not had a chrono. Basically 10.8 or 11.7, the difference is not worth worrying about as long as your R10 is consistent. Check out Chairgun pro and you'll see what I mean. -
TBH I doubt there is anything wrong with your Pro Sport, they have an excellent reputation and I would love one, but being a lefty stops me! Compared to a PCP, all springers will feel like they are loud and with a kick. Most of the noise will be because the firing action from the piston will resonate through the stock to your ear, stand 25 meters from it and there's little difference. My S10 and HW 97 are about the same, noise wise. Enjoy putting 500 pellets through it and see how it feels after being run in bit. It should be fine!

A friend of mine fitted a Nikko Stirling 6x40 AO mildot to his HW80. It's one hell of a fixed mag hunting scope for £35.00, amazing value!

I thought my first PCP (S410 tdr) was bust the first time I fired it in the field, I took it to a guy with a chrono who thankfully proved otherwise. Now gone full circle and am using my .22 HW 97k almost exclusively at present and getting just as good results, with more a bigger feeling of reward.

These guys sell 5.52 at £10.99 and £14.00 inc. postage. http://www.sundonmodelshop.co.uk Bought my last tin off there after my nearest RFD ran out, they arrived in excellent packaging the day after they got my order. Apparently cheaper if you call them, according to the sticker on the box they came in.

I mainly shoot sitting, with my leading fore arm rested against my right leg. On targets, I'm pretty confident out to 50 - 60 yds on a still day, but mainly 45yds max on quarry and unsupported standing, well, the less said about how bad am at that, the better!

Just saw this on the Daily Mail On Line (don't judge me): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2626743/How-earn-crust-squirrels-Customers-nuts-pies-using-animals-meat.html Could it actually be a positive story connected to Airguns, hunting and eating from the field, in the national press? I'm off to get my eye's checked.

With that kind of accuracy, it's clear that any are up to it! I wonder how they'd compare in a cross wind. I find that I need much less wind compensation for .22 than .177 because of the heavier pellet.

If my permissions were near a road then I may, but I really don't like the idea that I 'should'.

There's hundreds of them down here, just not anywhere I have permission on!

My R10 is awesome, it's a mark 1 I picked up for £400, including scope, then had it XTX tuned after 6 months or so. I can't fault it! The Browning Leverage is an SMK by any other name and I would seriously recommend saving a tad more and going for a used HW 77 or TX200. You'll spend the difference in a tuning kit for the Browning and only end up half way to the others in quality.

I love decoying with an airgun! Decoys work well in the right place. Must be easily visible, near a flight line, food, water or a sitty tree and look natural. In my opinion, dead pigeons are the best decoys, followed by full bodied or half shells, or a mix. Yesterday I had four full bodied decoys arranged haphazardly on the on the yard outside a Rape seed storage barn, which had had the netting at the front removed to allow access. I placed another decoy on the top of a gate opposite, then hid behind machinery in an adjacent barn, facing toward the gate. In the two hours I was there I

Spring Or Pcp ? Good Scopes ? Etc Etc
silentshot1 replied to eggs's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
As above! On your budget you are either limiting yourself to a £300 2nd user PCP and second user charging equipment. I know there are bargains out there but to pay £300 for rifle and scope, I would factor in another £100 to get it serviced. A decent springer, on the other hand, you could pick up 2nd user for £250 including scope, send it away for a tune and end up with an awesome rifle, probably reliable for 10 years plus, with change in your pocket for the inevitable pellet testing. I would also recommend that with springers you go down the tried and tested AA, or HW route. Your -
Couple Of Questions
silentshot1 replied to Pete1977's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Mate I have a Hawke Air Max EV 3 - 9 X 50 on my R10, it's certainly worth the money! Took a bit of getting used to but once I mastered it, it was deadly. I have read on here that Hawke have had an issue with recoiling air guns of late, but mine has been on my HW77, 97 and R10 with no issues. -
Need Help With My Scope - A Bit Of Help Required.
silentshot1 replied to Andy83's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi mate Sounds pretty normal but it depends on caliber, power, scope height etc. The most simple way to see this is to download Chairgun pro or BRC from the Hawk scopes website and look at it on a graph, as your pellet flies in an arc. They also have a very good app for your phone. -
Have a look at these guys http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Sundon-Model-Shop?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 they sell loads of different pellets including JSBs in all three head sizes in 50 pellet sample packs, with next working day dispatch. I only waited two days for delivery. £1.99 per sample pack and you can get some AA field in 4.52 to try as well!

Utterly agree with you! I had an HW100 S and it was a brilliant gun, utterly deadly and beyond as accurate a I can ever hope to be. That said, I never got used to the lever action and always preferred the R10s bolt. Can't put my finger on it, just did. In the end I got rid of the HW100 and spent some money with XTX getting the R10 X tuned. I haven't looked back! Either way you have two cracking guns!

Advice On How To Spend My Money.
silentshot1 replied to DenBell's topic in General Airgun Discussion
It's great when you have a decision like that to make! Last time I had enough hidden from her majesty to buy a night site I bought a new gun... kind of wish I'd bought the night site with hind sight. If you are thinking of an R10 or Huntsman, then it may be worth looking at a good used one and getting it tuned by Darrin at XTX air. My used, later R10 mk1. went to him and has been faultless and deadly ever since. I love it!
