What Powder Increments, When Load Develpment?
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
All rifles are different mate, generally but not always the better the bedding/stock fit is you will probably find the better loads up near maximum, however most rifles usually get best accuracy near the centre of the range, you will have to suck it and see mate, just take your time, nice steady five shot groups, and you will find the best one, but as I said before STOP,you can always play with seating depth if you must -
What Powder Increments, When Load Develpment?
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Yes I usually start midway ish then go up in .5 increments, so start at 23 then slowly work up to max charge, fire a five shot group with each loading and when you find the magic number STOP,do not chase it or you will waste powder and stress yourself, good luck have fun. -
Info Needed On Reloading The .22 Hornet,

If it has not been mistreated the bore will be fine, check the crown, and shine a light up and have a check for pitting,my advice if its in reasonable nick buy it,oh and if its screw cut, screw a moderator on and look up the bore and check for proper alignment, good luck mate, he who hesitates is lost -
Yes that is exactly what I was told, so as far as I am concerned there are no grey areas, stick to what it says on your allowance and you wont fall foul of the law

I might be wrong here, but I think the synthetic stock will be very hard to bed, it would probably pay you to get a wooden stock and bed that, Boyds do excellent laminate stocks for a very reasonable price, the one I put on my weatherby turned an already accurate rifle into a real tackdriver.

I agree vmax are good but bloody expensive, on the subject of Sierra blitz (not blitzking) I find the 80gn brilliant in my .243, 3400fps under 45gns of h414, stop foxes like an express train hitting them, and drop roe and Chinese water deer on the spot, without too much meat damage which is interesting as they are meant to be a varmint bullet, but I reckon the jacket must be a lot stronger than the blitzking, deffo worth a try for anyone wanting to load for the .243 and a sensible price too. -
New .17 Wsm (Winchester Super Magnum) Videos
charlie caller replied to Alsone's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I can see what you are saying on paper with pedestrian factory ammo, but the twenty grain bullet at 3000 fps is producing 399 ftlbs the hornet 35gn vmax at 3100 is producing 747 ftlbs so almost twice as much anyone who has a hornet should reload to get the best out of it not use mega expensive factory crap ammo, about 15pence per bang is achievable with the hornet, and of course you cant reload the nail gun, so lets face it the hornet pisses all over it. -
Advertising again due to a pratt who said he was comming for it and never turned up, partner 500 very good engine, new chain last year, I have a new one so sick of the sight of it in the shed, will make agood saw with abit of tlc, prob do with a new tensioner, anyway its 45 quid to the first one to wave the cash under my nose, pick up from Sheffield.

Yes should have said 3000, but you get the idea Im sure, it is not a centerfire and never will be and no matter how much they push the rimfire envelope they will never achieve the same performance. If you must have a super fast fox slaying .17 buy a .17 rem and have done with it -
Info Needed On Reloading The .22 Hornet,
charlie caller replied to jam1e's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I found that a Sierra 45 gn varminter under 10.3 grains of h110 with a rem small benchrest primer seated at the specified col in the loading data, flared case neck and crimped with a moderate pressure, gave around a .3" group, I could acheive a similar group with 35 grain vmax under 12.3 grains of h110, I never got round to trying lil'gun but if you can get hold of some try it you really cant get enough of this powder in a hornet case to be dangerous (dont try obviously) the pressures are very low with lil'gun, h110 is quite a hot load powder, -

No it does not have .22 hornet performance, 20 grain bullet at 3000 fps compared to a 35 grain bullet at 3100fps you do the maths -

Do I Really Need A Reloading Manual¿¿¿¿¿
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
It depends on how far you want to go, it is perfectly possible to reload safe accurate ammo without a manual, however if you would like to push the envelope, and understand wildcatting, neck turning, case forming, bumping the shoulders back, annealing, and a host of other in depth stuff then a manual such as the mentioned Lee manual is a very good use of your money. -

Hodgdon reloading data centre has lots of hornet loads, I found (as I suspect yours will) that the bullet seating depth made little impact on accuracy, so I just stuck with the stated col in the data, far more important was flaring the case neck and crimping these had a profound effect on it, making the difference between an inch group, or a touching cloverleaf group @ 100 yards. -
Brilliant that wont confuse anyone then will it I agree Rimmer what a crap system, well I am still going to phone basc for their version/interpretation, and I will be sticking to what it says my allowance is on my ticket, and my strong advice to anyone is to do the same.
-
I think the crux of the matter is this then, in the eyes of the law are expanding bullets given the same status as made up/complete live rounds? I say they are and so does Danw, others dont seem to think so, this is not me or anyone else being pedantic or spoiling for an argument, this point needs clarification, so I think the only way to do this is ask BASC I wont get chance to do it tommorow, but if anyone else cares to call them fine, if not I will do it monday.
-
Yes they do, i tend to get them for the sportsmans gun centre and they always put them on if they are expanding but not the non expanding. to be honest though i never have more than a few boxes so i never get up to my limit which i think is 600. Ok so this poses a question then, if your limit is 600 lets say for the sake of argument (and you could ask the rfd) you wanted to purchase 800 would the gunshop sell you that amount? If so then you would be in breach of your FAC conditions would you not? and they would be offending also by selling you over what your ticket states you can have, so
-
Best of luck then mate, I am curious, in your area does the rfd who sells you your bullets (for reloading obviously) put them down on your ticket or not?
-
More like one of their own burnt it down to claim on the insurance, and blame it on the EDL,

For sale partner 500 chainsaw, excellent engine, had a new chain a year ago, needs a bit of tlc or use as spares, have a new one so sat doing nothing, pick up from Sheffield or courier at cost,50 quid buys it, pm me for details/number/chat ect. Right whoever wants it can pick it up for 40 quid, I am sick of the sight of the bloody thing in the shed, will make a good saw with a bit of tlc, and not much spending on it,buy it or its going on ebay.
-
Yes mate I realise you have, we are both singing from the same sheet, agreed it is not always easy to convey exactly what you mean on a post, these grey areas are a pain for everyone, but to me its black and white, expanding bullets are the same as loaded rounds and that's it.
-
Hmmmmm well I will be sticking to what I was told mate,I think anyone who does otherwise is on the preverbial sticky wicket.

Do I Really Need A Reloading Manual¿¿¿¿¿
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Correct me if I am wrong but I was not aware that either MEC or clay and game supplied components or data relating to reloading metallic centre fire rifle ammunition ??? -
Yes danw, I agree expanding missiles are classed in the same way as loaded rounds, and you must not exeed your allowance,I know some people are challenging this but I would not like to be taken to task over it, at the risk of repeating myself I was told that expanding bullets are classed as loaded rounds and therefore you must hold only the quantity stated on your fac, this makes sense, if you go into an rfd and want to purchase lets say 400 expanding bullets, but your fac says you may only purchase 200 you will not be sold 400 by the shop, can you see what we are saying?
