  1. Great photos!! Nice work with the rabbit, I've had move off's with them in the past, but yet to win one!
  2. Went out again today as Father in Law was beginning to throw a paddy over pigeons feeding on the rape. He was mildly sceptical about the amount of pigeons an airgun could pot in 3 hours. Took the S410 TDR and HW77 and headed for a spinny and popular pigeon hang out in the middle of a 70 acre rape field. Set out shell decoys in a standard, wind facing U, 20 meters from my chosen hide and following advise in Pete Wadeson's book, popped a couple in the trees above. Waited for about 30 mins, without so much as sparrow to be seen, then our favorite, feathered, car paint spoilers descen
  3. I put out 12 (the amount in the pack of shell decoys!) 7 or 8 on the ground in a U or V, with a 12 foot gap between the sides of the pattern and the others in nearby trees! Learnt the trick in Pete Wadeson's book and bagged 8 this afternoon. As Kev just mentioned, I don't think you need that many but it's what seems to bring them in for me. I don't get a lot landing on the ground but the trees seem quite busy!
  4. Your generosity is endless, I might try and suffer it a bit longer, wouldn't want to upset Her Majesty! Off to try and sheer the number of Rooks in the Front paddock of the 'In Laws' down. He'll ne watching from the house, no pressure then! Happy New Year!
  5. After the shock of my Wife taking me to the shop to pick up the my AA S410 TDR .22 yesterday, I figured I would share my thoughts on the gun and my first day of using it. Do bear in mind the only reference with another PCP I have, is a borrowed Webley Raider about 2 years ago, if I sound naive, it's because I am! Looks Lets be honest, unless you like utilitarian, erring on military, your not going to fall in love with this. Reminds me of a girl from Luton I once had a drunkard thing with, in good shape but not attractive. The carry case gives me that Bourne Ultimatum baddy feel
  6. Don't know a bundle about them myself but have a look at at this: http://f4bscale.worldonline.co.uk/reviews.htm It's only my opinion but I'd also look at for a second hand HW57, awesome gun.
  7. Just thought I'd let you all know that my wife bought me a AA S410 TDR .22 for Christmas and I picked it up today. Honestly can't believe it, I was really happy with my HW77k. I hadn't expected this. I know not everyone likes them due to their utilitarian looks and 45 - 50 shot capacity, but this nearly new example came in at a very reasonable £420 including Simmons classic 3.5 - 10 x 50 scope. As for the shot count, after zeroing I rarely fire more than 30 shots when I'm out, so shouldn't be a big deal. I'm going to have a go with it tomorrow and I'll let you all know how I get o
  8. Thanks for that! I decided to go with the label for trusts sake and go with the s410 TDR. I found one nearly new in a gun shop down near Southampton. I got the gun, simmons scope and pump etc all for £600. Was going to pay closer to £900 for gun scope and charging stuff and got a decent warranty! Was the right price for me and am looking forward to having a plod with it tomorrow. My wife has asked me to remind the world what a truly wonderful person she is for buying this for me. I think the reality of me not being here for days on end appeals just as much!
  9. I'm with Wuzzy, got to be a second hand Weihrauch HW77k, I've got one with a venom tune and I love it.
  10. Hi Guys I've just seen a AA S410 TDR in a local outdoor shop priced at £520, before this I wasn't considering a PCP but thought that was a bit of a bargain, down the rack, I saw an Armex X10 Avenger for £430, including Deben scope and silencer and fitted sling, I saw the same gun on Guntrader brand for £630. I know that Air Arms are considered to be great but not heard much about Armex. If I can get a good, brand new multi shot gun with a scope and silencer for £430, then awesome. the dealer is local and can be easily chased with a stick, should something go wrong. So the choic
  11. Just got off the phone from two local gunsmiths, both saying they'll need 3 - 4 weeks for a retune of my 'boingey' Lightning XL at around the £50 - £60 mark. I've seen you can buy DIY mainspring and tuning kits for roughly that and was wondering if this was a viable alternative for a reasonably technical mind (My wife's, not mine, mine's filled with excuses as to why I should be out with the gun and not in town suffering yet more shopping plus also idea's of what could be achieved with a simple mix of Kelly Brook and some Angel Delight!). Does anyone know if these are worth it and i
  12. Thanks Andy, here goes nothing! Wuzzy, I'd love to download Gimp but wife would be concerned!!
  13. Went out this morning after some pigeons for a casserole, watched them all flock to feed about 250m from me across an open rape field, blatantly ignoring my beautifully placed decoys (now looking pathetic) and with no cover for a sneak up. Having tripped on branch and taken yet another gouge out of the stock of my HK 77 by dropping it on a large flint, I was about to sulk off home when rustling in a mistletoe covered oak at the far side of the spinny I was holed up in, caught my attention. Adjusting the focus of the scope to 35 yds from 25 for non participating pigeons, I saw that it w
  14. .177 all the way in my opinion. If you aim for the right spot it doesn't matter what you hit with, it will still drop and with a 177 there's less chance of missing because of pellet drop.
  15. I have both a lightning XL .22 and a HW77 k (Venom tuned) as mentioned a couple of posts a go. The lightning is a brilliant rifle in the field, good accuracy, a strong punch delivered, easy to handle and snap in to your shoulder, easy recoil. In fact everything you could really need. That said my HW77 eclipses it by far. The accuracy and consistency is as it's reputation suggests and then some. The power is constant and the legendary weight (11 lbs. including optics, 12.51bs plus lamp), although restrictive in lightning fast shoulder presentation, actually aides longer range shots. It
  16. Thanks for your generous offer Wabbit slayer, but I think I'll go with the majority thought of 'it works therefore it's fine!' Just spent a great afternoon demonstrating it's working to some woodies. Bagged four, delighted! Thanks for the advise guys!
  17. Hi all, Not long joined and never posted, but thought some of you might be able to help with advise. I have a pre 1989 HW 77k .177 S/N 103XXXX Venom (Pre Webley), that I was given. I use it in the field 2 - 3 times a week in all weathers and although I clean it thoroughly, the signs of age are apparent (slight spotting, patchy blueing, a couple of knocks etc). that said it still delivers with a zero of 35 yds and head shots easily obtainable (in the right stance!) at 50yds. The gun hasn't been serviced in at least the six years I have had it and probably more like 12. No local smi
