Oh mate the stuff I shot with that pistol, I have no idea what the power was, but my old man had bought it from a mate, it certainly used to drop stuff when you hit em in the right place, it certainly taught me a thing or two about fieldcraft I can tell you that, I eventually sold it to a mate, and actually enquired about it a couple of years ago, he could not remember what had happened to it, Im going to ask him again, I would love to have it back and restore it.

Now you lot have set me off wanting another, in fact there is a .177 LGU varmint in a shop not a million miles from me for a reasonable price, ffs Mac any good to you,? Or I might bloody buy it lol.
-
Do it mate, the LGU might suit you better being an underlever fan, but my advice for what its worth..... get a .177 I genuinely believe they ARE better in .177, which is not something to be said for every spring rifle, all they need mate is the spring ends polishing, and a top hat to finish them off wonderfully, they are simplicity itself to strip, the trigger is not bad, its just not as good as AA or HW, but perfectly serviceable, but yep a Rowan kit will sort it perfectly, enjoy, oh one last thing, they come out of the box around 10.8-11 ftlbs, I set mine to 11.6 as soon as I got it, after a
-
Well why would he not, they are quite simply the best spring rifle out there, (if you sort the trigger) seriously smooth, almost pcp quiet with a moderator, and the lock time, well shoot one and find out.
-
Im glad its not only me that wondered that, its bloody flying isn't it?
-
Get a Walther ya mugs?
-
Cracking rifles mate, wish I had never sold my B55, one of my all time top spring air rifles.
-
Keep em coming boys, I love stories like these.

You wont go wrong with an Ultra mate, I absolutely love mine in .177 it is genuinely one of the most accurate air rifles I have ever owned, and for me has that certain "something" that some guns have and some guns despite being very good, just dont seem to posses. -
I remember my first rabbit like it was yesterday, shot with my trusty Crossman .22 pump pistol, myself and a couple of mates were walking down the side of a wood just about to come to a large patch of gorse in a dip with a little stream running in front, there were quite a few bunnies running around as we approached, most inevitably ran off into the gorse.........But one stopped on a little bankside, just before the gorse, I already had the Crossman at the ready, and slowly took aim at the rabbits neck, crack goes the pistol, and I hear the thud of the pellet hitting him, and there he lay kick

Like a car crash out of the box, excellent when tuned, but difficult to get to full power in .177, but Im damn well going to try again one day, Vortek is your friend.

How to reduce the recoil on a .177 hw97k
charlie caller replied to Dean 4546's topic in General Airgun Discussion
No you are correct they are let down by the trigger, however Rowan engineering do a trigger kit that sorts it, and yes thats very accurate grouping mate indeed, at the end of the day, if you want a top notch springer of any make, time and money are your freinds. -
How to reduce the recoil on a .177 hw97k
charlie caller replied to Dean 4546's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I am afraid we are going to have to disagree there mate, sure the stock is nothing special on the Walther,ok but nothing special, that router cut I could not care a damn about, but understand some may be bugged by it, the finish to the metalwork is decent, not perhaps quite as good as air arms, but every bit as good as a 97, then we come to the part that makes the rifle so good, I have said it before and no doubt will again, the internal engineering, with tolerances and finish far exceeding, HW and AA by a long way, the rifles are a joy to strip, and work on, with a moderator fitted they are a -
How to reduce the recoil on a .177 hw97k
charlie caller replied to Dean 4546's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Increasing the preload will not increase twang and recoil, the twang and recoil you are experiencing are on the whole the result of poorly finished internals, and often incorrect lubrication, de burring and polishing (like a mirror) will reduce twang and recoil, as will fitting some quality Delrin parts and the often overlooked piston seal, I am pretty confident I could have your 97 running around 11.4-11.7 ftlbs with a considerable decrease in twang and felt recoil, yes a .177 running at close to legal limit power will always be a little snappier than a .22 (unless you try the superb Walther -
A new rifle to the stables is on it`s way lads.

So would I mate, keep hankering after a .25, but I cant make my mind up between springer/pcp or sub 12 and FAC so I guess I will ponder some more lol. -

Maybe a Charlie caller one with a Vortek kit fitted would be even better? -
Proper calibre too for once ?

I've got one at last .......
charlie caller replied to Jonjon79's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
The 55 Bavaria was a break barrel, a few years back I missed a gorgeous Venom tuned one in .177, gutted, but still keep on the lookout for one, the HW 85 is modelled on the 55 apparently, the other BSF I have always fancied is the s70 Bayern underlever, that was a cracking rifle too. -

Very nice mate indeed, the more I see of these classic rifles the more I want a BSF b55 Bavaria, I really miss mine, even if it was .22 lol. -
Bargain for somebody, I have one of these, cracking rifles.

To tune, or not to tune, that is the question ?
charlie caller replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Some good points raised, and some very nice groups, that said, most rifles can be improved, pro sports are no exception, for instance, AA still for some unknown reason insist on using a steel spring guide and top hat, the spring ends are poorly finished, not as bad as some, but still poor, most have grease in abundance inside when you strip them, which is never good, by paying attention to the finer details, like mirror polishing the spring ends, fitting some delrin parts, ensuring the piston washer is correctly sized, adding some power washers (which are generally needed after fitting lighter -
At a guess I would say the red dots are more robust due to them having less internals to go wrong, a superb scope that should fit your needs is the Konus pro 3-9x32 ao I have one on my BSA ultra and it is excellent very well made, very crisp bright image with a nice thin crosshair, I think they retail around £70 it holds zero superbly (always a measure of a good scope to me) and looking at the build quality, I think it will stand up well to the relatively light recoil of a 99s.
-
I actually like the red dot scopes, they are excellent for fast target acquisition on short range targets, but little use on much past about 30 yards or so due to the dot covering a large amount of the target, cheap scope on a springer? All I can say is you may get away with it, you may not, but if its a cheapo scope and it lasts a year, so what, buy another and not cry too much, a word on the 99s if you either have it done or tune it yourself, it is very easy to turn a snappy rifle that sounds like a car crash, into a very smooth, low recoil, very accurate rifle, that wont snap reticules, a g

As Villaman says parcel force 48 no need to separate the stock, I have used a courier service in the past I will look the number out for you.
-
It really is not that hard (or expensive) to tune a 99 and make it just as good or better than an imp, but it needs to be in .22 really to get the best out of them, you could send it me and I will do it for you, or have a go yourself and myself and others on here will talk you through it and offer any help along the way.
