  1. I know there are seperate forums for hounds, retrievers and terriers but thought i would raise this as a general talk. (If that breaks any rules I apologise and will move to individual dog discussions) I was leafing through some of my dog books this evening and am wondering if anyone still works or has worked any of the following pedigree dogs all of which were originally bred for the field. I know many will say that pedigrees have had all the spirit bred out of them and have no brains etc but it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has real experience to the contrary. Ones
  2. Thanks H and J. I'll order anything that's free........now I find i've just given my home address to some lunatic anti. Setting the man traps tonight just in case!
  3. You saying my prick smells??............Well you are a big fat poo! Anyway back to the question ignoring Mr anti-panty! I think walking into a house that smells of cats is 100 times worse than ferrets and the aroma is only strong during the breeding season in my experience so wouldn't bother castrating just for that reason
  4. MADCOWZ has said it. Ignore this "guest" it's clearly a kid messing around . And anyway, he's probably a smelly poo bum!!
  5. More jabs?...Absolutely no need! Some people will loose ferrets unexpectedly. So will owners of every known pet and some owners themselves come to that! Life and death cannot be hidden.Animal or human. Everyone hates it when it happens to their pet but we are observers of nature and not controllers of nature. Wildlife, tamed or otherwise cannot be kept in a box with a label and controlled with drugs.
  6. Most important thing is to be choosy about who you buy from There is no way of knowing how any animal will develop, either psychologcally or physically. But you can see its parents if the breeder is reputable. If the parents are healthy and happy you have a good chance of a healthy and happy youngster. Big,small, fast slow.In my experience all ferrets love bolting rabbits . I prefer small ferrets as they take up less room and are less inclined to tangle my nets.
  7. Happened to me 2 years ago. There are loads of foreign students living near me.One evening a group of malasian student blokes came running past my house chasing one of my young jills with a cardboard box.Usual thing..they were half scared. And acted like I was a lion tamer when I picked her up and took her home!
  8. Thanks for the complement!! And from the daddy himself!...one thing though, When is this bloke going to come around and pin me down to "stick" me? What should i wear for the occasion? Will I need a medical first? ..Regards.Mooster.
  9. Can I smell the earth and damp leaves? Can I feel the sun or wind or rain on me? Am I playing a part in nature's daily drama of life and death? Am I finding and killing the best meal of my life? Am I part of living history with my ferret/dog/snare/net? I am living the life of the hunter. It's part of me and it won't go away!....Whatever the quarry is.
  10. Welcome aboard Maltenby. Everytime I see a sign for a public footpath I take my dog for a walk on it and check out the land nearby. Any sign of rabbits and I find the nearest farm.Do a quick drive by...anyone working the fields or farmyard and I ask them who the farmer is. Then ask if i can run my ferret through the hedges to keep the rabbits down. Treat it a bit like a job interview and remember first impressions count! How would you feel if someone called at your door asking for permission to roam around in your garden? It begs the question "what's in it for me?" Farmers are running a
  11. Nice to see you've got the ferrets at last. The old man is looking very paternal! Be warned...you'll be amazed at how high they can climb and how quick they are to leave home and explore the neighbourhood.....ferrets,not the other half!!! Well done. Mooster
  12. Glad this thread has been raised.I've been thinking this a lot lately but been too scared to say to anyone as we are all supposed to love the summer! I cope by going spearfishing in the summer.A good way to burn of my hunting/stalking instinct until the summer ends.
  13. We live in a terrace of old houses and got problems last year.Same thing...the old lady next door didn't realise there was a problem and we caught 20+ in traps over a few weeks. They piddle everywhere they go and leave poop everywhere. The only sure way to get rid of them in my experience is to put down plenty of poison and traps at the same time.I'm no expert but I believe they breed so quickly that traps alone would never wipe out a colony. It has worked this year...so far. Also remove the food source, ours were attracted by the dog's food bowl overnight.Good luck. I think there are some p
  14. Please God no! No!no! no! no.! Reminds me of when i first tried finding ferret stuff on the internet and came across all that sort of stuff. Yes sorry but mostly American! I was so pleased whenI found this forum.....Real people, real ferrets, and real life!
  15. Can you just clarify this? He wanted 10 ferrets so he could release them near where he works so his colleagues could look out the window and watch them running around looking for a a home/food etc? Weird!

  17. Herring gulls going mad over new born chicks on rooftops in our street (near the sea). Blackbirds doing their usual dusk alarm. other blackbirds singing the day out.traffic on wet roads. (gulls will be going all night, all summer until the young ones fly the nest).Don't mind natural noises at night....drunks and taxis are a different matterthough!
  18. Oh my God...I'm a "forum lurker". Thanks for the diagnosis.Very funny observation, everyone must have seen themselves somewhere in there!!! So which one are you??

How about this....An Englishman Irishman Scotsman and an Essex girl walk into a pub. The barman looks up and says....... "Is this some kind of a joke?"

    tell me

Best of luck mate. One of my kids fell into the "education, education, education" trap and now owes the government thousands of pounds for his trouble. Now he's desperate to find work and up against hoards of polish blokes in the job centre. Must admit i was starting to resent them when my lad couldn't find any work for ages after leaving university but Duckwing made a very interesting point about going where the money is..we all remember auf weidersein pet and Eldorado. Hope the gamekeepers job comes off anyway.
