  1. Why do I fall for this stuff everytime?!
  2. Nothing on the telly tonight then LL ?!
  3. There seem to have been some monumental cock ups like this in the uk recently and I am sick of the state of this country as anyone BUT,I've just come back from Paris and the place is in chaos with everybody on strike....again! Everyone over there is very seriously peed off and I was glad to come back.
  4. I think this would go the same way as any other licence wether its tv,firearm, rod, driving, game or any other sort of licence... only the law abiding would bother spending the money and complying with restrictions. Then all the bone idle benefit cheats and illegal immigrants in this country would not bother and get their licence paid for by the rest of us. I think tighter restrictions on the breeding of dogs would be addressing the root of the problem and reduce the number of unwanted or uncontrolled dogs in the country.Of course there would be those who carry on breeding to excess but I
  5. Personally,I get a lot out of fieldcraft/ferreting/shooting on my own. I enjoy the solitude and don't have to worry about what someone else is doing/saying/not saying etc. It's just me,my ferrets and nature so I don't want to risk finding my "companion" is bored and wants to go home or talks too loudly or shoots dangerously or is scared to pick up my ferret or fails to unload his gun when climbing a gate etc etc. Each to their own I suppose....coincidentally I'm from Devon as well!! Like I said, just my view.
  6. OK Ditch,sorted.................but you will have to change those curtains luvvie...rose petals are soooo last Thursday!
  7. You will never forget that first one! Well done. Mooster.
  8. I've noticed that my ferrets hiss at eachother when they want to send a quick warning or reproach. sounds like "TSHOOOOIISSSHT"! When my young ones tried to nip, I found that a sharp hissing in their face was enough to distract them and warn them off. So now your neighbours will see you in the garden smearing yourself with mustard, then spitting on your hands before putting on garden gloves and crouching over a small animal making hissing noises The things we do! Best of luck.Mooster.
  9. Thanks all. Hope my experience will encourage others rather than reaching for the .22 !
  10. I Have no experience of falconry but always enjoy seing them in action....well done and thanks for good pics.
  11. Keep the memories mate. You're never alone. Mooster
  12. Well, in July I put up a post about my jills.I keep a 4 year old rescue jill and have kept one jill from her last litter. They were working very well together...until. In July I had the youngster spayed as I have no garden or space for a hob. On return from the vets the young jill was attacked constantly by her mother who had previously been her closest companion(apart from me)! It became so fierce and one sided that I feared I would find the young jill dead if I left them together so I had to carry out emergency alterations to their sleeping/feeding and exercise arrangements...became a l
  13. When I was a kid we used ordinary nets which were not purse nets so did not have a draw string or peg. The rabbits bolted into the net and they were tangled and scrabbling about on the grass. This was sufficient to hold them until we grabbed them.I guess this would be called a "bolt net"?
  14. Re the T-shirt method....local news headline. "police are searching for a man seen dumping a human torso in a river late last night, eyewitnesses report that the suspect first lay the legless body on the edge of the river before repeatedly stabbing it with a knife. One eyewitness said the torso must be the remains of a person long since dead as it could be smelled from 100 yds away"
  15. Welcome aboard mate.I'm down towards the pointy end in Devon. Also a country boy forced to live in town. Best thing about the site is the mountain of info/tips/experience/new ideas to try for yourself whenever you head into the fields or woods.I've saved a packet having learned how to make my own rabbit nets on here! All the best Mooster.
  16. Isn't he the voice of principal Skinner, the headteacher from the Simpsons?
  17. Bluebottles, bumblebee and tortoiseshell butterfly all seen here this week.
  18. On the subject of formaldehyde.I asked the chemist for some of this to make pigeon decoys a few years ago..I was told that it is not permitted for sale to the public anymore?
  19. Is that right?...A Mk 3 collar is compatable with a Mk 1 box? Cos I also need another one. Could you just confirm Stubby? Thanks.
  20. The police, courts, and even some farners might not seem to mind too much but don't forget most farmers will be in touch or even related to other farmers far and wide. That means you risk getting a very bad name for yourself and other ferreters amongst landowners/farmers far and wide and by the time the story has been passed around a few times it will have received the "chinese whispers" effect with you being an aggressive gang of poachers carrying surface to air missiles in a ferret box! If someone came into my garden without asking permission I certainly would not ask him politely to leave.
  21. YEP! Same with me,I was getting changed at work the other day and the lad next to me just went silent and walked out of the changing room when he saw the state of my back!! I have developed the following 2 remedies to help. 1.I just can't set my purse nets when wearing gloves but have found that by cutting off the finger tips off, the backs of my hands ahd wrists are less torn apart. 2.I always used to tie the nets to a section of thick bramble or thorn but this adds a lot of time to setting up and taking down nets.In the local pound shop you can buy a set of 10 quick release clips wh
  22. Very frustrating! My 4 yr old jill has been attacking her daughter since the day she came back from the vets after being spayed. That was in May and mother still attacks her.Are now seperated bt this is a pain and makes using the two in the same warren a no no. I'm going to keep trying but am running out of patience! Good luck, you're not alone!
  23. Well put, Chalkwarren.I seldom need to dig but on the occasions when I have it has always been the same routine as follows... Enter ferret,if nothing bolted after 10 minutes I usually hear a commotion underground in one spot (not rabbits giving her the run around but holed up). whilst digging down to her my ferret seems to sense my involvement and comes back out to check on my progress before returning to battle until I join in and break through. Some of this may be my imagination but it certainly seems as though they love working with man as a team!

    Vile Grass

Stop blaming other people!...........it's nobody elses fault ,why should you be let off when the rest of us have to pay car tax? If the bloke next door to you was an illegal immigrant claiming loads of benefits for kids and a disability he doesn't have would you not consider telling someone?....why should he get away with it?
