is that the fella who beat magee from belfast?if it is he is a good fighter
-
as neil told every 1 he hunts for 26 weeks of the a year so fatman that means 2 digs a week or 2 a day for each bitch thats good goin you must have a right team of dogs about you out of these good bitches. yes but thats with the hunt you have to take into acount the other days you would be diggng your local earths going to meet your freinds in different parts of the country holiday periods. a good baying dog or bitch over 3 years old should be tested well so whats to say they could not be dropped 3 or 4 times on a good day after all they need to be tested before there bred from.

lads iv one of my dogs here 4 nearly 5 year old been digging him since he 18 month old only time he ever barked is when he in a tight spot and cant make contact he a bit wide in the chest. he will dig on allday to make contact and when he does theres nothing getting away from him iv dug him a couple of times well over three hours on grips for he hole dig but i never classed him as a hard dog because to me he never got the punishment to know he is a clever strong dog that knows were to hold without getting punished and am not talking about little vixens if you know what i mean. i also have a do

so what categorie does a mute dog come into A hard B stupid hard or C phycotic

well said dee.reading some of the other posts i dont know what people are talking about ie.i like a hard dog but he must have sence :icon_eek:ffs your dog is either hard or he is nt. IMO a hard dog is the dog that goes in and will not come away no matter what he would rather die than leave what he is at.some people have dogs that go and take hold for the duration of a dig but without getting knocked up to badly and then one day they meet the right opponent and when they start getting some punishment they either come away or with a bit of luck they start boxing clever.to me they are not hard do

Nothing mate.Everyone to their own.If thats what you want,go for it and dont let anyone change your mind.I dont see the big issue,You dont see terriermaniac asking you why you keep black, white terriers.Good luck on your search.clachan i keep fell terriers mostly black but i have a couple red and black and tan.its not about colour with me its about work ability if am happy with there work il breed from them regardless of there colour.i can trace back most of my dogs breeding twenty or thirty years all from the same strain but is not my own am just trying to carry it on. he is back trackin -

so what are you going to do when you get your red lakey or fell bitch and all going well workwise you breed her to your red dog what are you going to do if the pups come tri colour going back to the 3 qtr russell? -
why dont you go out with whoever you got the pup from? am not trying to knock you but terrier men are very cautious about even talking shop never mind taking someone one with them that they dont even know and its rightfully so with all the antis about and scumbags theiving peoples dogs.

why are you so hung up about the colour of the animal?you sound to me like a man more interested in showing the dog rather than its work ability. it should always be about work never mind the colour. as the boys mentioned earlier that why there is so much shite around today. and by the way thers loads of lads in ireland and uk with good red stuff there decent terriermen who dont sell pups to just anyone who ll more than likely f**k the the pup up while trying to run him on then blame the breeder saying he bred shite. -
bedlington terrier from working stock are supposed to be decent for bushing and cover

Hi wilko tango , yep have tried that re spiking outside a hole n smelling and listening , by the time i,d got to the dog it was all over - ie despatched yes mate thats the problem with trying to get them going when you use a hard dog they dont hear much baying its just banging and bumping and they normally dont take much from these expereiences.far better if you can get them spiked while you have a good baying dog working they seem to get alot more from it this way.atb anyway mate

best food for pups raw or dry?
wilko tango replied to tony1978's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I try and feed as close to a natural diet as I can and in the wild wolves and wild dogs would rarely eat carbs. They would get most of their calories from protein. I do give them some carbs but that mostly comes from left over potatoes or rice but I don't ever cook or add it unless its food going to waste. Natural diet for dogs would be meat, bones, marrow, offal and veg/greens from the preys stomach. Many people do feed carbs but mine seem to do well the way I feed them. sounds good. as far as i know tripe is suposed to be high in carbs.I have my dogs on mixed grub it consists of 6 -

she is still very young mate give her plenty of time to mature.Have you tried spiking her near an entrance to listen while another dog works?I find this wrks for me i also try not to let them get anything on top but thats not for everybody horses for courses
-
thats the same way i view it mate thats why i steak them at the entrance and dont let them see the dig but why let the dog travel to a stop end thats already being dug? surely if he is keen to go then backfill andbringthe dog to a handy earth and let him self enter and dig the dog out. surely this is far better for the dog i dont mind giving a pup a stop end but its the last resort id much rather get them to self enter by spikeing them near entrance holes while other do works the hardest part of getting a terrier working is to get them to travel most terriers will tackle a fox but
