  1. Yep,mine love 'em.....only thing they leave is the teeth!!
  2. I've taken a week off work to sort out the car and do some decorating.....saw these pics and know that i am going to fail miserably now and will be in the fields instaed! Thanks for the pictures
  3. I've just cleared some undergrowth at the side of a field as I noticed rabbits running in there and wanted to enter the ferrets. After clearing the brambles it was clear that the mound underneath is a huge pile of rocks and stones pushed off the field by farmers over the years. The rabbits have tunnelled through them and made a good sized warren. Then I reached the same question...how would i dig down? I've decided to resist the temptation as the only way to dig down would be to remove large boulders one at a time, apart from being very hard work I'm sure there would be a risk of crushing t
  4. Sorry to hear that.Did you read the recent discussion on here about a possible spider bite being responsible for a similsr situation? Not much comfort to you now I know, but would be worth checking up on if you still have healthy ones. Mooster.

It's also a pain in the arse having to climb all the way back down to fetch the spade when they lay up,and as for keeping the dogs under contro up there. ....
  6. The best "quickies" are never planned
  7. Nice to hear your story, every trip is a new learning experience isn't it.......something different happens to me every time! 'spose it would be boring if we just went out and caught rabbits with no drama or sport involved.

Tried to enjoy it but all a bit too posh for me-Just looked like posh people trying to get all earthy. Music and general format was copied from Hugh Furnley whats his name. Rabbit escallops in corn flakes looked nice though
  9. There are young bullocks on some land where i shoot rabbits. They actually come running towards the sound of gunshot so that I have to shoot, pick up and leg it over a gate. I often wonder what anyone watching me would think I recall several stories in the press last year where very experienced, elderly farmers were crushed by cows. You were indeed locky mate.
  10. My mk 1 takes LR44 in the collar....only ONE battery is needed though not two! Or am I missing the point? good luck!
  11. Sorry for the loss of your ferrets m/c.I must add my thanks though,as others have. This has been a very interesting and enlightening account which i'm sure has made us all aware of the potential deadliness of bites and stings from tiny beasts. This may well account for the "totally unexplained" deaths of ferrets we have all heard about at one time or another. I know we all slag off vets for their fees but I wonder if it would be worth you relaying your findings to one of the vets journals/websites or whatever they use to discuss new ailments and cures with eachother? I appreciate the deaths
  12. Nice story mate, great to hear others have to sort kids and bathrooms first, thought it was just me.
  13. Wouldn't be from the USA by any chance would it? A sign of the times I rekon-seems lots of people are treating their pets more like kids than ever before. Just listen in the vets waiting room when they insist on calling pets by their "first" names. "would Mrs Smith and Victoria come through please?" No word of a lie, there is a young couple near my home with a Rottie called Rebecca!!!!!! Adverts for dogs in the local paper always refer to "two boys and one girl waiting for a home". Of course nobody would deny that most pets are respected and looked after by people who may or may not ha

    Guard Dogs!

Geese are brilliant.....no good if you have neighbours ,but if you have the space/grass and are in an isolated location, unbeatable.

Try the "snares, trapping and pest control" section. Also lots of experienced moletrappers on the ferret site. Don't bother with gimicky "sonic" sounders ...waste of time in my experience.I gave a friend loads of ferret poop to put down mole holes as someone suggested.....also a waste of time.!
  16. Never seen a tape worm in a rabbit or ferret.never fed intestines to the ferrets anyway.Never seen worms in my ferrets or their poop. Once found a big liver fluke on a rabbit's liver which gave me the creeps. Are you sure your vet is not trying to sell you some pills you don't need. "If it ain't broke don'tr fix it"
  17. This has wetted my apetire.Time to get out there!
  18. I seem to remember there is a section in the sporting gun magazine dedicated to pigeon shooting each month although i haven't bought it for ages.
  19. Yes he did Frank.I think most people visualise that clip when they meet a ferret for the first time! I was guilty too!!
  20. Best of luck to those affected.(more problems just been reported on tv this evening). Back to the original September starting......I remember reading an article in the spring where a gardener at cew gardens pointed out that everything had bloomed about 1 month earlier then usual. Down here in Devon blackberries are plentiful (usually September) and the swifts have all gone back to Africa today from my part of town. Does all this mean the bunnies will be ready for harvesting a month early??? If so i'll come back from holiday early! Just a thought.
  21. I put a thread on this a few weeks back. I've got a 3 yr old jill who lives and works well with her 18mth old daughter. I had the youngster spayed 3 weeks ago and mother has totally rejected her since her op.Attacks her and chases her everywhere and I know my ferrets well enough to know when play becomes fight I can tell you. Still soft as a kitten with me though so I'm trying them together every day for 10 minutes till mother calms down.
  22. Thanks. I made the lemon tagine rabbit last week after reading your recipe. Bought bottle of saffron strands but was expensive and only 0.4 g. Your recipe required 2g of saffron stamens...that' 4/5 bottles! Am I just being a stupid bloke? I only put in what I could afford anyway and it was very very tasty! Oh,also needed to thicken the end product a bit. Should I have put 2grammes of these strands in or are they different from saffron stamens? Anyway i'll try the white wine one this week. Cheers.Mooster
  23. tried them today after 4 days swapping beds and letting them feed either side of wire dividing mesh. Even though they sniff and stare at eachother when they are out in th run, mother is not having any of it and is still lashing outwhen put together. Anyway will try again (and again)! Will close this thread and do a quick update or pm's if I get a result.
