  1. Hi 8-Bore Are you going to the meeting and film show on 6th December in Bathgate?
  2. Nice story. Graham Downing's son used to shoot up here in Scotland when he was at St Andrews Uni. Don't know what happened to him after that.
  3. No experience of the Hatsan myself but, over on the wildfowling forum, there certainly seems to be a number of people who agree with Laurona 12 and reckon that it is false economy to go for a cheapie semi-auto. Benneli, Beretta and Winchester seems to be the favourites.
  4. You can also shoot whitefronted geese in England but not in Scotland.

    duck

    Yum Yum. Nice bag.
  6. Are you the PR man? As far as I know I'm the only member on this Forum. Most of them are on another Forum.
  7. There's now more news here: Newsletter
  8. You'd think that a goose guide whose Number Plate says "OBESE" would be too fat too chase geese.
  9. Really only one way to find out Steve. Observation. Get out there at dawn and dusk and watch what the ducks do. Once you discover the flightlines, work out the best place to intercept them. Bends in the river are usually a good place to start. If the river is not too fast (if its tidal then there will certainly be periods of slack water) then try putting out some decoys.
  10. Hi, I used to have an Ithaca 10-bore which I thing was the same design as the Remington SP-10. I loaded my own carrtidges and they cycled OK but if you want ready-rolled ones then Forseys gunshop in Kent does quite a range of 10-bore shells mail order.
  11. I belong to the East of Scotland Wildfowling Club and here are a couple of bits of recent news that might be of interest to other wildfowlers who either live in Scotland or go to Scotland for wildfowling. The first one is that the club has now got the lease of some private shooting which will give members goose and duck flighting. Its beside a reservoir in the area. The second news is that the club is approaching its 100th new member since it started last January. The lucky guy who becomes the 100th member will get next years club subscription and BASC subscription FREE! Worth a punt i

    Steel shot

2¾" Hevi-shot will outperform 3½" steel every time. At about £14 a box they are expensive but how many are you going to fire on the shore in a season? 5s for ducks and 3s for geese will kill cleanly at up to 45-50 yards provided you can shoot on target at that distance.
  13. The value of potato peelings, banana skins, etc., is not as a direct food but because they encourage invertebrates that the ducks then eat. No need to mash the tatties - put them in whole. They will then decompose at different rates and provide long-term benefit. As far as grain is concerned, barley seems to be preferred but no need to buy good quality grain. The sweepings from under the driers will do fine.
  14. Mixed reports on FUDS. Tidepool doesn't rate them. Choose something that is light to carry - better with 50 scrappy looking lightweight deeks than 12 feather-perfect works of art.
  15. It depends what the goldeneye have been eating and how late in the season it is. Those from the inner Tay round about the Earn junction can be quite palatable early in the season.
  16. I have collected about six goose rings over the years - all from pinkfooted geese. The shortest distance and time was a bird that had been ringed at Vane Farm one day and I shot it on the other side of Loch Leven the next day. Longest was a pink that had been ringed at Martin Mere 12 years before I shot it in East Lothian.
