  1. Thanks for the offer Phil, at the moment I am hampered here, so cant take you up directly, well not at the minute. I don't actually shoot, I just have the terriers. I got one as a pet and now Ive got seven and the rabbit bug as well. Spend all my spare time trying to get the little buggers! I can't have any more dogs here, otherwise I'd get a lurcher. We are trying to sell this place cos the neighbours are a snotty lot and get agitated with the dogs, the ferrets and the fact that I like to go out bushing. Its "equestrian" but they don't like livestock or anything not horsey! The bloke ne
  2. Thanks you guys, the advice is great. I'm going to try snaring for now. I have a bit of permission to bush and take some walked up game, anything the dogs can get, on some watermeadows near here, so I'm gona ask the farmer if I could try to snare there too, he's snided out with rabs. I don't mind a few, but bloody hell, when the buggers are so cheeky you gotta do something! If I have some success he might let me have a wider range. Ive been down there this morning looking at the runs and seeing where there clearest. You can't ferret there cos the hedges are double sheep wired, but loads of
  3. I am in a village outside Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Thanks for the reply. Regards deanne
  4. Milbemax is a great wormer, but you have to be careful, the vet doesn't tell you you can split, so look at the weight on the pack and split if you need to - it means that if you have terriers like me you can use one tablet for two (my vet sells me one tablet which does 20kg per dog). Also you can get puppy sized ones too. Its also safe to use in pregnant bitches, which drontal isnt. Regards deanne
  5. My dogs get tarry stools if they have minced tripe, bones is the answer. Lamb bone with little meat on, ribs for preference. Chickens ok but faddy eaters dont always go for the texture. With spines, chop up and then dry em out so they go dark in colour and don't feel slimy to pick up. Not much is needed. They are full of goodness. Remember a dogs natural state is to be slightly constipated. Helps with the anal glands! Remember digestive transit for a complete diet is 16 hours approx, for bones, 8 hours approx. A working dog will keep weight on better if it is fed on bones and mea
  6. Cracking pups - a credit to you! I breed borders and I worm the bitch with milbemax about three weeks before she whelps. That reduces the worm burden of the newborns, which is important if you have a bitch from a less than scrupulous background. The hormones of pregnancy awaken dormant worms which then migrate to the unborn pups. Some bitches I've had as rescues have so many dormant worms that you have to do this repeatedly, and after whelping at the same time interval as the pups, as the normal worming routine doesn't get the dormant ones. Only worm a pregnant bitch with milbe

How much are the jabs, and what sort of wormers. I have 7 terriers.
  8. Hi, I've just joined, have six borders, all work to the best of their (and my) abilities, mostly bushing rabbits but some rats too. Also have two ferrets, as yet unworked. I have good permission for bushing on a local farmers land but would like to have a go at ferreting - although I suspect I would be crap at digging - and am keen to do some snaring on my own land. The farmer lets me take all walked up game I can get (maybe a pheasant or a wild duck but more often a rab). I am keen to increase my knowledge and success with rabs. Deanne (the border terrier lady)
  9. Hi, I am new to the forum and have a small area of land, about 3 acres, enclosed by neighbours farm land, which is not kept clear of pests and which are now making inroads onto our little bit of grazing. Although I have a good pack of terriers my neighbours object strongly to me working them over their land, and since I have no lurcher this is only of limited use (we pick up mostly the myxies). I was thinking of snaring as being a method of managing the rabs without encroaching on other people's territory. There are numerous runs from their land, through sheep netting and under my (densely
