So what are you shooting now/in the past mate if you have lots of experience ? Or is it military based? get your finger out and get door knocking, if you are offering cash should not be too hard to find somewhere.

Nice one bud, you thinking of getting a bird this season or just going out with your mentor?

Is Anyone Shooting Steel Shot Here?
charlie caller replied to bbjaccov5's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not with steel shot you don't,(assuming you ever use steel) it all amounts to the death by a thousand cuts strategy, cant ban shooting outright so lets do it bit by bit to erode it until nothing is left, I would urge everyone to resist a lead ban in the strongest way possible, wherever you can. -
Fish DEEP until the water cools down in the evening, then enjoy the evening rise

Is Anyone Shooting Steel Shot Here?
charlie caller replied to bbjaccov5's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well the environment has managed ok for the last several hundred years with lead shot raining down on it, and its not like lead does not occur naturally is it? all the million upon millions of tons of crap dumped into the sea, including radio active waste, millions of tons of ordinance after two world wars, and they worry about a ounce of lead or two, crazy. -
It is not worth doing mate unless you put it on clean metal,a much better alternative is to spray your vehicle with some Fresh oil underneath so it soaks into all the seams and into the chassis.

Is Anyone Shooting Steel Shot Here?

Steel shot is good if it is pushed FAST, I would like to try some of the Eley lightning steel 1600 fps or if we could only get it here the Remington wildfowling cartridges @ 1700 fps, the other alternative is to load your own which I will be experimenting with this wildfowling season, heavy shot is very good indeed and I have shot some high duck and geese with it as I have tungsten matrix and I cant tell the difference between lead with those two, tight chokes are a big mistake with large shot/heavy load shells they will ruin the pattern, I use imp cylinder for everything and as I have said -
He wants to use heavy shot, not lead or steel yes mate heavy shot will be fine, as will tungsten matrix.

If you are shooting rats mate you will require a red filter or a red led torch, as once you have shot a couple they will disappear as soon as you switch on your white beam, have a look on lightmalls website I have one of their red/green led torches $28.50 fantastic bit of kit, have shot foxes over 150 yards with it,and you can get red, green, blue, clear led drivers for it so keep switching colour to confuse the little darlings.

Wanted Rabbit Shooting Permission Wanted
charlie caller replied to digging-deep's topic in Rabbit Shooting
That's what I meant mate, Donny is very hard now,but if the farmers let a trusted person or two have the shooting it would keep a lot of the scrotes away, good luck pal, but my advice would be try a little further afield. -
Wanted Rabbit Shooting Permission Wanted
charlie caller replied to digging-deep's topic in Rabbit Shooting
Good luck mate, you will need it the only way is to get off your behind, and get door knocking. -
Agreed with the above, the only thing I would add if you fancy one for the table, skin it chop into sections and fry in dripping, or with a bit of smokey bacon

My Anschutz has the 14" barrel perfect in my opinion, so much more easy to shoot from a vehicle ect.

Quietest .243 Round Around
charlie caller replied to Fidgety's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Yes I have a t12 on my .243 and a very good moderator they are, mine stabilises 100grain bullets no problem, I cant really tell the difference between a 3800 fps 60 grain hp- a 100 grain Winchester in terms of noise through the moderator, subsonic loads are the only way to go if you want to quieten a cf significantly. -
Wanted Permission For Rabbit Hunting (Air Rifle) In South Walea
charlie caller replied to Dan mac's topic in Rabbit Shooting
Here is some advice Dan, get in your car take your insurance with you, and get knocking on some farm doors that is what we all have to do mate, this is a hunting site, not FARMERS WEEKLY, amazes me when people come on here, after a couple of posts asking/expecting people to give up their hard earned permission to a complete stranger, I wish you luck mate but really did you expect somebody to come on and say yes mate you can shoot my land ? -
not if you have ground passed up for .22 hornet or bigger, you have good reason ie foxes and away you go.
-
Well I hardly think the hornet is an obscure calibre, it has been around since the late 1800s in one guise or another, and thousands are in use all over the world, the problem (if you care to call it that)with the hornet is that factory ammo (generally) is rubbish and tends to be on the very low pressure/velocity side to accommodate some very OLD rifles in the chambering,so to get the best out of a modern hornet you must reload it,the vmax I quoted is a pretty good round and is certainly the best factory offering out there, however if you reload things get very interesting I have a load that wil
-
The data provided for the .17 nail gun compares a very very , pedestrian .22 hornet factory round to the .17 however if you compare decent factory ammo even , like hornady 35 grain vmax 35grain bullet @ 3100fps = 747 ftlbs compared to .17grain bullet @3000fps =339ftlbs and reloading can push it along even faster with a heavier bullet, so we can see that this super new rimfire is terribly exiting, but still only producing less than half of a decent .22 hornet load anyone who thinks that their rimfire whatever is going to perform like a centerfire, is simply deluding themselves, if you wa

Male redtail this season, on rabbits and squirrels mainly, but I expect the odd pheasant to feature on the menu now and again.

Bit Of Help Needed?????
charlie caller replied to meldino2005's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
absolutely no need to put bolt action/semi auto, just put .22lr and sound moderator, only when you have purchased the rifle do you need to state the action type, and if you don't have any firearms that require a firearm cert at the time of applying or renewing put none. -
Buy a .22 hornet mate, far superior performance to any rimfire, and if you reload it very cheap to run.

Quietest .243 Round Around
charlie caller replied to Fidgety's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Its the one with no powder or bullet or primer in pal, no such thing mate, any supersonic round is going to be loud, the only way to quieten it would be to load some subsonic rounds up for it,as they are not available off the shelf, the speed of sound is around 1100 fps so get your chronograph out and get testing, good luck.
