One farm will do mate,if its passed, but unless its got lots of bunnies you will get fed up pretty quick just on one piece of land, get the fac and start to try and find some more land,it will need to be passed also, as your ticket will be closed at first,ie you can only use your rifle on land passed safe by the chief officer of the area where the land is situated, put plenty of ammo through it,get some more land and eventually you will get your ticket opened up,and be able to use it anywhere you have permission,(it is then up to you to decide if its safe or not)good luck mate if you got any quer

Just Had My Fac Interview
charlie caller replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sounds reasonable, but I would have let you have the hmr,the rimmy will teach you plenty mate,as you say your foot is on the ladder, put loads of ammo through it,get some more land maybe,he is being quite fair I think saying apply again in 6-9 months, when you have built up some experience -

charlie caller replied to Stuart1985's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thats great in theory ss,I might be wrong as he is in Scotland, and I am pretty sure they dont pass the land up there, but I still reckon he will need to provide land to shoot on before they grant it,keep us posted please op, as this will be interesting to see the outcome, best of luck pal. -

Firearms Question Please Help Me
charlie caller replied to Stuart1985's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I doubt the police will grant an fac on the grounds that you are using it for work only,I assume this is your first application,so I would be very suprised if they did not require you to have access to some land that is passed for at least .22rf,and again if this is your first fac and you have no firearms experience dont be suprised if they put a mentor condition on you,and as for an open ticket on first application, good luck sorry to sound negative, but I would rather tell you straight so you know what you are in for,but I do wish you well with your fac -

Rifle For Fox And Roe Recommendations Please ???
charlie caller replied to dax17's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Ah they would have been the old style Hornady varmint bullets, they still list them, in fact I am pretty sure thats what we loaded for my mates .223 the other week,50 gns im sure.Out of my .243 I love the 80gn blitz(not blitzking which I think are much more explosive) I now use em on virtually everything, foxes, roe muntjac, cwd, and they perform brilliantly, drop charlie on the spot like a light switch going out,and exit nicely on deer without too much meat damage,I was using Sierra 60gn hp which were excellent on foxes, but a bit too explosive on deer. -
Ahh the esteemed mr catcat, how the devil are you? yes we will be happy to welcome you to one of our muddy holes next season mate, how is our mutual freind doing I havent seen much of him lately, still missing his fair share I expect?

Rifle For Fox And Roe Recommendations Please ???
charlie caller replied to dax17's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Well a quick look at Hornadys website confirms what I said, the 95 gn sst is a bullet designed for deer,a polymer tip for rapid expansion,a HEAVY duty jacket, and an INTERLOCK core,I think roe-buck the bullets you were reffering to are most likely vmax which are varmint bullets mate and will explode on impact. -
Rifle For Fox And Roe Recommendations Please ???
charlie caller replied to dax17's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Not sure about the Hornady spire point roe-buck, but I can tell you the 95gn sst super shock tip, work brilliantly and I have always had a nice entry wound, perhaps the one you mention is a varmint round, where yes you will get blow up on entry if you hit bone, but the sst is a deer bullet, and it does very well on charlie too. -

Options For .22Lr On Applying For Fac
charlie caller replied to staffyspen's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The cz range will suit you down to the ground mate, very good rifles,or you can always buy a rifle with a long barrel and get it chopped to 14" the old bruno rifles are excellent also,if you find a cheap one get it cut and screw cut and a recrown, cost about 60- quid, or if you fancy a semi auto ruger 10/22 is a good choice, fitan aftermarket stock and have the trigger re worked and they are very good rifles. -
Absolutely,it is a cracking round, and if you reload it, one of the most accurate .22cf rounds out there, get a nice cz heavy barrel or similar and you will have a top class vermin round, that is also very capable on roe(Scotland)and Muntjac and cwd in England and wales, you will not be dissapointed with a .222 mate.
-
A .17 rem is an awesome little varmint round capable of 300 yards plus on foxes ect,but as said it might be hard to get ammo,if its a first time cf I would go .222 it is a fantastic calibre from crows and foxes to small deer, very easy to reload, and one of the most accurate .22cf rounds out there, and will kill foxes cleanly at 250 yards + and becouse it is not quite as popular as the .223 these days, some good bargains can be had,if I was buying a .22 cf the .222 would be my first choice everytime.
-
As with all these collectables pal they are worth what a man is prepared to pay for em,they dont look to have had much use, nice things.
-
Yep I can see that mate, your .223 will do everything a hornet will and more, the only thing is the hornet will be half as heavy on the powder,so I guess its down to how many bunnies/crows you intend to shoot, and of course some people like to be different (thank goodness).

Rifle For Fox And Roe Recommendations Please ???
charlie caller replied to dax17's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Yep I can see your point about different bullet weights, hence my reccomended 80gn blitz Sierra,I would not hesitate in using this loading on anything including fallow, the only time I would go up to a heavier bullet is on reds, then it would be England and wales 95gn sst,Scotland 100gn prohunter/gameking, in handloads or factory the 105 grain rws gecko,to be honest the man that had a .243 and wanted to stick to just one factory round for everything in England and Wales, could do far worse than stick to the superb Hornady 95gnsst,they put everything on the deck from foxes to red stags. -
No, the reason being, the .223 is deer legal, the hornet is not,(small deer obviously) the are a pretty similar round but the .223 has more power, hence more range, depends how much economy plays a part in your shooting,if it does and you are not bothered about deer then a hornet is a good choice.
