  1. What does he suggest? .30-378 Wheatherby magnum perhaps, what he likes or does not like is totally irrelevant, it is what you have good reason to possess that counts, I can kind of see what he is thinking, due to .22lr being very prone to ricochet on hard ground etc, where your .17 hmr for instance is unlikely to do the same as the bullet is very frangible and is inclined to burst into a million pieces when hitting a hard surface, however, provided your .22lr shots are taken (as should all rifle shots) with a good backstop .then the round is perfectly safe (well not for the rabbit lol) provide
  2. I know mate it can be a terrible problem, I blame it on the rich grass we have around these parts
  3. Quite right Alsone, as I have said before, they do make perhaps the finest cameras in the world, I have a pair of pretty much bottom of the range Nikon binos, and they are fantastic,I have looked through binos costing three times more, that are not as good,(to my eyes anyway) its Nikon for me everytime, but as with everything, there will always be folk with a less than good experience, for whatever reason.
  4. Nothing wrong with the hmr. It's a good little round and has its uses. Particularly on land I shoot. IMO.Again as for the advice your asking. Donny has nailed it again with his last comment. Mine run between 28 and 32 in .22 and fill the bag just fine without having to charge every 2 mins. If you shoot from a motor or don't require the high shot count then go with whatever floats your boat and is comfy to shoot. Oh they certainly work, until a rabbit farts and blows that horrid little bullet all over the shop, I would have a .22WMR anyday over an hmr, and you can have it semi auto too
  5. Selling this for a pal that does not have internet, nice tidy pistol 8 shot semi auto, works just as it should, surprisingly accurate I thought, first £75 gets it, prefer pick up so you can try it, or can post at cost, pm for details, cheers.
  6. V man, just ring your local firearms dept up and give them the names of your land, ask them what calibre the land is passed up to, a .22lr is a great all round tool, I hate .17 hmr so less said about them the better lol, a .22 hornet or .222 is a much better option unless you just intend to shoot rabbits, BUT YOU WONT, if you want any advice on applying etc pm me I will help all I can.
  7. And me mate, always will, not saying I would never have another .22 but yep sub 12 its .177 everytime.
  8. Great stuff mate, I say this not just because I prefer .177, but I genuinely did always think the FWB 124 shot the best out of the calibres, rather like the Walther LGV in .177 , I had a .22 FWB for a while years ago, and for some strange reason I could not get on with it.
  9. Meopta yes have to agree superb scopes for the money indeed.
  10. The fact that you previously showed responsibility to surrender your guns, you have quite clearly demonstrated you have turned your life around, and are helping others has got to go in your favour, 100% go for it mate, and best of luck.
  11. Cometa Lynx in .25 45-50ftlbs cracking rifle, if I did not have a .22rf I would have one.
  12. Replacement barrel perhaps if the rest of the rifle is sound?
  13. .243 win grain Sierra Blitz varmint bullet @ 3,400 fps oh and a Brocock s6 concept in, of course .177 calibre, using H&N Baraccuda hunter extreme 9.57 grain, deadly.
  14. As you say if he is head shooting squirrels at 30 yards prob not a lot wrong with the pellets he is using, but its always worth a bit of pellet testing.
  15. He wanted a proper performance calibre rifle to go along side the .22 wall exhibit he has
  16. Try some H&N field target trophy mate, usually a top pellet in Germanic rifles, and also some H&N Baraccuda hunter extreme, (get a sample pack off the bay) my old HW77 loved em, they are a deadly pellet in .177 through the right rifle.
  17. Generally correct. But if a FEO has deemed a piece of land unsuitable for anything above .17 hmr and you knowingly used a larger caliber, even with an open ticket, you are treading on thin ice. Rubbish, if you have an open ticket, it does not matter one jot, what its been passed for, or not, the onus is on you the shooter to deem the shot safe, to the op, if he says its not suitable for .223 then you wont get .222 they are virtually the same round, my advice is to check your other ground or get some more passed for the .22 centre fire,or book some stalking on say Muntjac, apply for a .22
  18. I had a couple of mercury's and liked them (still do) never progressed to the S model as the HW80 came out and that was it, bought a .177 and a top of the range Kassnar scope, and oh my days, I was dropping stuff out at ranges that mates with their airsporters Vulcans etc could not believe, I bought the B55 for a song from a long gone rfd that did not really know what it was, well it turned out to be a real wolf in sheeps clothing, it was tuned with some super export spring in it, never did know what power it was kicking out, but lets just say it was rather flat shooting for a .22, anyway havi
  19. No its a B55 mate, had a tuned one in the 80s and it was brilliant, should never have sold it, now if I could find a Venom .177 version
  20. I do wish you would stop with all this vintage nonsense, you are forcing me to search even harder for a BSF b55 bavaria now, aaaaaaaaaagh.
  21. Yep. Currently have a mk4 Mondeo, wouldn't want to own or even just drive my dad's last car (a merc) on a daily basis because it's a heap of crap that breaks down all the time, costs a fortune to fix and wasn't even as comfy to sit in or well equipped for the extra £8k purchase price! Genuinely, I dont see how you say the 2 aren't comparable. The monarch I had might have just been duff, or not suited to my eye but it is genuinely one of the worst scopes I have ever owned when you look at it on a bang for buck basis. I would much, much rather have my old phillilino Simmons aetec bac
  22. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikon-Scope-M3-2-5-10x50-Duplex-/152244520566?hash=item23727b0676:g:yZIAAOSwU9xUOnvM Something like this mate.
  23. Well I have a prostaff on my .243 my pal has a S&B on his rifle, comparing the two in low light etc, it is difficult to tell them apart, it makes me laugh comparing a hawke scope to a Nikon is like comparing a ford Mondeo with a Merc,I am not saying the Hawke scopes are bad, I have had one or two nice ones, but they are not in the same league.
