  1. Its a .224 bullet yes of course it will shoot it, however far more suited to a hornet, it will probably shoot like a pile of crap, but hey nothing ventured an all that.
  2. Sorry but anyone who thinks an air rifle is a better pigeon shooting tool than a shotgun, should perhaps take a look at some of the bags the professional pigeon shooters achieve down Hampshire way, 500 bird days not being out of the ordinary, that I would suggest is almost impossible with an air rifle, and nowhere near as skillful
  3. Should have just bought an lgv/lgu then you would not have needed to employ a tuning company to do .....well whatever
  4. Right chaps I am reducing these to £90 posted for a quick sale, if nobody grabs these at mega bargain price I will keep em for a spare pair, these are superb, I am almost giving them away at this price.
  5. Good advice Mark, I would just like to add a small caveat, a lot of farmers, especially round my way, still regard air rifles as toys (possibly due to their own "toys" they played about with as lads) a better approach, in my opinion, is just to ask to shoot the pigeons, not mentioning the type of gun to be used, once you have got permission, use what you like, not wishing to start a shotgun vs air rifle argument, as I use and enjoy both, but if a large bag of pigeon was my goal, it would be the 12 bore everytime, with obvious very limited and debatable exceptions, I have yet to see someone shoo
  6. A rope would have been a better option for the cu*t.
  7. Looking on Gamebore's own site I cannot find a country classic listed by them, so they may be old stock he wanted to give away, let us assume your gun is 2/34" chambers, this will be stated on the barrels, a decent 32 gram load of number six or five's will do everything you require, for your intended quarry, pick a good brand like Gamebore,Hull, Eley etc, and you wont go far wrong mate, always check with a qualified gunsmith, if in any doubt, but I would bet on it having 2/34 " chambers mate.
  8. .22 hornet factory ammo is quite dear, and there is really only one that packs a punch the Hornady 35 grain vmax, the rest is rather pedestrian, to say the least, re-loading a hornet is cheap as chips, I used to do mine for around 20p a bang.
  9. I was expecting you bemoaning the fact that a landowner has had all the rabbits gassed, do like that lever action, what calibre mate?
  10. Ok I hate the .17 hmr but I have to say its cheap as chips to run, and an effective round out to 150 yards or so, and it will do on foxes at close IE 70-100 yards range with a well placed shot, now the .17 rem.... a necked down .223 rem case capable out to 300yards plus, factory ammo is not that easy to get hold of, and is expensive, that said, if you re-load for it, it would be comparatively cheap to run, and oooooooh so much more fun than an hmr, the .17 hornet falls somewhere in between and is probably a good compromise, so might well be worth a look mate.
  11. Its 12g ok thats a start, are you shooting clays.......vermin......pigeons......duck later in the year.......foxes? what are the specs on the cartriges he chucked in? if they are a 24 gram clay load of no7/12 s no they wont have much whack, it is very hard for us to advise on a suitable load, is your gun 2/34 or 3 inch chambers, steel proof etc etc, give us some more info and we might stand a chance mate.
  12. Not me mate, I only had the .22 I would like to see one in operation, and all the reports I have heard have been positive, but if I bought one, I dont know if I could rid myself of the niggling doubt about if I should have got the .17 rem
  13. Dont honestly know mate, I have had them for around ten years, only selling as I have another pair so dont need two, my best guess would be late 80s early 90s absolutely cracking optics though, my mate has a pair of new Zeiss and I really struggle to see any difference.
  14. A pair of superb 10x40 German Optolyth binos, rubber armoured, in superb condition, with carry strap and case, the lens quality is superb on these, and are perfect for stalking or bird watching, excellent in low light, in superb condition, you will not be disappointed with these, absolute bargain at £120.00 posted, or pick up S yorks, money back if not delighted, cheers.
  15. You may very well have a point there Francie, its not going to end well if they screw us over, I can see the poll tax riots being like the fecking Trumpton riots by comparison.
  16. Yes I agree mate, and the Lee case flare die puts a tiny gentle flare on the case neck, which does a superb job of seating the bullet,in fact it almost feels too slack upon seating, but it is not, but mate seriously for the sake of a tenner or so, get the factory crimp die, your groupings are good, as I said, but the crimp die will probably tighten them further, will almost certainly eliminate the odd flyer, and will DEFINITELY, eliminate the occasional and very frustrating bullet being pushed down in the case neck, something that the hornet with its thin brass and long case neck does suffer fro
  17. Thats a good load in your hornet mate, and lil gun produces quite low pressures at a good velocity, my hornet performed very well with H110 and the same bullet, as always when dispensing hornet loading advice, the Lee case flare and factory crimp die, are almost essential in my humble opinion, assuming you dont use them already of course, as your grouping is very nice.
  18. I agree with Nicepix mate, at this time of year I dont think think they will be too effective, although there is no harm installing them, as we all know Autumn and winter creep up rather quickly, but during the cold months, I would think you will have a birthday mate.
  19. Oh naturally I saved it for the next dish seriously give it a whirl its one of my fav ways to eat rabbit, works well with squirrel or Pheasant too
  20. Its not really my bag, although I would go and observe, so I could speak from experience so to speak, however it is their tradition and deeply embedded in their culture, so just because some do gooding tw*t objects does not mean they should stop it, as if they would anyway
  21. I see that you have .17 and .22 on open ticket, so this will strengthen your case, although it is doubtful (not impossible) that you will be granted open conditions on your first CF grant, irrespective of calibre, it would help your case if you could provide a letter from an experienced CF user whom you shoot with, who would be prepared to state that you are safe in his/her opinion, have a good knowledge of backstops, and all crucial safety issues, good luck.
  22. You will if you try this.............. parboil the rabbit for 25 mins or so strip the meat off the bones, then add two tablespoons of olive oil and 3 chopped garlic cloves and brown the rabbit meat in the oil, when browned, add two tablespoons of tomato puree and fry some more coating the rabbit in the sauce, then add half a pint of dry cider (supposed to be Normandy cider, hence the name of the dish) and let the whole thing simmer for ten minutes, serve with some Parsley on top, it goes well with most things, but is tremendous with bubble and squeak, good with rice, or just some crusty bread a
