  1. Its a bit like the .177 vs .22 air rifle argument, except oviously in this case the flatter flying faster round carries more energy, personally I dont see the point of hv .22 the trade off of noise for a little bit more power/range is not worth it, if you want more grunt, get the excellent .22 wmr.
  2. For sale, my absolutely belting Cometa Lynx mk2, since buying the Walther lgv springer, I take it out seldom now, and have more or less decided to stick with the springer. In totally mint condition, .177 flavour, running at a super consistent 11.7 ftlbs with Bisley magnums, single and 17 shot magazines,regulated,400cc bottle with huge shot count, around 250 in .177 or possibly more, blisteringly accurate, with nice positive side lever cocking, air gauge, nice wood, fully shrouded barrel, with internal air stripper(very quiet) the shroud can also be removed, and the barrel is screwcut 1/2"unf if you
  3. Totally agree with Walshie here, the man with target only on his ticket can only buy solid, you can if you wish buy solid to shoot rabbits etc, Bisley =correct feo=wrong.
  4. Just out of curiosity, what makes you say that pal Have you tried/shot one?
  5. http://www.yorkshirefalconry.org.uk/index.html How about these guys in Wakefield mate? Slow down lad go to a meeting, explain you are a novice, I guarantee you will get all the help you need, they will suggest books dvd's and may even have some to lend you, it all sounds like a black art, but its not really, all you need is help, maybe go on a meet with them and watch and learn, do NOT be afraid to ask questions, we all had to start somewhere, attend the summer events and learn more,in the meantime, any books by Martin,Hollinshead are a great start, and have a look at the modern apprentic
  6. The fact that they had a job lot of damaged tins suggests they have bought a heap at a big discount, take them back complain, demand a refund/exchange as is your consumer right, if they are knobs about it, spill the lot on the floor, dont spend any money in there again
  7. Keep whacking the Newts mate, everyone dead means an invertebrate survives
  8. It certainly looks decent value, but sadly like many of these English named, "value" over and unders, it is simply an Italian shotgun with Cogswell and Harrison stamped on it,but if it floats your boat, why not!
  9. Back in the 80s a keeper I used to beat for was getting £15 a pelt, not bad money back then,I am sure there is still a market somewhere, but these days I have enough to do without skinning foxes, I believe fox is quite popular with Chinese people, but I would have to be very hungry indeed to tackle fox as a culinary delight
  10. Well I have the CZ 511 semi auto, it is an amazingly accurate rifle, with Eley subs, I will put it against any,and I mean any, bolt action sporting rifle, off the shelf, you will not go wrong with a 511 or indeed the new model the 512, Ruger 10/22 are a decent rifle, but the trigger is just appalling in standard form, it is worse than some kids cap guns, mega heavy with a mile of creep,of course it can be improved, and the 10/22 has a whole industry built around it, selling the most exotic tuning bits you could imagine, but if you dont want to spend fortunes, on tuning bits or custom rifles, a CZ
  11. Thinking about this further, since I have bought the Walther lgv, I find I am leaving the Cometa Lynx at home more and more, yes it is stupidly accurate, quiet, has a 17 shot mag, a huge shot count, and is considerably lighter than the Walther, but there is just something kind of clinically boring about it,something not present shooting a quality springer, so much so that I might even sell the lynx, and just stick with a springer.
  12. I would just like to see it in a decent wooden stock, I reckon if they offered it in a laminate version it would be far more attractive on the eye.
  13. Rather good advice mate there, I would not be without a decent springer, there is just something about making a good shot with a springer, that is lacking in a pcp, hard to quantify, but it is there.
  14. They are the aim points on my Nikon scope with bdc bullet drop compensator reticule, with the load I use for general purpose deer/fox I assume the 7.62 was with open sights? I saw a mate shoot a hare @ just shy of 500 yards last year with his .243 same model as mine, not a shot I would attempt, however he practises at very long range weekly, and is a very good shot, the hare rolled over without a twitch
  15. He has a shotgun, so has no excuse for damned cadish ungentlemanly behaviour dont you know
  16. If it were not for lamping,I would not consider keeping a hawk.
  17. Best thing to do mate is find your nearest falconry/hawking club and join up, sorted
  18. Walshie here are my milldots, with a hundred yard zero first milldot 246yards.2nd 362 yards,3rd 457yards,4th 582 yards, 5th 683yards, and who said I prefer .177 eh? Hope this helps Sierra 80gn blitz bc.319, velocity 3400fps. 2054ftlbs.
  19. Now dont you think that was rather unsporting just kidding mate, nice looking lab there too, can I just say ffs dont stop shooting tree rats mate, every one dead is a nest of songbird chicks that stand a far better chance of survival
  20. I like the sticks too, it comes naturally for me, deer stalking and foxing,I use the sticks probably 75% of the time, so converting that to air rifle use is easy, yes Rez back of the hand in the gap, rifle on the palm, once you master it, you wonder why you did not use them years ago.
  21. He knows enough to realise it does not belong here.
  22. Well J Darcy "my compliments" with your shooting, including the ducks and geese. I was "Shouted at" for just mentioning that i fancied "pitting my wits/ fieldcraft" after night flight duck with an air rifle and was called "UNSPORTING" ! I wonder if you get the same flack as i did eh ? " i`m waiting" ? Well if you remember I was one of the contributers, what I said was it would probably considered unsporting, by most landowners,I did however qualify what I said, by admitting to having done it myself
  23. Lads that havnt shot these modern bows dont realise the power that they drive the arrows at. a broadhead arrow cuts through lungs and heart, and light bone like a blade, with a crosshead type arrow head thats two blades cutting a 2" x through the target area. as with rifle shooting its all about shot placement. i have shot targets with a bow, but never hunted , but would like to try it if it was legal here. Yes perhaps you would, and so would I, but on a rabbit or similar sized quarry,or even deer, but not a fecking great Bison, (if we had them here) those I would shoot with a rifle.
