Nimrod Attacks Fox Lampers
charlie caller replied to jjferret's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well yes it will, feeding OFF vermin, are you perhaps reffering to starving people eating rats or some other type of Vermin?how very confusing, please explain how I have contradicted myself,I think you have made yourself look rather silly there old boy,you know very well what I was talking about, the idiots who leave EDIBLE game to rot, instead of taking it home,of which according to certain people there must be loads in every village, and the countryside (obviously post ban)must be reeling at the reek of rotting cadavers, what a load of fu--ing nonsense. -
Garbage mate dont do it,YOU WILL REGRET IT.

You've never heard of people shooting and leaving game for vermin too eat? Are you new to the countryside?Erm let me think,I was ferreting at 10,and air rifle shooting at 12,first shotgun at 14,and over the years I have participated in most country sports, and IM 46 now so perhaps not new eh?And of courseI have heard of Langholm project, what I was trying to get over is the fact that I was brought up to take and eat or give away, edible game,so when people start talking utter Bo--ocks,saying the majority of shooters leave their shot game out for vermin to eat, they are either bitter and twisted d -

Well all I can say is this leaving things to feed vermin, with the exeption of baiting foxes is an entirely new concept to me and one that disgusts me,I can assure anyone, that leaving shot game,(with the exeption of a myxied rabbit perhaps) is not a practice carried out by myself or anyone I shoot with,I have utmost sympathy with anyone who has had there land denuded of game by anyone, with a rifle or otherwise, but please dont tar us all with the same brush, after all what would be left to fly the hawk on if we all did that -

What are you saying the antis will use any opportunity at their disposal, only in certain circumstances? or are you questioning the wisdom of the divided we stand adage? please be specific, and it would perhaps be helpful if you provided a brief example, thanks. -
Nice one bud,I too am looking forward to it as I will have a new bird, just hope the bunnies breed well this summer lol.

I totally agree with all comments regarding leaving shot game, nothing sickens me more people that do it are a disgrace to the sport,on the subject of the Warrener,I think you will find if you watch his various productions, that the vast majority of the foxes he is shooting ARE problem foxes, and the man has been called out by a farmer/landowner to remove a chicken, lamb, piglet killing fox,and it is my understanding that he makes at least part of his living from his pest control activities,I will also agree that there are some areas that perhaps do not need a hefty amount of fox control, but equal -

What so did nobody shoot foxes then before the hunting ban? and all the beleugered dog men have now all gone out and got a rifle, crap just as many got shot pre ban as now,the only difference is that magazines like sporting rifle ect have concentrated several pages on foxing, giving the impression that lamping foxes is a new branch of our sport,WELL IT ISNT. -
Thats a relief mate, thought for one minute you were going to join the ranks of the turkish scrap owners society, best of luck selling the auto dude.

I totally agree with the above comments, the holier than thou attitude of some dog men seems farcical to me,the truth is I have probably forgotten more about training a lurcher to a very high standard than a lot of them,I love the sport, and would have another tomorrow if my circumstances were different, how long must people keep saying it, if you cast a fly,run a dog,fly a hawk, shoot a shotgun, hunt with hounds,I dont give a fu-k if we dont all stand as a united front WE WILL LOSE THE THINGS WE HOLD MOST DEAR,please try and get that through your thick skulls, attacking other fieldsports is just wh -

Obviously,my and others comments regarding standing up for each other are sadly lost on you, there are good and bad apples in every barrel, I love to see a good dog run as well as the next man,and I also like my rifle, and pretty damn good I am with it too, divide and conquer is a strategy as old as the hills, but fools who attack another field sport, when we should be a strong unified voice, will spell the death nell for all our beloved sports and way of life, shame on you -

He has done it before in shooting times,I think (and I do have some sympathy) that it is largely sour grapes over the hunting act, my problem with his comments are the fact that the guy is a deerstalker,so does he leave his quarry to limp off after being shot? I can say with some certainty, having shot a fair few deer and foxes, that foxes are the easiest to kill outright,(not that I have had the misfortune to have a deer run) so I think the mans comments are based on sour grapes not on facts, and I dont see the merit in attacking another mans sport. -

.22 Wmr With 30Grain Hornady V-Max Rounds.
charlie caller replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I can see where you are coming from, but lets look at economics as a point in case,a .22 hornet is roughly 3 times the power of your hmr,wmr ect, now if you reload(and this is the way to get the best from a hornet) the hornet will propel 35gn vmax @ over 3000fps with a paltry 12.3 gns of powder,so allowing the shooter to humanely kill foxes @ ranges out to 150-200 yds,it will also deal with any other quarry, Ie bunnies, crows ect @ long range, way past rimmy range, with a good sound mod it is relatively quiet for a cf,so from an economics point of veiw (if you reload) a hornet is a sensible step -
.22 Wmr With 30Grain Hornady V-Max Rounds.
charlie caller replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Up to a point it does not shoot quite as flat, however,it does retain its energy better, and like any calibre you must practice and find its strong points,as for accuracy the one my freind has,cz semi auto,is a very accurate rifle, certainly good enough to head shoot bunnies at 100 yds plus, and of course having a semi auto is very useful if you are going to shoot the odd fox with it,however all that said I would always try to steer people towards a .22 hornet if the land is cleared,it is so much better than any rimfire, and you can really make it shine by reloading for it. -
.22 Wmr With 30Grain Hornady V-Max Rounds.
charlie caller replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
never owned one,but have used one with vmax,I was most impressed, and have also seen foxes dropped at well over a hundred yds with one,in fact, I keep toying with the idea of getting one in semi auto. -
.22 Wmr With 30Grain Hornady V-Max Rounds.
charlie caller replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well it has more power than hmr, carries its downrange energy better, better in the wind, and you can have a semi auto, no brainer if you ask me,but then I am biased as I hate hmrs, lol. -
Well another option is what I have always done, both freeloft and bowed,I have taken Martin Hollinshead advice and not let the bird get TOO fat during the moult, still bowed her out in the day and fed her on the lure,my last female moulted out perfectly, over two moults using this method, and come the start of the season, all that was required was a weight drop,no manning to do,straight into hunting, that is what I shall be doing with my next bird, just another method, and it certainly works for me
