Had this lots of times.Once after one returned from the vet she was repeatedly attacked by her mother for days. General rule is....if there is no blood drawn, leave them to it. Normally one will be immediately submissive and one the boss. It can take a few weeks so remember to be patient and try not to interfere with nature.Easier said than done! Good luck.

I got this one from my local paper in Devon Last week and it's really lovely.(mild curry). For 4 people. 150ml sunflower oil. 4 cinnamon sticks or a teaspoon of ground cinamon. 4 cardamom pods. 2 pinches nutmeg. 6 red onions sliced. 1 head of garlic-cloves peeled and chopped.(yeah thats right...a whole garlic!) 2 jointed rabbits. 1 tsp turmeric. 1tsp ground corriander. 1tsp madras curry powder. 1tsp cumin. 4 tomatoes chopped. 6 chillies chopped.(I used only 2 but this was still very mild with a lovely chillie flavour/bite) 70g fresh ginger chopped. 4 bay leaves. 20ml lemo

Sorry mate. Got one here, had a look...no idea!!!! I thought I saw a recent thread on here about servicing the mk1 which may help.

Nice one. I also made these from the river cottage books and put them on the barbeque when we went camping a couple of years ago......even Mrs Mooster ate them.Go really well with the home made tomato sauce in the book as well.

whats a good ferreting book to get stuck into ?
mooster replied to csme55ex's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Don't forget your local library is free to join and you can put the book back if it's crap! I got James Mackay books from mine which were really good. -
I want to learn ferreting..Teacher needed please !
mooster replied to Bunny-Blaster's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Hope you get some help mate. I'm the other end of the country unfortunately There are plenty of books in the libraries and loads of FAQ'S and coverage of every possible aspect on here anyway. It's not an exact science anyway so I'm Sure you will learn with experience like all fieldsports. Good luck and enjoy your ferret! -
Too angry to say anymore

I took my best jill out this week to ferret a small copse on the side of a by-pass. I like to "tune in" to the surroundings, and as I hunt alone I often rely on my sense of hearing to hear if my ferrets have slipped out of a concealed hole or if they have a bunny in a dead-end underground. With this in mind I decided to attach a small bell to her collar with a cotton thread as the traffic was sure to hinder my normal hearing. Netted up 12 holes, straight down,waited............and waited. She nearly always bolts within 5 minutes unless she has one holed up and after 20 minutes, I began all

Never cleaned out my ferrets ears either.Any dirt is naturally repelled by the wax which is produced so can't see much point. :)

I need help with Pheasant
mooster replied to garethstroud's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
That looks bootufull! By the way,I once read a thread on here showing how to remove those long tendons from pheasant legs by cutting around the "ankle" joint then pulling them out on the end of the claw.Worth a look if you can find it. -
I've had this loads of times with my jills. The mother of my litter attacked one of her daughters relentlessly for weeks after she had been to the vet to be spayed. The general rule I find is only consider intervening if blood is drawn or the "victim" starts to look sick or exhausted. Otherwise let nature take it's course...........which can take weeks in my experience, so try to be patient!

Never heard of meat from a rabbit "breast"!!!

Surely it's a chance we all take when we release a predator into the wild...if my ferrets went off course and attacked someones hens I would not expect to see them alive again if they were caught red handed. Likewise if a stray dog or even a straying bird of prey attacked my ferrets I'm afraid I would save them from death or injury first and ask questions later. A real shame, either way but a risk we all take.

I agree. The thing that really annoys me is that people make tv programmes about living off the land and everybody acts as if the idea was invented by them. I have a lot of time for Hugh Fernley whatsisname and his recipe books are second to none if you want real "live off the land" recipes. But I'm now sick and tired of seeing chefs shooting their own rabbits and acting like nobody ever thought of this before! Rant over!

Well done mate. This is becoming common in my experience.I recently caught some idiot taking his ferret out at night in a pet carrier to let it loose in the woods as his kids were fed up with it.

Are you sure they are not just white guinea pigs?

I used to keep my kayak stored vertically against the wall in my back yard. One evening an adventurous youngster climbed the spardash wall to about 10feet and dropped inside the kayak through the bit where i sit. Then tumbled down inside to the pointy end of the kayak and squeaked until i rescued her. I have also found them in the small drain and remedied this by tying a weight under the drain cover as one of my hobbs seemed hell bent on drowning himself down there!

Why not go to your local library or pet shop and read a book that tells you how to feed a ferret? Or look on this site for feeding tips etc.

I always offer mine water after they have been busy underground but they never seem interested.

You go to a landowner and like ask if you can like go on his/her land to like catch rabbits!

Only worry if there is blood drawn. I've had this several times. It even happened when I took one of my jills to be spayed last year. When she came back from the vets her mother did not recognise her scent and bullied her for weeks constantly chasing her and pecking at her neck! This was a real pain in the butt as I felt I had to keep seperating them to give the younger one a rest from the constant chasing and nipping. It's all about pecking order I believe and all animals need to sort this out (humans included)! Last week I introduced a new 3 month old jill.she was dragged around by the ne
