Watching, Waiting And Preparing.

Obviously not much good in summer, but in winter a couple of well placed decoys in those trees would draw them like a magnet I should think. -
Ruger 10-22 Zeroing Problems
charlie caller replied to Polkey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Totally agree with Deker, I dont care what you have used to do an initial sight in, unless you have a huge backstop, taking your first shot at 100 yards is not the done thing, 25,50, then a 100 is generally what works for me, and more importantly, is safe. -

Ruger 10-22 Zeroing Problems
charlie caller replied to Polkey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Deker is correct, take the piece of sh*t back, and get a refund/replacement, better still buy a cz 512 semi -
I have mixed feelings about using a lurcher as a retriever, not saying there is anything wrong with it, having worked lurchers for some years, I cant help feeling the dog should be catching the rabbit, rather than just fetching it, lamping with a good dog is one of the most exciting forms of rabbit hunting possible, nice beddy whippet by the way op.

Well I have just joined the TX club, with the lefty .177 I bought off Pianoman, given her a strip down, and a fettle, some dri-slide, and some moly paste, a slip washer in the piston and she is running at a lovely consistent 11.6 ftlbs, with AA field 4.52 took it out yesterday just for a play around and zero session, I was exploding dandylion heads every shot at 45 yards, just need to take it out hunting now, a write up will follow

Not Another 22 Hornet Thread?!
charlie caller replied to Elliott's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I did and in my experience both the Lee factory crimp die and case flare die worked wonders, 35gn vmax are good and worked best with h110 in mine, also give Sierra 40 or 45 gn varminter bullets a try too, mine was superb with the 45 gn you will love the hornet, its a cracking little rifle, enjoy. -
223 Moderator On A Hornet?
charlie caller replied to slipper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I had the PES small cf mod on my hornet, and it worked great, that was rated up to .223 and as both bullets are the same size .224 yours will work well too. -
Walshie, havent you considered the .17 rem or fireball instead
-
You will enjoy the hornet pal without doubt, but trust me on the case flare and crimp die's pal

Just put .22 hornet mate, k hornets are like hens teeth anyway, and totally not worth considering, they really were the result of a man with too much time on his hands, if you require more than a hornet, get a .222 you will be more than happy with a hornet pal, but if you dont already, learn to reload, it is almost a must with the hornet.

One is a very good standard rifle, the other an experiment in messing with something that would have been best left alone, for a start k hornet has to have cases formed for it and as far as I am aware no factory ammo exists for it, all that messing around for what? another 200fps at best.

What rifle is it mate?

Ye .25-06 vs 6.5 turnip, a bit like comparing an old Triumph Boneville with an r1 as one of my Scottish pals remarks about the .25-06 the calibre that kills Sika by just looking at them

Predator Polymag Pellets.
charlie caller replied to Jonjon79's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Oh I agree mate, its half the fun, plinking and testing different stuff, never tried the hunter extreme in .22 but in my old 77 they were bloody lethal out to 40 yards, shame none of my past few rifles liked em, but going to give them a go in my newly aquired .177 tx 200 hc, see if it will shoot them. -
I went from .243 to the 6.5x55 in my opinion the best move I've made for a long while in shooting.Really? I cant imagine why, the .243 is faster, flatter shooting, and in my opinion a better one shot killer than the Swede will ever be, yes you can shoot heavier bullets in the Swede, but and it is a big but, at the expense of point and shoot capability, true at a hundred yards or so it matters not, but start pushing 250-300 yards and the Swede is like a .22 air rifle compared to a .177, fine if you know your holdover points, but for me the .243 wins hands down everytime.how many deer do you sho

All very interesting indeed, they would be fine for me at the 40yard mark, as I have a self imposed 40 yard limit with an air rifle, I did try them a while ago in a .22 850 air magnum I converted to hpa, they were accurate in that and I shot a couple of squirrels, that just dropped stone dead from the tree tops, so they certainly work, I would encourage you to try some H&N Baraccuda hunter extreme, the ones with the wierd Phillips screw cross in the front, they were incredibly accurate, and deadly in my old .177 hw 77, there is a vid on youtube with a guy trying them against rabbit skulls, -

Little Hunters First Go Of His New Hw100, 177
charlie caller replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Mac bring the lad down at some point, he can have a go at the foxes with the big rifle, he will make mincemeat of them at 300 yards -
