  11. ma old cocker killed my young brothers rabbit a few years ago. the cocker never got locked up and just went in to a hut at night, went out one morning and noticed the rabbit wasnt in its hutch so i started looking about the garden and under the the hut, next theng the cocker walks up with the rabbit in his mouth lol. a think ma older brother let it out the the hutch when he came up to our house
  12. got a pup from saluki bouy today, hes a little cracker. all pups are lovely. looking forward to bringing it up and training it. thanks to saluki bouy for the pup and seen him ok for a good drink at the pub. appreciated atb poacherman
  13. disagree with that, obv a dogs going to know when to get its teeth sunk in but when on rabbits it should be soft mouthed and bring the rabbits back alive and in tack. if you do a lot of dummy work with your dog with a light dummy the dog will be soft mouthed believe me atb poacherman
  14. all you do is use a light dummy, some of the dummys you get out gun shops are too heavy and forces the dog to take a right good grip of it to carry it back. i always used the very small dummys you get that are light and easy for the dog to get its mouth round it. when a moved on to putting a skin round the dummy i got a broom stick and cut two bits of about the size of a rabbit and celotaped them together then put my rabbit skin on and sewed it up. it was light and easy to lift. dog brings every rabbit back alive and in tack atb poacherman
  15. cracking dogs u have there mate. the wee pups a lovely dog atb poacherman
  16. ive got a saluki grey whippet grey and she done great on her first season, worked well with the spaniel while i was out bushing and was great on bolted rabbits aswell aswell. got her into the lamp aswell and doing good aswell. she going to make a great allround rabbiting dog but she will do well in big parks aswell atb poacherman
  17. a man from my area just started off racing greyhounds a few years back there, he had a bit off money to start off with and went over to ireland and got himself 3 greyhounds of a right good line. a spoke to a old friend round the corner from me whos been running greyhounds for nearly 30 years and he said he just couldnt compete with the irish greyhounds that this man had. he said it didnt matter how fit he got his dogs they still couldnt beat them. he says there a class above the rest. maybe its just there turn to have some good dogs, good dogs come and go atb poacherman
  18. how would she have a season if shes only 7months old, shes not filled out yet because she is still young and growing your ripping this blokes dod when hes good enough to take it on. but it shows what you know about dogs when your suprised bitch comes into heat at 6 months. The normal and most common is for the Dam to come into heat at 6 months of age and then every 6 months there after. Some Dams come in at 4 months and some at 12 months for their first heat. Some every 6 months and some every 5 to 11 months. cheers easy haha a thought canis lupis meant a working season, so

  20. well done mate for giving the dog another chance. the people saying it needs a good feed are proberly needing a good feed themselfs anyway never mind the narrow minded people, sometimes its hard to keep weight on a pup especially when there growing fast, sounds like its getting the best off food so just keep at it, its got a right long face and very racey looking, could be saluki in there somewhere. cracking dog anyway and best a luck with it atb poacherman
  21. this man knows nothing about dogs

  22. spaniel is not the same as a wippet you clown when did a say it was the same fanny face, if men can go out lamping with there lurchers at heal and only chase on command im sure they could do it during the day but if the whippet flushes a rabbit it might be a different story. you can stop your dog from chasing when the dog is close in but if its out infront working its different story. best thing to do is get yourself a spaniel, different dogs for different jobs
  23. do u mean if you out during the day u dont want your dog chasing rabbits
  24. thats good going, ive still got my lurcher on the slip while lamping but looking to keeping it at heel soon but watching other dogs running rabbits while at heel is a hard task but i will give it a go when i think shes ready. its great seeing a well trained dog. lot of lurcher men now just go out and slip and thats it but theres a lot more to dogs than that atb poacherman
